I debated with myself wether I should have gotten Kirby instead of Pokemon as part of the 2+1 free deal yesterday. In the end Pokemon won, mostly due to my assumption that Pokemon won't ever drop in price, and Kirby already being €5 cheaper which would have led to smaller gains as part of the deal.
Pretty good list Leo.
I'm not sure I could even do a Top 10. Most of the games I played this year were older games. And next year will be the same. Gonna try my best to rid myself of this backlog once and for all.
phantom_leo said:03. Bayonetta 2 -- If I were a millenial gamer, this would be my GOTY. The improved combat system, the breathtaking graphics and completely over the top enemy encounters... The very fact that this game even exists on the Wii U... Bayonetta also happens to be my absolute favorite new character created in many, many years. There's so much more that gets figured into what makes a game a favorite of mine than just the game itself though. Although this game teeters on perfection, there are two more that mean more to me. If I could make it a three way tie, I would, but I'm not one to be wishy-washy like that!
Good list (at least in terms of writing and explaining yourself. I am up to this part. What do you mean , "If I were a millenial gamer this would be my number one..."?

I like your number 2 choice best and agree with your summary. Since I have never liked Smash I can't relate with #1.

If I was born around the year 2000, I wouldn't care about 8-bit games, or Pac Man, Donkey Kong or possibly even Nintendo as a company. I would be into 3D games more than side-scrollers. I would not have owned an NES or SNES most likely, as a Playstation probably would have been my first system and all the things both Shovel Knight and Smash Bros. celebrate would be meaningless to me.
Bayonetta is a better game to play, but SK and Smash have more meaning behind them to me...
01. Super Smash Bros. Wii U -- If Shovel Knight is a reminder of one perfect moment in time, Smash Bros. is a game that celebrates whole generations at a time. From humble beginnings to recent additions to Nintendo's franchises, almost all the major players are in there. From Pac Man to Donkey Kong; Mario, Metroid, Kid Icarus to Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing. Sonic is in there, and, yes, my beloved Megaman. The most important heroes from my most cherished generations of gaming all together in one game. I could literally play with the sound test for hours and reminisce happily. This is not just a game, this is a meticulous celebration of gaming on a disc. Not only are scores of characters represented here either as trophies, assists or playable characters... They look as they should, act as they should. Even Megaman's animations are based on his 8-bit counterpart's. That is amazing! He fires his buster, he jumps, slides and has sub-weapons straight out of his best games. Smash Bros. is a love-letter to gamers of all ages and I can't help but be awed by it! The 3DS version was great, but it wasn't for me. This is a game that needs to be BIG and BOLD and on an HD screen! You need to play and share this game with as many people as you can, either in your home or online. You need a DISC to fit all the music pieces; I cannot stress just HOW much the selection of songs thrills me! The animation brings you back, the music brings you back; you quite literally become a child again, playing this game, and Smash Bros. makes the PERFECT toy-box! Who would win in a fight? Samus Aran or Megaman? Who's the greater mascot? Mario or Sonic? Playing this game is like grabbing your favorite action figures out of your toy-box and having a battle royale! Stuffed with modes. Armed with collectibles to unlock for months. FINALLY, there's a stable online system in place. There's just sooo much content, I can hardly think of a game in recent times that deserves to be a GOTY more than this one! This is so much more than "just" a Nintendo fighting game. This is a playable history of some of gaming's brightest stars and biggest moments. Games like this come along only once in a generation. As great as Mario Kart 8 was, as good as the Legend of Zelda will be on Wii U; they are merely great games. Smash Bros. is everything that is great about GAMING past, present and future, and absolutely runs away with my GOTY award for 2014! This wasn't even close!
