Judging by that cover I think it's all but confirmed that this is ultimately going to be some kind of painting game.  So now that two questions are 1.  Exactly what will you be painting and 2. what system is it going to?

Okami like painting I guess. I would like something more freeform and intricate then okami though. I would want to be able to experiment, like paint a ladder or paint a rope to tripwire up an incline.

Or paint a boat and paint the wind direction to blow the sails, or paint a motor.

With the new motion controllers I bet it will go multiplatform, eventually. It depends on the visuals, whether its good enough or stylised to cut it on another platform.

For the record I believe Red Steel 2 being cel-shaded makes it a dead cert to be ported. The only question is when Ubisoft announce it. PS3-mote likely.

I think it's too early to say it'll happen.  Not until all the new controllers are priced.  Both Natal and the PS3 Wand/Eye combo don't sound like they'll be too cheap.  It's not like Motion Plus that was only $20 and was bundled with the sequel to one of the most popular games of this generation.

Plus if the game was designed from the ground up for the Wii, and it's not 2-D, there's going to have to be a lot of work put in to scale the graphics up to acceptible HD console standards.

And while no one else is saying this, I suspect that sometime in the near future (if they haven't already done so) Nintendo and Disney Interactive are going to get into bed together for some big exclusive games.  Just seems like a natural fit.

I think we already know.

Epic Mickey details emerge

Paint your way through levels

From 30th July

Following a batch of concept art said to be from an unannounced Disney game dubbed 'Epic Mickey' comes a few details from a source who wishes to remain anonymous. When don't they?

Details were originally spotted by
Superannuation who found out that a development and concept artist listed the project - "Epic Mickey" (Wii Video Game) - on his online CV and pointed to some concept art (which you can find on this page) said to be from the game.

CVG has learnt that the game is indeed called Epic Mickey and it's being worked on by ex-Deus Ex man, Warren Spector at his Junction Point studio. But the internet already seems to know that.

We've since been told that it's a Wii-exclusive where you paint your way through levels using the Wii Remote. This 'painting your way' involves you drawing, etching and erasing whole or parts of levels as you go. Capcom's Okami immediately springs to mind but we've not got enough info to go on to make any kind of informed judgement.

As for the story, we've also been told that it'll be based around very old and/or forgotten Disney characters who are out to get their revenge on Mickey, presumably because they're jealous of all his fame and fortune. We Googled 'early Disney characters' and found that Oswald the Lucky Rabbit returned a lot of hits. A bit before even CVG's time all that though.

If games are cel shaded well like Red Steel 2, I suspect little will be done to the visuals other than rezz-ing them up to 720p.

First details of Epic Mickey

A source close to Disney has let slip the first details of Warren Spector's new Wii game, Epic Mickey, to Eurogamer.

The choice of platform, incidentally, boils down to Mickey's tools - paintbrushes, erasers, thinner, pencils and other artist tools - being mapped to Wii remote gestures.

But let's rewind a bit.

Epic Mickey is a tale about the 'forgotten' Disney stars: the rides, the characters, the lesser-known cartoons. When nobody any longer cares, they are cast into a dark void; a forgotten world of broken machines and bitter personalities - a bit like Sid's bedroom in Toy Story, but without the friendly furnishings.

This forgotten world is run by Oswald the Rabbit. He was Disney's first creation, made long before Mickey Mouse, and his jealousy of the newcomer has fermented for years. Now, finally, Oswald is ready for revenge.

He unleashes The Phantom Blot to wipe out Mickey and his cartoon world. The Blot pollutes the Disney universe with sticky black ink that makes colours run and fade (as seen on the Game Informer cover), so it's up to Mickey to restore peace and order. And this is where his tools come in.

Mickey has to draw and scribble his way through levels, mending broken bridges by applying the right colour paint or peering through walls after applying thinner. He can even clear rubble from his path by erasing parts of the world.

Our source told us Epic Mickey is a game about thinking and artwork - laterally considering your environment in order to overcome puzzles.

On top of that is a healthy dose of exploration, plus Mickey will be getting "his first makeover in years". "That's why no one's seen his face yet," our source explained, "But he's far more retro than you've seen him for years."

So reading Eurogamer I am thinking either Zelda/Okami like adventure or Braid like platformer puzzler. Perhaps the painting tools, colors, brushes are like your items in Zelda/Metroid. And you can open a new parts by getting new abilities.

I am definitely interested
