For the record I'm a baseball fan.  It's a sport that actually requires skill.  You don't have to kick a large ball into a huge open goal defended by a guy that takes up about 10% of the space.  Yeah that's real tough.  Baseball is all about strategy, reflexes, grace, and the ability to handle pressure both one on one and as a group.  Nothing else offers that.

Baseball is boring as hell. Most of the time you are watching chubby man chew some digusting stuff, and yet they are all roided up. There are many pauses in the game, it does have a flow, and playing it is equally boring. WTF you have to wait for your turn? So basically your are just sitting on your arse the whole time. The field side is almost as boring as well, long moments of boredom followed by short moment of activity. The most exiting part of a baseball match is ordering your food.

Football required skill, you need to be able to pass the ball to other players, with the defender intercepting it. Doing stuff with you feet is more harder than with your hand because arm are more accurate than legs. And running with the ball is hard because it is not stuck to your leg. And scoring a goal is not easy, that's why you see many 1-0 victories, but that has also to do with pussy defending play. The only thing that ruins football.

defence is part of the game and so it should be.  if a team is not good enough to break a defence apart then that's just tough, but fair.  the thing that ruins football is bad refereeing.  there's not one reason why they couldn't or shouldn't have video refereeing

dvader man you crack me up so bad.  watch rugby, it's like handegg but for men.  NFL pussies wear padding on everything.

and hockey is not what you think.  that's ice-hockey.  do you have real hockey in the US?

and football is the best sport in the world, to watch and to play.  that's why it's so popular.  the only bad thing about football which needs to change is the refereeing.  it needs video refereeing and fast because as it is now it allows for stupid bias and mistakes to judge games and that is not right.  there is no reason why there couldn't be video refereeing and it's stupid they haven't implemented it alread

Yes I know handegg is the best sport in the world, football is what sucks ass. Nyaa

European site (the timezone is GG's) so European terms.

Do you know why the NFL wears pads... casue they would DIE if they did not. These are not tiny skinny white dudes humping each other in a pile, these hits would kill a person if they did not have helmets or padding. The average NFL player loses about 15 years off their life expectancy cause of the damage they take throughout their career. Good lord, talking about Rugby...seriously.

No, that is Bullshit. Rugby skinny white dudes, have you seen the team from New Zealand? Those guys are not skinny, you are calling maori's skinny.

And dieing? So why do people not die in a MMA match. Why did Fedor not die when someone threw him on his head? Why did the japneses guy not die when someone else slammed his face first on the ground? Why did Big Nog die when a huge ex-handegg player picked him up and piledrived him multiple times?

Dvader said:

Yes of course its ice hockey, there is land hockey? It must suck, like football.

Yes, but it is for the stuck up rich kids. Do not like it, but it is scary to play. You have no protection and you have madmen swinging with sticks at you. The only good thing is that women Hockey is also quite popular and some of those chicks are smoking.

No I mean that many teams play to keep the zero and not to win. Sometimes you have boring matches because of it, how many times do you see both team affraid of attacking? Chelsea was playing pussy football, good thing Liverpool scored two goals, forcing them to attack. You get the best football if both team are going for it. Football would be a lot better if people had the attitude "if he scores I will score one more" instead of "he better not score and if he makes a mistake I will score".

You know here in England where Baseball was invented (yes) it is called Rounders and it's a game you play as a kid with a bat and ball. We laugh at your sport. Nyaa

BTW I was the Captain of the Rounders team in school!

LOL That's when injuries delay the game so it makes sure the full 90 minutes is played on the field.

I'm quite aware that baseball had its origins in England, but like most things that come out of England, you need America to fix and turn it into something decent. . . like French Fries.

You can have your little misconceptions about the beautiful game of baseball.  Watching a guy hurl a ball at a 100 miles an hour with pinpoint accuracy will always be more exciting to me than a big ball getting kicked into a huge goal, and still not being able to do it right - thus producing 0 - 1 games.

That's actually how the girls play it here. We also give them a bigger ball and call it softball.  In America we use softball to give the ugly girls something to do and keep them away from the hot ones.

So some are big, and many look like average atheletic dudes. They dont look like huge Hulk monsters which some of NFL players do. These guys dont have the skill that the NFL players do, they dont run as fast, they are not as strong. Padding is nesessary on that sport, rugby is basically the pickup games of football you and your pals have in the park where you takle each other without pads.

