Old timers of the VGPress, hows your vision? Over the last couple of years, my eyes have developed astigmatism and it sucks. The astigmatism isn't bad enough where I can wear special contacts to correct so I now have two pairs of readers. Reading simple cooking instructions is such a pain now. Plus every time I wear my reading glasses, I fear people view me like this:

We use eyes to play video games. Overruled!
going for an eye exam in a week. I've been getting "floaters" little black shit that I notice if I stare at something white. Got to check that out. Other than that i see fine.

I have mild eye floaters. On a white TV screen in the dark I seriously faint squiggles like little sperm floating about.
I've had astigmatism for years but see perfectly clearly with glasses. I have found reading tiny text more annoying lately but part of the reason is that I marvel at the way products have sought to make text so small you need to photo and magnify it on your phone.
It'll be interesting to see how the industry changes if MS does go third party. I can see MS releasing their games exclusively on Xbox/PC for a year or two and then releasing them on PS and Nintendo. Games cost so much to make these days, there can't really be true console exclusives anymore (unless you're Nintendo). I'm still kinda surprised to see PS exclusives on PC.
This is a pretty significant moment for gaming. We have been stable in the console realm for the longest time, I think we have had three major consoles for longer than we had the Wild West of consoles before that. So three might become two and those two might start morphing into something different. Physical will be gone at some point, dedicated hardware though is going to remain for some time but it might be more just something to download and stream.
You might like Final Fantasy 10. It was the first Final Fantasy without an open world that encouraged exploration, which the series historically was known for. I thought it was awful because of that. But you might actually appreciate that it is extremely linear and story focused.

FFX was my starting point with the series and I really enjoyed it.
I watched a review last night. It looked okay, but annoying you have to swap characters for even levelling.

It's kind of funny that you compared it to the Wild West. That era lasted about 30 years. We've pretty much had three consoles to choose from since the mid 80s. The players have changed a couple times with Atari and Sega fitting in at various points, but it's always been a three company marketplace, for almost 40 years.

It's actually not too big of a problem. If I recall. You can swap characters in the middle of battle, and oftentimes that's even necessary as each character has particular strengths and weaknesses against different enemy categories. So changing the characters is baked into the combat itself, and doesn't really feel like you're being forced to rotate people in and out just to keep everyone at an equal level.
Yeah, I would definitely recommend Final Fantasy X. FFXII is a bit of a different beast. Also enjoyed FFXIII.
Too up it's own ass.

Our eyes are so bad we can't even tell what forum we're in.
A new Game Under Podcast approaches with a special guest from this very forum site.
It's never occurred to me but I should have shared by ROblox name on here for you guys... after all these years on Roblox, silly me.
PhilFoggGameUnder if you guys need to find me.
Steam is having a next fest with a ton of demos. Download Balatro, it's a poker roguelike. Thank me later.
