Does anyone know anything about its most recent development?
Alan Wake looks more like a survival horror game.

From what I saw at E3, I was quite disappointed with the sort of shooter based averageness I saw. I was expecting something different like Shattered Memories.
Anyhow, will get back to you.
Right, watched it. I'm torn, I love the story aspect and atmosphere and visuals, but then the action focus really turns me off.
I want horror games to be less about shooting things. More about tension, exploration and thinking. The epic fights with slow mo and rotating cameras is too far, in the aspect that it feels like a populist concession.
There are so many action games, I'd like to see a thinking mans game.

On consoles, you mean. Otherwise, you can build a PC and get one of the Anno series games, or Europa Universalis III. Those are thinking men games.

I don't want to think that hard.
I mean like horror/adventure/detective games. Or making a graphic adventure style game, only in 3D and with proper production values. But one in which you don't bust out a machine gun to pummel enemies.

Oh yeah. I'd love to have a game like that. Too bad you don't have a PS3, because Heavy Rain sounds like it could be right up your alley on this regard. Sadly, games that have tried to incorporate investigation/detective elements into an action construct have failed. Like Condemned.

I did enjoy the first Condemned, but the sequel got a bit of a critical mauling and poor sales. I guess I didn't feel compelled to pick up a sequel. My dream game would be like a modern Tex Murphy game played in the first person with Arc or the Wii remote. Only with all the modern trappings like Call of Duty camera angles and mo-cap and object manipulation like Elebits only much more refined.
Agnates said:Anno on Wii is pretty awesome, probably Ubi's only truly great Wii game, so, try that. It's not as serious and complicated as the PC games, but it's not kiddy either. Other than that, for Adventures, um, Another Code R is good. There are tons of adventure games on PC of course, but the best are older, with few exceptions.
I've been wanting to try Anno for ages but its price kept fluctuating so eventually I just decided to wait until it was hobo price. Angry Monkey here played it.
We had a thread but only one person got it.
IGN review Anno Dawn of Discovery (Wii) 'Bright, breezy & beautifully presented'
I'm playing Another Code R very slowly, currently stuck inside the underwater lab. The slow text scrolling kills me and the way you cant pick up useful items until the game lets you.
I don't know if it'll be the RE4 of this gen. Dead Space was kind of that game for me as well as RE5. It does look fantastic though and it sounds like the writing for the story will be quite good. I've really been looking forward to the game for quite some time so it's great to know it'll finally be out soon.

Not that I was going to argue with you on this particular issue, since I don't care about ASK "Hyperbole" Story's statement.
The Resident Evil 4 of this generation...there I said it and I believe it!
Here's the IGN video preview:

Wow!
The uses of lighting and atmosphere is incredible! And the way it's played, could this be the Resident Evil 4 of this generation?
