I came for Destiny's score, but stayed for Doom II's text.

30; Beat Beyond Good and Evil - 5/10

I recognize what people like about the characters and settings, but would it ever kill gamers to want a sequel to a video game that actually plays well? Because Beyond Good and Evil really makes me appreciate Zelda, and Zelda's a fat bitch everytime it releases with dull combat. But it's a shit load better than this.

^ because instulting only one loved franchises (well, game in the case of BG&E) per post just doesn't cut it.

31. Beat Marlow Briggs: And The Mask of Death - 5/10

It starts off rad with this low rent God of War charm, and it's tries really hard to surprise you by mixing it up between combat, platforming, turret sequences, a vertical scrolling shooter, and all that jazz.

But in the same way Beyond Good and Evil makes me have a bit more of appreciation for Zelda, I have more of an appreciation. Not enough to like any of them beyond God of War 2, and Kratos still eats a massive bag of dicks. But those games are more polished, like good beat-em up games: Bayonetta, Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden, even "spongy" enemies aren't an issue, because there is usually a way to really deal out a lot of damage. Can't say that about Marlow, his combat is too soft for enemies that take forever to die.

The game runs out of enemies really quick, the camera is never as good as God of War is, the spectacle is boring, the boss fights are dull, if the game was 3 hours it could have been a fun romp. But by the 3 hour mark it begins bringing in possessed versions of old enemies, and it just feels lazy. By the way professional hacks known as Bungie built an entire expansion on the old enemies being brought back, but now "taken" form or whatever the fuck. Just throwing that out there, they made a move that some budget ass studio did.

Best achievement in video game history though with Skip Master - Skip all the cutscenes in one playthrough.

Fuck yeah.

32. Beat Limbo - 7/10

I feel the way about it now, the same way I felt about it in 2010. That first half is a genuinely great experience the game oozes atmosphere, there is a nice sense of actual world building in something so basic with little touches like how you can basically drown, dropping traps on you, and it's a clever touch much like Mooksi said about Doom 2. They are gotcha deaths, but they are traps, they should get you. The game's instant respawn helps matters, and there is this great sense of an actual journey happening with the way you start and then cross the river, and then work up to your first encounter with the spider and the bad kids.

The game's highlight is still very much taking down that spider (spoiler you take down a nemesis in a video game, more at 11), but it's after that I feel like the game just becomes less interesting. Because it doubles down on the aspect of the game actually isn't all that great: The puzzle platforming. Don't get me wrong I much prefer Limbo compared to average fare like Munin or The Bridge, but it's not exactly Braid or The Swapper either.

The puzzles simply aren't interesting enough, they more or less solve themselves, and you just go through the motions. Often maybe failing more because the puzzle requires very specific timing. And other ones just feel more tedious than they need to be like this one stretch where after the mind jacking worm thing I had to back track back to the area I actually need to do some platforming. Made the whole mind jack thing feel pointless.

The mechanics heavy nature of the 2nd half, if anything takes away from the game feeling like a journey, and as Ben put it the game's narrative thread vanishes after you reach the factory.

It's still a good game, and I was wondering if I was just less than enthusiastic about it because of my excitement going in the first time as it was supposed to be the next big center piece of summer of arcade, but no I still feel the same way. Limbo is a good game, but it's a tale of a really strong first half, followed by a second half where it's mostly an okay puzzle platformer.

I do actually like the game feel though, there is a proper nastyness to it. And again, that atmosphere. I could fall asleep to just the main menu of this game. It's relaxing.

I was aiming for 3, but BG&E's influences are basically just Zelda. And while Zelda has awful pacing, it usually has very good controls and top notch dungeons (because Nintendo). Beyond Good and Evil is conceptually more interesting than Zelda ever is, and it doesn't waste my time the way Zelda does, but it's so bad at like fundamental things that a game shouldn't actually be poor at.

I finished Gone Home, which I sort of enjoyed, in spite of an incredible lack of gameplay.  Some people said that the social message was really laid on thick.  I disagree considering the time period, where coming out was much less accepted. It was a much bigger deal to society back then. Though I enjoyed my play through, I pretty much immediately deleted it to make room for more games.  I couldn't myself wanted by to revisit this anytime soon.

DOOM 4 is done, and what a game it was.

9.3 rating.

Finally managed to finish up Timesplitters 3 on the XBOX.....now I can finally say I've finished all the Timesplitters games. While T2 is definitiely the best one they ever made, T3 has much better controls...it feels like a modern game instead of an N64 leftover. And its got its moments in the campaign, but overall lacks the charm that T2 had. Would have been interesting to see if they could have recaptured the magic in T4. Although it seems like with T3 its the point in time where Free Radical started going downhill.

33. Beat The Division - 5/10

I Beat Wasdie Game 2016!!!!!

All things considered the game has its moments. It's a very visually pleasing game if you run it on max settings, shit is a looker. I naturally bump things down, because 60 faps is life. The overall combat has its moments, it's a pretty straight forward cover based shooter, just with loot rpg logic, which has its own issues. It's super jarring with how much enemies can take, but the overall play is mostly fine.

The cover mechanics lend themselves to more organic and enjoyable coop play, it's one of the many reasons I think a game like Gears of War is a much better coop game than say something like Halo (it's also a better game period), a lot of the mission designs are like significantly better thought out and designed than I thought it was going to be.

But my expectations were super low, I was just surprised it mixed it up as much as it did (which wasn't a whole lot). I don't care for how Ubisoft does cover based shooters, that point to cover to get there is fine, but it isn't snappy and quick the way Gears of War is. I feel like you're more in control with moving cover to cover in a game like Gears, there is a lot of awkwardness to movement at times to what The Division does.

And really all my main complaints are more or less Destiny complaints: Shit's a fucking loot game, the plot is shit, and a good chunk of it to me has me asking "what does this even do all that well as a game?". I don't understand why John and I got so underleveled for a lot of missions, I feel like that is something that never happened to me in Destiny. Now in Destiny there weren't enough missions for me to just avoid strikes all together, but I did every story mission in that game and the strikes and my level was right in line, if not over leveled. In the case of The Division I was just dealing with I hated doing side missions (because Ubisoft), and as a result John and I were like 3 or 4 levels short of some missions.

Luckily the final 2 missions the scumbag known as Wasdie said he'd join to get us over the finish line, so Wasdie, John, and myself beat the game with their two level 30s, and me doing a whole lot of jack shit. I don't know, not converted on these type of games, but unlike Destiny I didn't hate it completely. Just enough that I wanted the game to end already so I could uninstall it. Which I did.

Just beat Ryse: Son of Rome. The game looks amazing. Gameplay is pretty solid however it's also pretty shallow and can get monotonous. Story was ok. Overall a fair game that despite its shallowness can be a bit of brutal fun. 6.5/10

Beat Bayonetta2. Inferior to the original in all but colour gamut.  I just beat it and already I remember less of it than of the original I played last year.  The game seemed easier, had less sexual inuendo, the main song is less memorable, Hell and the demon designs were much less interesting than the original angelic designs and there's a lack of screen-filling bosses to rival those of the original. There's like 3 bosses in the whole game.  The Sage, the Profet and that one demon queen.  And what's with the demon queen anyway?  She's sorely underdevelloped, as is the rest of Hell.  The Prophet's character design is great, but nothing else matches the heights of the original's designs.  The original angelic designs also visually reflected the virtue they were named after (I'm looking at you Joy), but no such thing for the sequel's designs.

All in all the game was enjoyable, but much less exciting than the original in nearly every respect.  This could also be down to it being a sequel and thus less original, although I think that my assessments still hold true nontheless.

34. Beat Inside - 7/10

35. Beat Snakebird - Play it Tomas - 7/10

36. Beat Bulletstorm - 6/10

So I got it to work when we were humoring it for game of the month, and my lazy ass didn't uninstall it so I powered through and 3 starred the echoes stuff. No crashes until Act 5, where it crashes everytime you die. But the solution to that is you get a window during your dying animation to hit pause, and restart the checkpoint. So that's how I got out of the game crashing. Thanks Games for Windows Live.

Anyway core game is solid, if doesn't come together as well as it should. I like a lot of the weapons, the nail launcher has this drill shit that is super badass, the pistol with the firecracker add on is the shit, the mine launcher wrapper thing is supremely badass, and I'm all for any game that believes in a quadruple barrled shotgun. The skillshot system is a cool hook, because I do want Devil May Cry the FPS. Games should reward or encourage me to be a bit more ballsy and show offish with how I take down my enemies.

The thing is that stuff is handled way better in the Echoes mode. Were it not in this game, I'd have a lower opinion of the game. The level design simply doesn't have enough environmental options for skill shots, and the lack of a weapon wheel actually stifles your creativity. I think it's cool that the ammo and charges are bought through you piling on skill point though. That's a nice touch.

The game has an okay, if not all that impressive boss in this plant thing, but the giant beast is super disappointing. Since it's a fucking chopper sequence, the opening of the game is way too lame, the finish of the game is super lame, the character doesn't have legs or feet when you look down, but you do when you do the sliding kick thing, so I guess I take this as he looks down at a 90 degree angle, cinematic walking is the fucking worst, Fuck you Cliffy B for that one, I don't like how the sniper works, the final group of enemies take all the fun out of the game, and it's mostly an unsatisfying aesthetic.

I've played more underwhelming shit from 2011: Skyward Sword, Uncharted 3, Rage, but the whole time with that campaign I just remember how fucking fun the demo was to this game. And Echoes delivers on that (sans a few stages, the opening desert level is so shit), but the demo level is still the best echoes level sooooooooooooooooooooo shit, also cliff hanger ending? What the fuck Cliffy B?

Gat out of Hell, even worse than Saints Row 4? (I mean, 4/10 is in line with the shitness of 4, but that's beside the point.)

Seriously, though, what was so bad about Gat out of Hell?

It's just a string of side missions from Saints Row 4.

And fuck you Saints Row 4 is fun. It's almost worthy of me not calling it a video game.

Just finished Far Cry 4, really good game. Nice big world to traverse and explore with a ton of activities to do. Solid gameplay and some really nice use of colour to bring the game to life. Story was just ok. 8.5 out of 10.

I have finished the main story of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. I till have the post-game to go through, and some online play with SupremeAC and any other miscreants out there, but I can definitely put a checkmark for this one in the completed column. Lots of improvements from MH3U, but there were also a few step backwards, primarily due to the hardware. I will probably skip Generations because of that (plus I still have a few levels in 3U to go back to, and plenty in 4U so there's no immediate need). If the NX is the hybrid we all now expect, and Monster Hunter makes the expected transition to it, I will be thrilled to finally be able to play this series on a big screen again.

So the stringiest bits of shit from the shit that was Saints Row 4. Fair enough.

And you're right, it's shit, not a videogame. Nyaa

Finished Resident Evil 5 on the Xbox One. Really good game that's hampered by some lousy partner AI and some very clunky cover mechanics which you thankfully don't have to use too often. The item management can be a bit awkward as well. Other then that it plays quite well, looks good, and has a good deal of action. Solid 8.5 out of 10.
