I've toyed with the idea of letting the nephews try some gaming but whenever the idea hits me, I can't help but think about how destructive they are. And how relatively un-coordinated they are.

How did you or your friends/family introduce gaming to their kids? Any good stories?

So far all my nephews have tried is Rhythm Heaven Wii because it's virtually a one button game and even if you're bad at it you still get to watch the scene play out.

I'm thinking, avoid portables as they'll smash them to bits, stick to Wii motion based games like Mario Kart tilting? Also the reading comprehension isn't great so that limits what they can play. Any suggestions?

I let my nephew play some NES games with me when he was around two or three years old.

He wasn't that good at video games until he got to be about six years old.

SUPER MARIO MAKER LEVELS:

  • SMB Mix-Up! (1AB2-0000-0047-5A7D)
  • Storm the Castle (77BD-0000-00E0-A9C0)

Like original 80s NES or NES games emulated on Wii/U?

Original NES not emulated. I purchased an NES in 2005 because my mom gave away my old one in the 90s along with all my NES games.

Super Mario Galaxy.

That's...pretty much it. You can't miss.

You should start them off with GTA 5.

I started my son off with Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Music and such. Any good slightly easy 2D platformer is good too. Stay away from Mario, but Yoshi Story on the N64 is perfect.

Mario, Mario, Mario.  My son started with NSMB on DS. Easy way to let him play on the go when we went on trips.  Don't try this whole driving through the mountains though.  He got sick and threw up.  He loves Mario and Zelda though he really doesn't have a clue what happens on that one.

My 3 year old son just managed to beat his first level in 3d World last week.  I started him on that since he really likes Mario as a character.  I raised him well Happy

How old were your kids before they could play this competently?

Forgot about Wii Play, I have it somewhere inside a different cardboard cover. That Duck Hunt game might work. I think lightgun games might be good but HOTD and RE wont be suitable.

You weren't worried he'd rip the top off the DS? How old was he?

I'd also like to recommend:

  • the Dead or Alive game including the beach volleyball ones
  • Bayonetta
  • Bullet Storm
  • Lollipop Chainsaw

Shadows of the Damned, Lollipop Chainsaw and Killer is Dead are not Suda games.  He is just executive producer ... which basically means fuck all.  Kind of like Quentin Tarantino presents ... Hostel

Why on earth would you want to compare anything to No More Heroes 2?  That game was an abomination of a sequel.  The original was so much better.

Kids don't need to play stuff competently. They play shit for fun.

Rhythm Heaven on the other side, would seem a bit of a drag for small kids because the difficulty ramps up considerably after a few levels. By mid-game you have to be a fucking savant to get shit done.
