What the hell is going on this year? Has anyone else noticed? The world is going nuts. Off the top of my head I can think of the following things that have happened:

  • Japan Tsunami
  • Amy Winehouse dead
  • Greece in financial meltdown
  • American Congress in political financial deadlock
  • Spain, Italy and Ireland economies on the fritz
  • World stocks and shares plummet
  • Norweigen cocksucker kills 80 people
  • In the couple of weeks after there were two separate U.S shootings which killed 20 people
  • Africa/Somali drought and food shortage
  • London riots spreading around the country
  • In the Middle East you have the Arab Spring where it sort of works out in Egypt but in Syria and Bahrain the govt is shooting and assaulting protesters
  • Libya, need I say more?

What else can you think of and why do you think this has all come to a head now?

Amy Winehouse does not belong on that list.

But the Prince William Kate Middleton wedding really helps to balance stuff out.

I agree.  I'm as sympathetic as the next guy, but a self-destructive substance abuser is different to the lives of innocent people affected in the other things listed.  Though I suppose some may say that her songs were a source of joy and hope to a lot of people.  I don't know.

It just feels like such a terrible time all around and there seems no respite

Oh yeah, must not forget the 20 American Special Forces people from the unit that took out Osama, who were shot down and killed in a helicopter, along with 10 other military personnel.

^Hmmm, they don't deserve to be on the list also. They are trained killers that were killed during a war, not the same as all the other stuff you posted.

That unit has about 500 people in it, no-one knows if any on the Osama raid were in that crash (though odds are at least a few were).

As for the other stuff, except for the London and the f*ckheads who held up raising the debt ceiling in the US all the rest of it is pretty normal stuff that happens every year.  For humanity I think the Tsunami in 2004 that knocked out 230 000 people was the worst year we've had for a while. (Unless more people died in the constant hell that is Haiti -- I can't keep up with that poor little place).

A lot of political and economic systems have exceeded their expiration date and there is nothing to replace it.

What year is it next year... dun dun dun!

And yeah Amy does not belong.  Also the US economic crisis is probably what is causing the world economic crisis.

Would you guys stop focusing on Winehouse?

How about all the hacking this year? Sony and Anonymous, Lulzsec and everyone.
