I don't agree that they're similar to chargers and scopes.  with chargers and scopes, proximity to the foe or some form of aiming is required respectively.  With the splatling, you can keep at a nice distance, out of reach of many of the other weapons and just shoot your load without having to worry much about trivialities like aiming, since you can just carpet bomb the top of the tower.

You need to aim decentely with the Splatling too, although the spray is wide you can often miss someone you are aiming directly at depending on distance. And you are very vunerable to scoped weapons too.

So I'm thinking of setting a password for the Splathour, so my other U friends don't jump in and block out VGpressers? Do you think this is a good idea?

Was playing some ranked matches Tower Control yesterday and I got matched with a team of idiots a couple of times.  What's the point in taking in strategic positions when that means there's no one left to defend the tower?  angry  Anyway, I was about to give up and was going to give it one more try.  I was on fire!  I singlehandedly rode and protected the tower from the center to a couple of feet away from the goal.  It was as if I was invincible, swatting inklings as if they were no more than mere cuttlefish.  After that my fortunes improved and I got matched with better teams.

On a sidenote, camp triggerfish's tower control mode is just as challenging as the map itself.  the guy riding the tower has no means of escape if he comes under fire and there's limited opportunity to get on to the tower as well.

I think suction bombs should be banned on tower control. It's a one hit win button.

Speaking of Tower Control, maybe once or twice have I been on a team where people know what to do (I don't, but that's beside the point), and 30% of the time neither team seems to have any idea what to do. Seems pretty awkward so far. Not a fan. Oh, and I've only ever played two maps on it. Thanks rotation system.

What's there to know? Jump on the tower and shoot for your life till you reach the end.

If you look at the ground there is a line which shows the path which the tower will follow.

See, the teams that thrash the other in my experience usually don't do that; they'll have one person on the tower at the most, with the others in good positions on the map killing everyone. The dude on the tower just stands there doing nothing for the most part. However me observing this an being able to do it are two different things.

This is indeed how it should be done.  The instances I was referring to was when my teammates wanted to do this, taking up key locations further on the map, while failing to recognize that most of the opposing team were still duking it out close to the tower, leaving my teammates to stand around while I got slaughtered as I tried to stop the tower from advancing to our goal.  Hrm

In my experience the team that wins is the one that all jump on the tower then continue to super jump on it from respawning.

...  I think we should reconsider this VGPress squad thing  cool

In all seriousness though, that might get you so far, and I have applied this advanced 'technique' myself to cross the last small gap to the goal, but trying to keep the competition from even reaching the tower is a safer tactic in my opinion.  It all depends on the stage though, as in some it's near impossible to cover all the points of entry to the tower as it moves by.

So the penny just dropped, and I did decently today. I think you're both right, it just depends on the map. In the skatepark, lots of people on the tower=instant fail because there was so much room for people to move in, and the tower was so open. In the, ahem, tower level, the tower was protected by the different levels of the map, and the thin areas in which the defending team could try and kill you if you were on it, made them easy to repel. So it was always useful on that level to have 2 people (at least) on it as those 2 people were either equally matched against anyone trying to kill them, or actually had an advantage depending on how high the tower was in relation to the map. Plus, they could hide pretty easily behind the post on the tower due to the narrowness of the map. The other two were just on clean up duty/on stand-by to replace anyone dying on the tower.

I saw recently, video proof that the tower moves faster with more people on it, so piling on does work. Other times, it's worth flanking the enemy with ninja squid, as they are all focused on the tower you can surprise them. The thing I hate most is when the tower is unoccupied and teamates either stand around or waste time doing pointless things. There was this bastard SonicZero on the other team, he got 20 kills, he was so focused on killing people. He lost all the matches I played against him in tower mode and I came out top. I laughed my ass off.

I just played online I'm half way to level 10. I just saw a level 30 player tea-bagging in Splatoon. That person should be playing call of duty.

How do you even do that? There's no crouch button.

They just kept changing into squid form and back to inkling form for a few seconds. I know they weren't refilling their ink because they did that everytime they splatted an enemy.
