You get about 10 points for a win so you can rank up pretty quickly, you're pretty good so you just need to recon the maps, choose the ones you're most likely to win on and avoid the modes and maps you're no good on. I do better on Rainmaker myself and tend to avoid most splatzones because the timer can run down very fast and matches are harder to turn around.

These days I typically get to play Splatoon once a week, Splathours on Saturdays not included. That does not leave much room to be picky about which ranked battles you chose to partake in. Recently started using the Custom Dual Squelcher again, and loving the extra range. Completely transforms how you approach levels. Sure, I lose my precious splatwall, but with a range like that I notice I don't really miss it.
edit: by the way, did you see the perk calculator I linked to here a while ago? Very usefull.

I'm not sure how that perk calculator works exactly. One thing I learned after using the Dual Squelcher is that the 96 gal has the same range, but less accuracy and fire rate. But it does have a splash wall.

Something I noticed, there's no cheating when it comes to rank. Told you about losing points if your internet craps out. So I wondered if turning your U off mid-match would affect things as I saw someone on Miiverse saying he did it as a laugh. And, yep the game still deducted points from my rank for power loss. There's no cheating here.
Except for some Rainmaker scumbags essentially ball hogging in the last minute. Or Kamikaze-ing into water so the Rainmaker goes back to the center of the map.
Another high score in turf wars, 1460..... on the losing team which if my math is correct is 1760 if my team won and we got the 300p bonus.
Had some good ranked matches today. Splat zones on Arowana Mall and Something-something skateparc. Pitty I lost my last 2 matches though, that really messed up my score.

Who said anything about other weapons? .52Gal baby! I messed around with the custom dual squelcher, and while I like playing with it, the results I achieve are just notably worse.
When I stopped caring about where I placed in turf wars and began experimenting with weapons I cut loose and had a lot of fun. Since then they've nerfed rollers of course. 
Which was the perfect chill out LOL weapon.
I thought it was European splatfest today so I didn't bring my u home.
