Okay, here you can propose a current event from the news and see if if would work as a game. Here are a couple:

Haiti's Earthquake.  This one would be pretty easy.  You could do it CoD style where you jump from either an aid worker, Marine, looter, or victim in the street.  I think it could be pretty involving -- use some of the mechanics from Disaster Report on the PS2.

Canada's PM prorogation of parliament.  This could be a little tricker, but maybe make it like a Phoenix Wright game with some Sonic and Mario at the Winter Olympics.  Not sure there is a game in this one.

Late Night Wars. Play as Conan or Jay, each with their own paths, one good one evil. As Conan you battle evil executives, giant chins, mutant NBC peacocks and broken contract spells on your way to the FOX network.  Use your awesome hair to pummel enemies. Summon friends like Triumph and the Masturbating Bear to aid you.

The Jay Leno path has you using your chin to brown nose executives. Back stab all your late night brethren in your quest to take over late night. Use your crappy jokes to put enemies to sleep. The final boss is a Conan Letterman hybrid monster that you screw over.

No buy, unless the story has you discover that harper is an alien and you have to eliminate him and destroy his home planet.

I'd like to try a disaster themed game - maybe with a bit of strategy. Like you know that a tsunami is going to hit or comet or something and you have to work on  saving people or lessening the effects. The very end is the disaster and you see how you did. Less like an first person action game and more like a real time strategy . I'm not sure how you could make that exciting enough though.

You would get so many hits if you had that as a  flash game up right now

I was thinking about the Canadian Parliament game, and I think it would be an awesome DS Phoenix Wright game.  You have 7 days before Parliament is closed and you have to investigate why it's being closed, culminating in the last session of parliament where you confront the PM in question time.  Is he closing parliament to appease his conservative base? Or perhaps it is to staunch the investigation of his corrupt cabinet.  Or maybe it really is because of the olympics.  high drama indeed!

Or to prevent an election.

I swear our country has the attention span of a goldfish.

Yeah the Big freeze UK game other known as:

UK Ice Driving (Not starring Colin McCrae)

In the game you play in a British winter wonderland around familiar locales racing your cars about on ice, trying to ferry passengers around to locations before you skid and die or your car breaks down. There are also mini-games where you have to try and survive the night in your car in the middle of a blizzard. This involves rubbing your thighs to keep warm, retrieving snow from outside and melting it inside the car for drinking water.

And braving the cold outside to go for a number two.

Oh - you have to bring them to canada. I had a roomate whose british relation came here one winter and was disturbed at the driving he was going to do through all the wide open sparsely populated very cold spaces.  God that would be a good show here I think.

How about a game where you fight never ending battles with the dumbest most idiotic creatures that just won't give in.  It would have to be a world were everyday logic and rules of nature will not apply.  And everytime you think you've won a battle, the rules will change and something else will come out to wipe out all of your hard work.

We'll call it "Gamespot Forums - the Game" *rimshot*

Thank you folks I'm here all week.

I'd go for that. Like a dot hack game where you battle online enemies and plot their demise.  Persona 4 + Dot Hack.

Needs more for a full game.  How about like the game The Thing for the original XB? Where you have to limit the amount of time outside.  You could have it set in London post-21st century ice age.  All the buildings would be under 40 feet of snow, so you could would be entering buildings at the fourth floor and going down into them for supplies, using the tube as a cross-city transit.  Being a food hoarder and fighting off people who need food, make good/ evil judgments about who to help, eventually developing a party of 4 to get to the chunnel and escape to France.

The Thing meets Fallout 3 meets L4D.

If there is nuclear fallout that would qualify as a current event. As it is, we just call break down cover with the d-pad and then listen to an automated message via the wii remote speaker.

SCORE!
