Christ I hope I'm not falling behind. I was going to play yesterday, but unfortunately due to some testicular trauma I opted to make it an early night and get some rest.

Tiamat only kicked my ass until I figured out the timing to dash away from her fireballs. The second part of the battle was a walk in the park. Provided said park had a grotesquely deformed woman with saggy tits.

My son, ran at me at full speed and head butted me in the crotch. That was yesterday and today I still hurt. So today is all about ice packs and rest.  I think I will be okay, but I still feel like this on Monday it'll be time for a professional to cup my boys and give me their opinion. If they tell me I need a scan I'll request your services, provided you don't post any of them on the forum.

Mini rant coming, why do some games get cult status and others dont. Lets take Beyond Good and Evil, basically a Zelda style action/adventure game that gets a ton of love for what, the story, its characters. But the gameplay was pedestrian, very good game but nothing that special. Or Ico, everyone loves that game... what game, its like 4 hours long. You solve like 5 puzzles and its over. Oh but you hold hands, how amazing, *tear*, give me a break. Here is a game with great combat, incredible level design, constant changing situations that never get boring and no one pays attention. I do believe this game should be mentioned with the big boys like DMC, GoW, NG, not cause the combat is as good but cause it uses that kind of combat and puts it into far more diverse gameplay situations. There is a second tier level of those kinds of game which include games like Heavenly Sword, Dante's Inferno, and many others, Darksiders is better than those.

And just think, we all had to harass you to put aside Mass Effect to play this.

It's too soon for Darksiders to gain cult status. It might get there, but not now.

No, you can tell when something is becoming beloved. I saw it instantly with Demon's Souls (totally deserving as well). There is a sort of passion that you see grow within the fanbase, this game doesn't have enough of that. I guess its cause its made by cutting and pasting from so many games so its missing that bold originality that usually creates the cult game. But the game is just so solid and even though it does use many elements of other games its in a new combination that hasn't really been tried. The mark that this is a great game is that I can say Zelda can learn something from this game, so can GoW.

Well I hope your balls get better. The fear is any kind of rupture which can be very dangerous but I assume its so painful you would be in the hospital. You can develop a hematocele or hematoma which is basically like a bloot clot in the balls. Sadly I am no doctor, I just know what they look like and their symptoms, after that its in the doctors hands.

How to make combat interesting  while still having puzzle filled dungeons and various items to use. That you can have pattern boss fights that require some combat skills to defeat. Also to not be afraid to add a bit of epic to your game, in this game when you enter the first dungeon a giant bat dragon thing crashes through the roof in a battle with an angel horse, they are duking it out right in front of you in real time, impressive stuff. Or in the second dungeon the massive boss pops in from time to time. In Zelda you have dragons that for the most part do nothing, they sit and wait for you to reach the boss room. Imagine if you are exploring the dungeon and a huge ass dragon crashes through a wall and starts trying to kill you. Add the unexpected to the game.

God of War like combat in my Zelda game? Thanks, but no thanks.

All the other parts in your post is not something terribly original. Many other game do that.

You know what let Zelda try to do something new instead of copying a game that is made copying other games.

I beat Tiamat ... finally.  Damn that bitch was hard.  It took me at least a dozen attempts.  Every time I had too little on the life bar left by the time I got too bombs to explode on her but I got her in the end.  I hated her more than I hate the god-awful swedish metal band with the same name.

Hope the rest of the game will not prove as big a challenge as this as it has tested my patience.

Oh well, I realise I'm laging behind the rest of the group ... but on we go!!

Go gaming club.

I'm going to be away for the weekend, so by the time I get back, I'll be the one lagging behind. Right now, we're at the same part.

I love Samael. Wings inverted, deep voice, and an attitude of someone who has waited for an eternity to finally stick it to the man in retaliation.

Hey, leave Ico alone, you don't have to tear down something in order to build up something else.  Ico got cult status for several reasons.  Look at the catalog of PS games before it -- all pretty run of the mill action and or RPG type games.  Then you get a game that has a mysterious story, but no language. An art design that was unprecedented in it's presentation (on a console). A low production run (initially). And lots of touching moments as well -- like sitting on a couch to save.  Even the 4-6 hours of gameplay was something new (and I don't think it was a full-retail price -- though I could be wrong on that).  As for the game play? It was basically like PQ -- nothing special -- but you asked why it attained cult status, not for reasons as to why it's a "better game".

I think it comes down to a lot of things, but mostly the publisher and what they can spend on promotion and also release schedule.  They brought this out just after New Years in 2010 (just when most western gamers have either a stack of xmas games to play or an empty wallet from buying gifts for others).

THQ doesn't play the PR game the way the other studios do either.  Instead of the annoying slow drop of information they announce it at the investors call, you don't see anything forever, then a preview, then launch and then no post-launch support.

The sequel comes next year, so they get a second chance to give the game some attention.

You're not lagging behind.  I just completed that part as well.   I'm really enjoying this game, especially the first dungeon.  The first dungeon was pretty cool. I never got a sense of confusion when it was time to carry on, even with the scale of the place. Being the dumbass that I am, I went about using the  boomerang and bombs in a creative, but tedious manner.  I would line them up in a string against the wall and blow them up instead of just placing one on the rock and bring the fire to it.  I honestly can't answer why I thought I had to do it that way.

Tiamat was cool, but damn, her pattern was a bitch to figure out.  She was definitely challenging.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing as Vader.  Zelda can definitely beenfit from a little extra ...epicness.
