So I was checking out Ninja Gaiden 2, thinking about buying it again.  I never finished it and suddenly remembered why.   The difficulty.  Of course, I'm not the hardcore gamer I used to be.  I don't have time for that shit anymore. But every once in a while, I do enjoy the hard difficulty.   Gears of War games are much better on hardcore.   Some games are, like Kingdom Hearts, need to be hard in order for me to enjoy them.   What about you guys?  Do you love hard/extreme modes or perfectly fine with normal/easy modes?  Do you always play on hard mode or just every once in a while?

Not with most games, but I will at least attempt to play on hard difficulties with my most favorite games, though.

Is Ninja Gaiden 2 on Wii U VC? I never played that one. I remember the original handing me my ass when I played it at my friend's house back in 1990. Good times.

I'm talking about the ones on 360/PS3, though those original NES ones were major ass kickers.  I beat the first one though.

LOL I forgot about the modern ones. Whenever I see "Ninja Gaiden", I immediately think of the 80's arcade and NES games.

The Xbox Ninja Gaiden is brilliant.  I love it.

Hard is now medium or easy, so of course I play everything on hard. But when a game is actually hard on hard, I am perfectly happy to play on lower difficulties ala EDF2025.

Guacamelee was the last genuinally hard game I've played in a while. Some of the platforming in that game is downright evil, and I died in that game a lot more than any I have in quite some time. I was planning on getting 100% on it because I was having so much fun, but I finally got to one section for a piece of the luchadore mask (kind of an optional quest to get the "true" ending), and I just couldn't do it and eventually decided to choose my sanity and a functioning controller over the possibility of getting the 100%.

It did make me reflect though, and I definitely like a challenge, but games that are insanely hard are just not my cup of tea anymore.

I like games to be consistently fair. Hard or not.

This. ^^ I enjoy a good challenge if it's not overly insane. Nothing on the level of Ninja Gaiden (seriously, F those games) but a good Uncharted on Crushing or God of War on Titan is fun if that's what I feel up for,

I play more games on higher difficulties now than I used to due to Achievements and Trophies, but if a game is just being hard to cover up its lack of ideas or polish then I'm not interested.

I thought you were hardcore.

I play hard on most games, but I'll make rare exceptions, especially if I'm unsure of a certain genre.

Yeah I like to try my hand at beating some stiff competition from time.

I don't have the patience for hard modes anymore and when I game I like to be relaxed and enjoying myself as opposed to raging out and wanting to break my controller in half. I also find most games if you play them on harder levels tend to have a few parts that are just plain cheap, and that pisses me off.

So I stick to normal and sometimes I may even go to easy if its something I just really don't want to get even a little stuck on.

I don't shy away from hard games, but I'll rarely actively persue the extra challenge.  If there are difficulty options, I'll always go with normal.  Matter of fact, I don't often play the kind of games where there is scalable difficulty.  Most Nintendo games don't offer the choice, and racers just get harder as you go along.  I hardly play any 3rd person action games or shooters.

There is also the issue of limited game time.  If hard mode is something that is unlocked after beating the game, I most likely won't play it.  I think that ever since gaming went 3D, the number of games I played multiple times in succession won't exceed a dozen or so.

The most difficult opponent will always be human. Me and a friend of mine were on pretty equal footing when it came to Tekken. In fact we'd take turns beating each other's Wang all night long and yes our Wangs were some of the hardest around.

I'm laughing because I like Futurama and that gif looks funny but I'm not sure what it's suppose to mean.
