Okay playing the game again, but this time with Luigi. It is still fun, there are so many awesome levels in the game and going through them with a fast pace while doing some shortcuts that are shown in the video above, or some that are not shown, is simply awesome.

After playing DKC2 I realized the game level structure would work perfectly in a 3D Mario game. In DKC2 you have a level with an end goal, like all 2D Mario's, but there is more. In every level a DK token is hidden. This is like the comet medal coins in Galaxy 2. But there are also between 1-3 bonus rooms. These rooms have mini games, like find the token, collect the stars and destroy all enemies. If you finish these rooms you get a special coin that can be used to open secret levels. A bit like Star Coins in NSMBWii.

This system could also be used in 3d Mario's. You have a end goal like in 2D Mario's and all the minigame-like star missions, like destroy all enemies, could be in the level after you find either a secret room or perhaps a character that asks you to clean the trash or some other thing. Complete it and you get a coin or something else, and then you go on with the level. These coins would be used for unlocking stuff. This way you can have the level progression like 2D Mario's, while still keeping the variety of races, skating challenges and comet challenges like in the 3d Mario's.

For shame GG and Archie, go get the green stars!

I saw the new EGM at a book store. The quality of the paper is great, the magazine seems like a great rebirth. I went to the reviews and they had Galaxy 2 as their first review. They gave it a 9.0, even the second opinion was a 9.0. They said the game felt like it ran out of steam by the end reusing old objectives and have some stars be simple mini games.

So the new EGM sucks as much as the old EGM then.

I just beat Mario Galaxy 2. Playtime 14 Hours, 36 Minutes. 71 Stars. Probably won't go back to get the rest, as I agree with EGM...pretty much had my fill at this point and feel no need to get the rest just as I feel no need to get 1000 achievement points in most games. Very Very Solid Platformer though, definitely a 9.0 for sure. I like it more than Galaxy 1, and about equal to Sunshine.

I actually like playing as Luigi more than Mario. He's faster and can jump higher.

At least they don't seem to be dishing out perfect 10's to every game that's a GOTY contender.

I don't have access to the print edition yet, but I've been reading their online edition (which I was skeptical of) and it's a really good read.  It's not like a website -- it really is bringing the sensibilities of good magazine design and making it work on a screen.

That was 2-3 months ago.  Shouldn't you let them know so they send a replacement?  Maybe it got lost in the mail
