False. Cartoons are way closer to comic books then live action. You could make a cartoon that looks exactly like the comics, plus it is easier to make action scenes that look believable in a cartoon. Also Batman TAS i >>>>>>>> all the movie Batman's put together. This is not up for debate, it is a fact.

Its not the same though. Yes TAS is fantastic, it can tell great stories but its still a cartoon, its not so much that the quality of the story being told cant be as good its just a different animal all together. Just like a book to a movie. Why do so many of us want to see books adapated to film, cause we want to see it be brought to life. Yes I know now with all the CG the movies are almost big cartoons but they still have sets, actual human actors. A movie version of a comic produces a completely different effect than a cartoon, to me a certain sense of wonder and magic that no cartoon can ever match.

Wonder and magic? f you have to resort to that stuff in a discussion you have already lost. Batman as a cartoon looks cool, Batman as a movie looks incredibly cheesy. Some stuff just work better as a cartoon. Comic books are one.

Completely disagree. Dark Knight is considered one of the best movies period, not just comic book movies, actual movies. No batman cartoon even comes close to that.

What? Where did I say anything about that in my post? And what's with this "if done right" that goes by the assumption that everything live action will be done right and that's not the case. But it is a fact that these stories have been done right already, in animation.
travo said:Nolan's Batman was never cheesy.
The fuck is this? Mostly not but Bales throaty Batman voice was the cheesecake factory.

I've witnessed way more wonder and magic in animation recently compared to live action.

This is true. I dont even know why you're debating this Vader when you don't even watch the modern superhero cartoons anyway. Watching a couple of episodes means nothing. Come back when you've watched the entire series of Justice League plus Unlimited or Avatar, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, or Avengers, Exo Squad, Gargolyes etc. When you've seen every DC animated movie. When you've seen every Marvel animated movie. The problem is there is a vast void between what I've seen and you've seen, so it's difficult to reconcile our positions. You're someone who needs to be encouraged to watch animation, I'm someone who watches it as a matter of course.

I agree with Vader. If I'm paying good money to see a movie, is much rather see something that is live action. I guess it's just a matter of preference.

Dont believe me, check EWs top 100 movies of all time list. There it is. I know its just one magazine but its going to appear in top lists a lot.

Its just one of those things where the best animation will never match the best live action for me. It can't. There is no connection with me to the cartoon like there is if its actual people.
On either side of the argument -- Animation can do things and portray things that would simply be impossible with live actors. The EXTREMES animation can take concepts, ideas and the visual portrayal of them cannot be matched. Animation can evoke certain emotions and wonderment that CAN NOT be done with Live Action.
Live Action however... When you are watching something with live actors, if it is done well, there's a 'Suspension of Disbelief' factor that simply cannot be obtained by animation. You get into it SOOO much, your doubting mind shuts off and Hemsworth becomes Thor, Downey becomes Stark and Evans becomes Captain America. What you are watching becomes 'REAL' to your mind and you get 'into' it that much more. When you are watching animation, no matter how good it is, THAT kind of emotion and the believeability factor is impossible.

That is becuse they have not seen Batman TAS. They are just as misguided as you. The Dark Knight is not that good.

It is a matter of bias. Animation can be also very personal. Not all cartoons are Pokemon!

True, but super heroes are cartoony characters in their design and therefore work better in animation. Sure you have some like Iron Man that work well as a movie because Iron Man is somewhat realistic. He is just a guy in a suit. But usually they do have to change things because they would look silly otherwise. X-men is a good example, wolverine does not wear his yellow suit, thor does not have his helmet, the Mandarin in Iron Man 3 and so on. Concession have to be made. Something that is not necassary in cartoons.

True but does Wolverine need his yellow suit. Hugh Jackman is Wolverine to me now. I grew up watching the X-men cartoon, I have seen a few episodes of the Wolverine xmen show, I've read the comics... Hugh Jackman IS Wolverine. Same with RDJ, he is Iron Man. Its actual human, not a drawn up thing that can never reach the same level of acting that a human actor can convey.
And as for your Dark Knight opinion, thats fine not everyone needs to like it. I am simply saying the general consensus is that its the best superhero movie and it was so well recieved it was on many critics top movies list. Ask around, many people LOVE that movie. You can be against it all you want, more people love it than don't.
I --LOVED-- the Dark Knight; in my Top Twenty-Five for movies, I would say...
I --ABSOLUTELY FUCKIN' H-A-T-E-D-- Rises. Story. Acting. Bane's and Bale's RIDICULOUS VOICES.
HATED.
HATED.
HATED!
Ended the trilogy on a low-note.
...and, truthfully, I don't remember the original all that much. Knight **Ledger's Joker** was the one that left the biggest impression on me.
Everyone has seen TAS. I watch it at least five times a week with my son. It's an awesome show...but not as good as TDK.
Batman is adolescent, corny bullshit in any medium.

"With a career-best performance by Nick Cheung, a script infused with great humor and MMA scenes that will please action fanboys, this sports drama is Dante Lam’s best film since The Beast Stalker and easily his most purely enjoyable to date. Unbeatable offers nothing new, but it’s solid genre entertainment."

Review: SNOWPIERCER Fires On All Cylinders
"Following the disappointment of Kim Jee-woon's The Last Stand and the lukewarm reception of Park Chan-wook's meticulous chamber piece Stoker, Bong Joon-ho has created with Snowpiercer the most accomplished overseas work of any Korean filmmaker to-date. While it remains to be seen whether or not mainstream western audiences will embrace Bong's dark and ferocious genre film, in many ways he's already beaten Hollywood at its own game. A tour de force of science fiction, Snowpiercer is a singular and breathtaking cinematic experience."

I'm really hoping they're just using the name (in fairness it is a good name), but that just boggles my mind. At least to the core comic audience this is like coming out with a new fantastic ice cream and calling it "nutty diarrhea surprise." Then again, as these movies go by they do care less and less about the core comic audience, so likely they're just going with the name.
