Bishock 2's gameplay is basically what the ads for and the reviews for the first game claimed it was.

I'm never as disgusted as Gagan is at most games, but I agree with his points. AW2 is this years media darling that I feel doesn't deserve it if gameplay is what you are looking for. It's getting the awards cause of "art". They will point to the dance number and say it's a brilliant level, yeah it's fun and creative but it wasn't a good level to play. They will say it bleeds FMV and gameplay in ways it's never been done before. It gets props for doing things a mediocre show trying to be twin peaks would do. Sam Lake will be called an auteur cause the story I guess has more thought into it than most games but that really isn't much of a compliment.
ultimately it's an accessible horror game that I think many more casual players of the genre will play and go "wow, I was scared, intrigued and I didn't get frustrated, therefore it's great!" But frustration is part of this genre, it's supposed to be unsettling. I didn't think any of the survival horror mechanics they added to this game were all that great. The combat is mostly the same boring stuff from the first game. And the whole investigation angle and being able to switch between characters is a whole lot of fluff that doesn't really add much. It has some really cool mechanics with Wake and being able to change the environment in real time, that was awesome and the whole game should have been Wake and exploring those mechanics.
But it's basically above average story told in a way that's more interesting than the usual game with a good enough horror game that accessible.
Meh.
I have to admit I was so soured by Alan Wake 1, a game I literally waited years to play, that when Alan Wake 2 was getting these reviews I was still skeptical.
As much as I enjoyed RE2R, I had more fun with RE3R. The game and boss battles were a lot more epic and fun. Resident evil's take on the BFG!

1. It's beautiful game and game journos put way way way too much stock into it the game is pretty or not.
2. Game journos have horrendous taste
Second game I beat is Super Mario Wonder. This is almost what I want out of a new 2d Mario. I been wanting a 2d Mario game to have the fresh ideas feel of the galaxy games and to a lesser extent 3d world, but for 2d obstacle courses. Wonder sort of tries that, but doesn't go far enough. It's lacking bite (by even Mario standards), and I will argue that far too many of its levels gimmick/fresh bits are a bit too on rails to be all that satisfying. It would rank pretty low as far as 2d Mario games for me right now, shit I'd take a bunch of the new super Mario bros games over it purely as platformers
Give this game a galaxy 2 style sequel and let this team cook.
Game number 3 I beat is the Tekken story mode. It's a fighting game single player mode but net play was a problem day 1 so I had to play something. Needless to say I still universally hate fighting game single player, the story is hilariously batshit in a way I'm fond of tho. Shits anime as fuck.
High chance I don't beat a game again anytime soon because of Tekken 8 szn tho.
Anyway, this was without question the best $9 video game I've ever bought. I don't plan on returning to it anytime soon, but I definitely will come back to it one of these days. Plus there is a sequel on the horizon, SaGa Emerald Beyond, so that may be something worth picking up down the road as well.
Anyway, I'm glad I plowed through it, so now I can begin the 4th which is actually my favorite in the series. And once that's done, I'm finally going to check out the 5th which I've never actually played.
Just finished Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and wow, incredible. Great looking, amazing gameplay, fantastic music, well written, and well voice acted. Such a crazy amount of variety and a ton of content. You can tell that SquareEnix really put their all into this. I put over 120 hours into this initial play through and still have some stuff left to do. Loved all the mini games in this, and there’s a hell of a lot of them. Sadly a couple of them seem way too difficult for me to get everything that they unlock. Mainly the piano one. Such an amazing amount of charm and personality in the characters.
An easy 10/10 and far and away my GotY so far. Kind of hard to see something topping it right now.

My man. I am so happy with gaming right now. I went from what I now consider to be the greatest RPG ever in BG3 (which I still need to finish) into Rebirth which is a masterpiece in its own way and a dream come true. And they are sooooo different and satisfy such different aspects of gaming I love. It's been like fever dream playing these two games for like 300 hours between them.

Yeah it definitely feels like such a fantastic time for gaming right now. I need to get back to Baldur’s Gate III as well. Was having a great time with it.
The Last Campfire - 06/04 - Switch - 8/10 - Enjoyable little puzzler in which you roam mysterious lands aid the Forlorne you come by. The Forlorne are travellers like you who have given up hope. There are themes of depression and other forms of angst, but the whole game is just one big warm hug. The female narator also adds a lot to the charm of the game. There's some strange stutter in the Switch version during non-gameplay moments, and for me at least the game could have been much longer, but I enjoyed what was there.
World of Goo - 14/06 - Netflix mobile gaming - 8/10 - I played this game when it originally released on the Wii back when and it's still as unique, inventive and enjoyable. It's takes the bridge builder premise that was all the rage when it was first released and runs with it while adding 'goo-iness', absurdist satirical humour and charm. If you have a Netflix subscription and haven't played this yet, I stronly suggest you check it out.
Brothers was a nice surprise. I waited over a decade to play and I'm glad that I actually got to it.
I waa wrong about Bioshock 2. I thought it was a much weaker entry but turns out the gameplay is better than the first. Now the story and characters are not as memorable but still a better experience than I recalled. Very enjoyable sequel.
