Leo, I just remembered...how could we forget to list one of the greatest Nippon-Ichi, and one of the most hardcore platform/action game ever made!!!

This game is awesome and I still play it when I get the chance. One of the best PSP games ever and one of my favorite Nippon-Ichi games!

It's extremely hardcore and punishingly difficult. It's unforgiving, but still not to the point where the game is cheap. Boss fights are great and like Disgaea, this game is downright hilarious! The voice-overs are funny as well!

But only PSP owners apply! Nyaa

Leo, if you haven't already, maybe you should finally get that PSP so you can experience one of Nippon-Ichi's finest games ever made! WinkWink

I don't have a PSP and have never wanted a PSP.  ^^ That game, and only that game, justifies its existence.

Speaking of the Shin Megami Tensei games, are there are any that are less repetitive than Persona 3?  I loved the design aspects, and the battle system was decent, but it was insanely drawn out.

Nocturne, if you haven't played it yet!

Beautiful graphics. FAST paced battles. TONS of Demons to Fuse and Discover. Multiple Game Paths and Endings. Dante from the Devil May Cry series. Total replayability. Awesome, awesome, awesome game!

Recommendation complete!  Will get.  I was seriously tempted to get Persona 4 despite how stale the gameplay was in Persona 3, just because of how much I liked everything but the level design.

They should re-name themselves as Nippon-Niche!

But I do enjoy their games, although I get a little tiresome of them recycling so much. But I don't blame them since they mostly work with  a lower budget.

Atlier Iris, Mana Khemia, and Ar Tonelico...very similar but I guess it does appeal to a certain group of people.

LOL

I love the idea of these games but I just couldn't get into FF: Tactics. I sucked at it and it was boring. Sad And I obviously get that vibe from them!

So. TOTALLY. NOT. LIKE. FF: TACTICS!

These games are ANYTHING but boring!

Have I mentioned that Phantom Brave is stealing all my time away from my other recent purchase...?

Namely: Batman: Arkham Asylum...?

Have you played Prinny yet? I do remember you saying you're almost tempted to get a PSP just for that game.

And I hear ya' about Batman. I haven't really played my copy either since I've been bogged down with SoulCalibur Broken Destiny and Dissidia. My PSP didn't get the love for awhile, but now it's getting a lot of my attention! Oh yeah, I also picked up Gradius Collection, which includes Gradius I, I, III, IV, and Gaiden. So I'm pretty happy with my PSP right now!!!

But I definitely NEED to play Batman. I'm taking my sweet time. Don't want to pass it too quickly. I want to savor every moment! Grinning

Hard strategy RPG sounds like it gameplay wise, though! Nyaa

of course lots of people said Valkyria Chronicles was hard, but in the end I found it to be pretty good difficulty wise.

Is there an extremely cheap starting point for the series? Nyaa

Disgaea: Hour of Darkness was reprinted as a Greatest Hit; that should be really, really cheap now!

Since I've now finished The Diabolical Box (and have once more proven through Professor Layton that I am indeed the smartest man alive) I shall now go and trade in this game for Disgaea DS, which is supposed to be a damn near perfect remake of Hour of Darkness.  If the game does not please me I shall let you know.

Disgaea DS is awesome --BUT REMEMBER-- it is based on the first game in the series!

The graphics on the DS aren't as good as the PSOne version and it has no voice-over in the cut-scenes.

This is kinda like a light version of the game that is made to be PLAYABLE but kinda no-frills.

The only thing that version has over the original is the Etna Mode.

If you have access to a PSOne, I would recommend playing it on that. IF NOT, don't let the DS version discourage you!

Phantom Brave and all the other Disgaeas are separate stories from each other, so you don't have to play one before the others. The cameos happen in most of the games AFTER the main game is finished (with the exception of Etna in Disgaea 2!)

trading diabolical box in means that you will be missing out on all the weekly downloadable puzzles GASP  not something the smartest man alive would do

I had Disgaea DS. It was cool for a DS game and NIS did a great job of porting it to the DS. But the voices, sound, and the music sounded very low even on full blast. I thought it was my DS or my game card but others had the same complaint.

The game was still great and no sacrifices was made to it regarding content and gameplay. But resolution was obviously scaled down. So it did give me a slight headache playing and I always had to play with headphones.

The PSP version however, is perfect. Full voice-overs, music/sound is awesome, and the resolution is even better than the PS2 original. I think there were some complaints with the change in the voice actress regarding Etna but other than that, the PSP version is the definitive version.

I'm not sure if I'm going to pick up Disgaea 2 port for the PSP. I'm still working on the first one. Maybe later once the price drops a bit or if I can get a good deal on it.

Well keep 2 things in mind.  1.  I'm completely puzzled out.  I don't want want to look at anther Laytonesque puzzle for many months.  2. If I trade it in today I get a very nice credit towards another game (around $16) .  If I get the urge to do the puzzles again I can rent it for $6, and I still come out $10 ahead.

See there?  Smartest man alive.
