25.09.23 - Since its launch, Game Pass has become a central part of Microsoft's strategy. As a result, the company became much more platform-independent. However, Jim Ryan, the CEO and president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, is critical of a Game Pass business model.
Now, a 2022 question-and-answer session between Ryan and analysts has been released, which surfaced through the recent Microsoft leak. During the Q&A session, when asked about Microsoft's Game Pass efforts, Ryan replied that Microsoft's original approach "didn't work at all," which "led them to make big company acquisitions."
Ryan added that publishers in the industry had told them that they considered Game Pass to be "value-crushing" – not just for individual game releases, but for the industry as a whole. He also touched on Microsoft's latest update to Game Pass subscribers. She was at 2022 million in January 25 Ryan said that he thought PlayStation Plus was a "more meaningful" service, with almost 50 million subscribers.
"I can say with great certainty that Microsoft tried the first way and it didn't work at all. That's what drove them to make this big acquisition," Ryan said. "I've spoken to all the publishers and they're unanimously against Game Pass because it's value-destroying not just for individual games, but for the industry as a whole. Yesterday I picked up a copy of The Unofficial Zelda Cookbook," which is basically an attempt to recreate a lot of the dishes that you make in Breath of the Wild.
Unfortunately these dishes are largely out of my reach either due to the skill required to make them, the difficulty of finding the ingredients, or just the general cost of being gradients.
And on a separate note, at 46 years old, I still can't entirely recognize what risotto and curry are.
This weekend I almost completely ignored Starfield and played RE4 Separate Ways and MK1. Separate Ways is the greatest Re expansion ever, by a lot. It's on its own one of the best RE games period, it's longer than RE3 remake. It's only $10! It's incredible! Mostly cause RE4 is incredible so it's more of that. Full review is up.
I finished MK1 story mode, what an absolute blast. The best presentation by a lot, it feels like watching a movie. The story gets absolutely batshit crazy by the end and I loved every second of it. The voice actor for Shang Tsung deserves an award for most asshole voice ever recorded. What a villain.
Why the fuck are the werewolves so bullet spongy at the start of RE Village on hard? Could they really not come up with a more nuanced way to make it difficult? It just makes things feel like a chore, rather than a challenge. 2 head shots to kill with the shotgun unless you get a random crit, and blowing them up doesn't even necessarily kill them instantly. Really? It removes all the satisfaction from the weapons, as well. And the environment also just feels eh; the balance between funnels and open areas doesn't really seem to affect how the enemies behave much (you can just as easily herd them together out in the open as you can between a wall and a house) and it doesn't seem like it has the same detail of RE4 so far, which it's riffing on way, way too much. I hope things improve soon, because so far I'm not really feeling it.
At times it plays like Serious Sam, except at a quarter of the speed and without any of its satisfaction. But I expect much more from the combat scenarios than I do from Serious Sam.
Yep it's weird. RE8 tries to be a strange mix of old and new RE. It succeeds because it's so crazy and out there with its ideas that overall it's a great time. Definitely feels better to shoot when you upgrade stuff. RE4 remake is so much better at action, it's quite the contrast.
Gog has a free download of Daggerfall Unity - Gog Cut. It's Daggerfall with a bunch of graphics and gameplay mods preinstalled and it is fantastic! Looks and plays so much better than the original! PC gaming is the ultimate backwards compatibiity system.

Take two seem to be bringing Red Dead Redemption 2 to switch.
I don't really get their Switch strategy. For instance Borderlands 3 ultimate edition randomly showed up on the eshop a few weeks ago. It's like they will get all their big game out on Switch.... eventually. They'll just take years in some cases to do so.
Meanwhile not releasing the biggest game with the highest sales potential, GTA V. I guess some of these games are remasters launched at the same time A other versions.
What I like about Take two games is that heavily discount them in sales eventually. Although weirdly LA Noire used to frequently drop quite low but never does these days.

On the train it's a Monkey version of Hollywood where sentient monkeys shoot low budget movies.

Take two seem to be bringing Red Dead Redemption 2 to switch.
I don't really get their Switch strategy. For instance Borderlands 3 ultimate edition randomly showed up on the eshop a few weeks ago. It's like they will get all their big game out on Switch.... eventually. They'll just take years in some cases to do so.
Meanwhile not releasing the biggest game with the highest sales potential, GTA V. I guess some of these games are remasters launched at the same time A other versions.
What I like about Take two games is that heavily discount them in sales eventually. Although weirdly LA Noire used to frequently drop quite low but never does these days.

Ubisoft CEO: "Cloud gaming will be as popular as Netflix"
27/09/23 - In an interview with the Financial Times, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot highlighted the promising future of cloud gaming, comparing it to the success of Netflix.
This assessment came shortly after Ubisoft and Microsoft signed a deal focused on cloud streaming. Guillemot predicts that cloud gaming will reach the popularity of Netflix in the future and will experience similar growth.
"When Netflix first announced that it was entering the streaming business, the company's shares plummeted and there was a lot of criticism. Today we see what has become of them. It will be the same with video games, but it will take time. But when it starts, it will happen very quickly," says Guillemot.
