Dvader said:Ok but I think you are kind of doing the whole its slightly different therefore its not a true game thing. Sunshine was a major entry into the series, I don't see how Sunshine is not part of the main series, it is. The portable games are always tricky but I feel they should fit.
Sunshine isn't part of the main series because it doesn't have Goombas, and, well, Mario's on vacation for crying out loud!

Its Mario, story doesn't count. It was a true Mario sequel, it was the second 3D Mario after 64, there is no other way to see it.It was an experimental Mario game but still a Mario game.

Experimental = offshoot!

Not unless its specifically stated this is a side game. Its still Mario, you run, jump, fight Bowser, etc.
So, not to stir the pot here or anything, but Vade -- is Peace Walker a true part of the MGS series (to you)?
I mean it clearly is given that Kojima says it is MGS5, but I wonder if it is to you?
And what about the MGS card games that previously came out on the PSP?

it was a sales ploy ... kojima was lying
Dvader said:Now that I said all this about true games in a series what do you guys feel is the list of true Super Mario games. You would include the Mario Land games in there correct. What about Yoshi's Island, the original was called Super Mario World 2. But the sequel was just called Yoshi's Island 2, and both games play very differently from a Mario game and you don't even control Mario. You can look at it as Yoshi's Island spun off from Mario, it gets confusing there. Maybe leave it off all together. So whats the consensus on the Super Mario franchise.
This is what Wikipedia has, it has SMW2 but not YI2:
- Super Mario Bros
- SMB2
- SMB3
Super Mario LandSML2- SMW
SMW2 Yoshi's Island- Mario 64
- Sunshine
- NSMB
- Galaxy
- NSMBW
- Galaxy 2

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobileOkami is not unique at all.

Dvader said:Across message boards I hear it time and time again, "its a good game but not a true game in the series." It happens with a lot of frachises, mainly Resident Evil, which drives me nuts. Just now Steel decided to claim that all Castlevania's that are Metroid like are side-games, yeah NO.

If it is of any consolation, I think Shattered Memories is more of a SH title than the Metroidvanias are CV titles.

Yes for sure it is. PO and PW are part of the main franchise. Acid is not, its a card game.

No, and I probably won't.
Listen to Iced Earth and play Doom
Coopersville said:I'm willing to believe RE4 is canon as long as RE: Gaiden, and every single other entry is.
Everything in RE is canon, they have never made a non canon game. They have retconned some stuff that is for sure. This is more about which games fit in the main series.
Nintendo answered our SMB series question. They have a tribute video celebrating 25 years of SMB.
The go through the series history, it is:
SMB1, SMB2, SMB3, SMW, SM64, SMS, SMG, NSMB DS, SMG, NSMB Wii and SMG2.
No SMW2 or the SML games. SMB2 Japan is missing, SMB2 NA is the true SMB2 now. That is official from Nintendo.
So I say the main Resident Evil series is:
