I think it was Xbox 360 hands down. It was the best designed hardware, outside of the RROD problems early on. Got all the best versions of games. Had the fastest online service. Best controller. And it had plenty of great exclusives in its own right....in fact I prefer 360's exclusives over Sony's, and I think many people do. Comes down to taste.
Wii had a cool control method, but it wasn't great for all games and the hardware sucked. Missed out on tons of games. Got shittons of shovelware.
PS3 was like a crappy version of the 360 with inferior multi-plats, a piece of shit controller, and an online service that took forever to do what 360 would do in a few seconds.
XBOX 360 was just the most complete console. It was the one designed most like what the evolution of consoles of that era should have been. Its also the only one that stayed relevant for 10 years. PS3 came out a year later and is already even deader than the 360 is.
I was sort of siding with the 360. Need some more accurate final sales figures though. Wii was such a public spectacle though I will forever remember it for invading the public consciousness, getting all sorts of people involved in gaming, and spawning a large number of unique and memorable exclusive games on it. Regardless of how it tapered off in its final years it came out with such a bang, its explosion echoed around for years to come.
To declare PS3 as the Winner you would have to an eternal optimist? It might be someone's favourite console I wouldn't question that but in relation to the library + sales etc?
I don't really care about sales personally. The masses have proved to be asses time and again, so popularity doesn't mean much to me in any form of entertainment. Sometimes it can tell you how great something was...more often than not, it doesn't.
What's 360 ltd sales? I heard it surged after Kinect and the console lasted longer.
How many people honestly enjoyed the Wii more than the other consoles? Outside of diehard Nintendo fanboys which as the Wii U shows is only about 10 million people?
PS4 won worldwide sales, 360 won the west (amongst gamers).
But Wii eclipsed all in total sales, but lost ground in influence due to lack of HD.
For me? PS4 won on the basis of region locking, otherwise I'd ahve just as many 360 games as PS4.
Wii just looked horrible on HDTV's, and that became the defining distinction of the last gen.

I did.
I got a lot more unique, quirky and memorable experiences on it. They weren't as polished or big budget compared to the 360 games on offer but their uniqueness ultimately made them more enjoyable as a whole. I would suspect that there were a lot of casuals who enjoyed the Wii more than the other consoles too because it's probably the only console with games simple enough for them to play like Wii Sports or lightgun shooters.

Why do you keep saying PS4 and not 3?

I did, at least up until 2010. To that point it had amazing 1st party games and pretty solid 3rd party support, and even a few gems via WiiWare. Once 2011 hit the system was an utter wasteland though. I can't think of more than a half dozen games decent games that came out in its final 2 years. Those last two years definitely sour my perception of the system.
Who won? I don't even undertstand the question. Who won what? Anyway. I have all three consoles and healthy game libraries for all three which I will enjoy for years to come all things being equal. So ...

Without this discussion the entire online community would collapse into itself inside out then reverse into a giant floating anus in space.
We the people won.
and I've been callnig the PS3 the PS4 ever since MS started calling the XB3 the XB1.

That's what they flew through in Interstellar, the aliens made this massive anus to spy on the gaming forums. Only to realise they were looking at another anus.

That's just what grandma always said.
It was clear the PS2 won its era.
But last gen? How do you base it? 360 made a late comeback and has a great library of games, Wii defined the era with its motion controls and crazy popularity, then there are some who love the PS3 the most because of its exclusives.
Who won? If you wer to put aside your own feelings and base it on sales + library and/or general sentiment.
