Tried a few demos last night. Here are some quick impressions:

FIFA 10: Very, very similar to 09. I played a few matches and controls don't feel too different considering the much boasted 360 degree control. Other than that, the game's overall speed is way slower than in 09, which allows for more elaborate play.

PES 2010: OMG! When did PES started sucking this hard? Animations are beyond horrible, stiff and canned, and framerate is all over the place. Shooting feels more arcade than sim, as if no other factors were considered like player speed, foot angle or body momentum. I am shocked by the overall feel of half-assedness that this once revered series now has.

WET: Like a mix of Mirror's Edge and Red Steel. Weird concept, interesting, but with flawed execution. You control a potty-mouthed girl shooting and slicing her way through hordes of bad guys, with a few parkour elements thrown in and some bullet time for good measure. Once you get over the flashy animations in slow motion, it seems like the game could get boring fast. I guess it will all depend on level design, if it's interesting enough, it could work. There some QTEs in there, not difficult or engaging at all, but at least nice to watch. Once.

IL2-Sturmovik: I have no idea why did I DL this. I get dizzy with flying sims. The IL Sturmovik series revolves around dogfights in WWII scenarios. It looks good, has a nice tutorial for the uninitiated, and is not too difficult to grab thanks to an arcade difficulty mode. I guess it will appeal to genre fans. I will steer very clear of it.

Call of Juarez: Never played the first one. This one looks pretty good. Dev team totally nailed the western theme, and dialogue between the lead characters is filled with great, cocky one-liners. Actual gameplay is 1st person, where you kill as many enemies as possible to fill your focus meter, which allows you to stop time for a bit, choose a number of targets fast, and then unleashing a barrage of bullets, Wild Bill Hickock-style. This might be a buy because I'm a sucker for westerns.

Hmm, never heard of IL2-Sturmovik.  Since I don't really have anything to say on the impressions, I'll add that demoes are the main thing I miss with the Wii as compared to the PS3 and 360.  Oh well, Internet usage caps make it suck either way.

Really? What service do you use and what's the cap? I'm using Shaw High-Speed Extreme and the cap is 100 GB per month.

Anyway good impressions there Steel. I may have to give that IL2-Sturmovik and Call of Juarez a try. I tried Wet and actually found it pretty cool. I'll just rent it though, too many other games with more priority for me.

very useful impressions, thanks.  the only one of those games that was a potential buy for me was fifa 10 but i almost didn't want it to be that much better than fifa 9 so i wouldn't have to buy it, and that's what it sounds like from what you say

It's been a while now. The Wii version is the only thing that is left for PES series.

Cogeco, 60GB cap (100GB is available at a higher tier though).  It's enough; it's not as if I'm straining or anything, but demoes that start getting over a GB can become an issue.  I also wasn't strictly referring to myself, either, as the Aussies here have their own even worse usage limits.

FIFA10 sounds meh.

Definitely going to be picking up the Wii PES (assuming it's good, which it should be) this year, but not sure if I'll get any PSS3 footy games.

The Il-Sturmovic console one seems like it's been casualisde. Not sure who they're targetting considering it doesn't sound great for the hardcore, and isn't casual enough for the casuals.

EDGE has been saying that FIFA X is the coming of Christ. Where is this coming from Foolz?

Edge as in the magazine?! Or the person? There's a big difference dammit!

Nevertheless 09 was meant to be the coming of Christ. It was a great game too, but PES08 on the Wii was far better, even though it lacked features.

PES08 Wii was only better at controls. And then only the IR portion of them; some waggle movements felt tacked on, and shooting was less than accurate.

Even though it controlled great, everything else in the game was shit. It looked like ass (for real, PS2 like visuals), had no Master League, it lacked a proper transference system, choosing instead a stupid card system that had you drawing players without knowing who they were, commentary was the same old shit from the past 5 years.

With things like Play as a Pro, Manager Mode, superior camera work, better AI, among others, I think calling FIFA 09 PS3/360 an inferior game to PES 08 or even PES 09 on the Wii is reaching. If you were talking about FIFA Wii 09 then yes, you're right.
