I stopped watching Agents of SHIELD around the midseason finale.

I watch iZombie when SHIELD is on and Yesterday's Flash was really crazy it is all leading up to the Season finale which will be crazy.

The preview of the next episode has GRODD.

So I just saw avengers 2, so the main question, better than the first. How do I even answer that, I think the best way is to forget the analysis for a moment and just go with what is the best indication, how did I feel when the movie ended. I really enjoyed it but I was not jumping up and down with excitement, i was after I saw avengers 1. I wanted to see avengers again the second I got out of that movie, I don’t care if I see the sequel again. So clearly I did not like it as much as the first, now let me try to figure out why.

First problem is that we are being overwhelmed with superhero movies and crazy action that was once novel is now becoming common place. The action is spectacular, you will see some amazing stuff. There are some shots that will dazzle you, there are great crowd pleasing moments. But I also felt that some of the action was missing something to ground it, to make it matter. It becomes a lot of noise at times, I don’t think whedon can create a suspenseful action scene, he is just good with the cool visuals.

AOU attempts more character development than the first movie. It being the second movie in a trilogy this is of course the “dark” one. It attempts the whole team is in turmoil and they need to find themselves first to come together later. Problem is other movies have done this so much better and I think it starts to become clear that the reality is that these characters aren’t that deep. Compare them to x-men and they don’t nearly have the same depth. They work when they are simply being heroes and joking around with each other.  Also a large part of the second act is spent setting up other movies, it got a bit weird.

There is a lot to like for sure, it’s a really funny movie when it wants to be, the banter between them is fantastic. Hawkeye gets good charscter development, he seems more human than the rest. There are glimpses of the rift between cap and stark which will be addressed in the next movie which is a more compelling plot. Vision is so awesome, wow, perfect translation to screen.

Ultron will be a big dividing factor for audiences. He is a weird mix of menacing and a jokester and I just never could figure out if we are supposed to be afraid or laugh all the time. It’s an odd performance by spacer, he does fine but I don’t know if it fit the character.

i think some that felt avengers 1 was too simple a comic movie will find more dramatic story lines and a better attempt at charscter development in AOU which may lead them to liking this movie for. But those looking for a deep comic movie, I am talking something like xmen level won’t get it here.

Last night I watched Wild.  "Endurance" movies normally don't sit well with me at all.  I lasted all of the first five minutes of 127 Hours.  I sort of enjoyed Wild though.  A movie about a girl who decides to hike the entire 2500 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail in an effort to pick up the pieces of her fucked up life and get a grip and start afresh.  The film was made based on the book she wrote describing her experience.  It's very simple but well made and enjoyable.  One thing I'm not entirely sure about is where I stand on Reese Witherspoon as an actress.  The whole film is centred on her and she sort of carries it well even if I'm not sure if she was the perfect one for the role.

The thing I felt most intensely after watching this was pangs of guilt for a misplaced and wasted youth playing video games and partying instead of going on life-changing adventures such as thru-hiking etc.  Perhaps there is still time though, who knows.

Nice reviews guys.

I saw the Badabook, Austrailian horror movie. Decent, slightly scary that it was a horror film about how bad parenthood can be. It never really explained anything about the Badabook so it felt a bit hollow in the end.

Also saw A Walk Among the Tombstones, it's a decent book movie i.e feels like a crime novel adaptation and is compelling and decent to watch.

District B13 (Banlieue 13) - How strange to watch what is essentially a French martial arts movie.
Memories of Murder (Sarinui chueok) - Not quite what I expected.
My Tehran for Sale - Too Australian.
Omar - The non-Persian Middle East this time. Not as interesting.
The Volcano (Eyjafjallajökull) - Too difficult to pronounce, eh?
The Past (Le passé) - Liked it a lot.
You Laugh But It's True - He speaks Sotho!
Shall We Kiss? (Un baiser s'il vous plaît) - Passable.
Osama - Not that Osama. From Afghanistan nevertheless.
Only Lovers Left Alive - Not my favourite Jim Jarmusch movie.
About Elly (Darbareye Elly) - Amazing.
Turtles Can Fly - So bizarre.
Don Jon - Interesting but disappointing a bit.
Welcome to the Sticks (Bienvenue chez les ch'tis) - Good to see a place other than Paris represented.
Frank - Such a strange fellow.
Matchstick Men - Definitely worth watching.
The Punk Singer - Interesting information.
You Will Meet a Tall, Dark Stranger - Underwhelming.
Matariki - A movie from around where I grew up.
Monsieur Lazhar - A Canadian French movie. Not clichéd fortunately.
Inside Llewyn Davis - One of my favourite Coen Brothers movies.
Hell and Back Again - I'd have preferred the movie follow someone less intolerable.
Exiles (Exils) - Gets a bit boring near the end.
El topo - What.
How to Train Your Dragon 2 - Cat*.
Restrepo - Easier to watch than Hell and Back Again.
Good Night, and Good Luck - Oxford comma.
The Lego Movie - Fun.
Saving Mr. Banks - Maybe I should watch Mary Poppins again.
The Haunting in Connecticut - Boring.

I caught the new Avengers today.  It's good but certainly inferior to the first.  I guess my biggest problem is that it was a bit overcrowded with tons of new characters.  I did enjoy the Bruce/ Natasha storyline and Ultron was a great villain.  The action seemed to be lacking.  Maybe it's just a feeling I had that we had seen it before. It didn't help that I was distracted by my son who chose to talk through 50% of the movie. Hrm

Arrow/Flash Spin-off Legends of Tomorrow has been officially picked up to series

Official description for Legends of Tomorrow:

"When heroes alone are not enough, the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat—one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?"

How the heck is that an Arrow spin off? And shouldn't it just be a Booster Gold show?

I'm pretty sure this is not going to be a very popular opinion, I struggled with it myself personally for a bit, but there's no getting away with it.  Game of Thrones Season 5 so far is boring as fuck.  Seriously?  I waited a whole year for this?  It's pathetic.

About the only good thing was the very last scene of episode 5, so I guess there is still chance for them to turn it around but so far it's been the absolute worst season by far.

Shit better start coming down fast.

No, this season has been pretty slow.  Feels very much like season 1 when they were setting up a lot of stories, but not having so many payoffs. And episode 5 was particularly slow.

That said, episode 6 was when the first season really started to deliver and things are positioned for that to happen now. Little Finger makes it back to King's Landing next episode so that alone should make for something good.

I watched the complete S1 of Hannibal, and it was amazing. Really good series, I don't remember being hooked to a TV series like this since Breaking Bad. Mads Mikkelsen is crazy good and omg so elegant. Watching Hugh Dancy's character slow downward spiral was great too. Even Fat Fishburne was cool.