I doesn't have to do as much with money as it does with what is simple to learn. Soccer is as basic as it gets. I watched some Rugby, it looks like disorganized handegg, all the rules that make our sport awesome is gone and its basically kill the man with the ball. Its like school yard sports, its the crap you play in elementary school.  It wouldn't surprise me if you guys had a dodgeball league.  In some places it can be about money cause some countries wont invest in a handegg field with field goal posts or with pads bought for all 52 players. Its not as easy as throwing up two nets and adding a ball to a patch of grass. Plus it has to do with what the youth watches, if the only sport on TV is soccer that kid will want to grow up playing soccer. In the US the youth wants to be a handegg star or a basketball star or a baseball star, cause its what they watch and what makes money.  There are a lot of factors, the same can be said about us and soccer, we dont pay much attention it so we dont care about it, which is true but at least we try. We have our own crappy soccer league, there are a ton of youth soccer programs around, ESPN covers this tournament and the world cup. We have tried it many many times and we keep rejecting it cause to most of us its boring.

Is there a NFL player who could stand up to jonah lomu?  even with all his padding and helmet and cup ...

in handegg you pass the ball forward which defeats the whole purpose.  in rugby you cannot throw forward ... every yard, every inch is hard fought for.  most rugby players have broken noses, lost teeth and wrecked finger joints.  it's no pick up game of football in the park with your friends.  to each his own i guess, like you say about football, personally i couldn't stand to watch handegg because it was just boring to me, so i will not claim to understand whatever subtleties make it good but i'll take your word for it.  however, dissing rugby and footie for no good reason is a big no no Nyaa

also, you have to admit it's a posh kid's sport.  i know there are instances of rare talent who are in it because they are just great however the price of entry excludes a lot of athletes automatically.  many of the best athletes will never get to try it.  so you're left with college jocks (making a generalisation to make a point, as i said i know it doesn't speak for everyone).  whereas any poor neighbourhood kid can find a ball and kick it around and have a chance.  that is why ...

and

own your best NFL boys.

Much in the same way that any kid (with two legs) can run as fast as they can and have a chance at competing, but very few have the money for swimming lessons or tennis lessons from the age of 6 and all the necessary equipment ... and that is why:

is the best athlete in the world and not

(even if both of them smoke pot) Nyaa

So coming from a poor place makes you a better athelete, ok dude. I understand its hard to get into some of the team sports, but not so in the US, if you are talented you will make a team and they will get you through school even if you dont deserve to graduate just cause you have talent. There are teams everywhere, practically ever single high school has a football team, any kid can walk in and try out.

As for that rugby guy, we have NFL players that would eat him for breakfast. I looked at his height and weight, translated to our numbers, he is a huge guy no doubt. But I bet I can go into any NFL team and find a bunch of guys that are as tall and big as him. So I check the Miami Dolphins site, I found over 10 guys that are as tall and as big or bigger than he is. That guy grows on trees in the NFL, he would be average.

And I am dissing the sports cause I feel they are boring, all the other crap about why they are popular is just theories, doesn't mean much. Rugby is sloppy handegg. Soccer is a bunch of people kicking a ball around for an hour and a half. Thats what I see. I totally understand that handegg to you guys must be the most confusing weird sport you have ever seen, cause well it is complicated.

It was you guys that wanted us americans to come into this thread to show disapproval so i did just that. If you want you can go back to enjoy your tournament which is what this thread should be about.

you're taking it all wrong.  this is all good discussion.

how many of the miami dolphins guys who are big as jonah lomu run 100 metres in 10.6s?

by the way he was very nearly signed by the dallas cowboys back in his day, but he chose not to go in the end.  i guess we'll never know what if.

It is a good discussion but you guys have a tourny going on you guys should be enjoying that. There is no where this can go, I dont like soccer, and I doubt I ever will.

That guy could definetly play football. With that speed and size he would be a killer RB. Sadly I cant compare since NFL doesn't measure 100 meter times, we do a 40 yard dash which is much shorter distance. I bet some can match it, some will be close, in the NFL you need to be a good runner.

Don't worry, Deedee. It's all in good fun. Besides, there will be no more matches on this tournament until the 27th. Nyaa

I'll be the first one to admit that all sports require a significant amount of skill to play on a professional level. Even sports I dislike or don't follow too much, like handegg or basketball. I reckon they all need lots of skill and practice to be played at a competitive level, and I respect anyone who likes them, as I'm sure everyone else here does.

I'll just acknowledge one more thing, baseball (no, Robio, i'm not hitting on you) is an unbelievably complex sport that requires skill, concentration, teamwork, and strategy. Anyone who has ever tried to play it, or who has watched a high-level match such as seasons play offs or world series matches can attest to this. Baseball has also a huge following over here, although our league is on a whole different level when compared to MLB. There ar eplaces here in Mexico where baseball is more popular than football.
