This weekend it’s been all about the stars with Sea of Stars and Starfield. Really enjoying both. Sea of Stars has a very nice art style and fun gameplay mechanics but the story is only so-so. Starfield is definitely what you’d expect from a Bethesda game. Very much a typical Elder Scrolls/Fallout kind of game but in space of course.

New Atari console plays 2600 and 7800 carts.

It's a classy console, but the price point is bananas.

Especially since you can mod the Retron 77 to play all the games for much less.

https://gameunder.net/retron77

Does the Retron 77 support paddle controllers? I read on Atariage forums when it released that it didn't, which was a deal breaker for me.

I will give it a try with my paddles and let you know.

I have:
  • The Ultimate Final Fantasy 14 Cookbook
  • Tomb Raider: The Official Cookbook and Travel Guide
  • My Pokemon Cookbook
  • Hearthstone Innkeeper's Tavern Cookbook

In addition to those, I also have a Dungeons & Dragons cookbook, a Dungeons and Dragons cocktail book, and The Necronomnon, a cthulhu/lovecraft inspired recipe book where recipes you are preparing are written down like a spell or a ritual. In fact, that one is pretty cool, but if it wasn't for the appendix in the back you literally would not know what you're preparing half the time is it gives very creative names to the ingredients and the processes.

Nice. I wouldn’t mind grabbing that FFXIV cookbook.

That's something I'd do, but I'd make them anniversary presents for the little lady.  But I'm classy like that.

finished Skyward Sword.

It's probably in my top 2 Zelda favourites. I don't count the new open world zeldas as they are very different.

I'd forgotten how much fun this game was. All those little things that annoyed me the first time just melted away and the game was almost wholly fun [apart from the drifting gyro]

Now onto either Octopath Traveler 2 or Eastward.

Perfect. Give her a cookbook for an anniversary present, slap her on the ass, and tell her to get in the kitchen.

Octopath Traveler 2 is very good. I wasn't ready to tackle a big RPG when I started playing it, so I didn't last a real long time with it. But even in the first hours I was super impressed.

Did you play the first game? I loved it. Got it instead of Pikmin 4 as I know it will last like 80 hours.

I started Eastward, it feels like playing a long lost gba game.

Art is beautiful, music excellent. Dialogue is very expressive too. Feels like Steamworld or Deponia mixed with Earthbound in atmosphere.

I tried the Octopath Traveler mobile game. Turned it off in minutes, super low res visuals and junky screen ratio on a foldable phone.

Anyone catch the new switch rumours? There's tons of hard-core tech rumors going around on cpu, cores, gpu architecture etc.

Tech nerd sites and YouTube are saying it's not tetra based and has to be a custom chip based on an Nvidia card. Saying it will do Ray tracing better than the other systems. Digital foundry is posting stuff. There's price speculation, $400, release date speculation, Q2 2024.

Even game stuff, Gotham Knights confirmed, other stuff I can't remember. I'm a bit out of it with regards to talking about cpu and gpu cores and compute units.

A few articles are calling it "a beast" even though it will be weaker than ps5 etc, they say Nvidias tech, DLSS 3.5 etc, perhaps frame generation means that games could run better than other systems. The behind the scenes zelda demo had instant loading, was 4k 60fps etc.

Good video on the recent switch 2 rumours.

DLSS looks like voodoo. A 20 fps game with dls 2 goes to 60 fps, dls 3 boosts it to 100 fps. Dls 3.5 has the same 20 fps game at 100 fps with raytracing etc enabled.

I'd take all those rumours with a bucket of salt. The DF article gave a good analogy, stating that if, prior to the Switch reveal, leakers would have said it could run DOOM 2016 and the Witcher 3, people would have thought it to be much more powerfull. The next Switch will be capable of utilizing the latest Unreal5 tech, so it can get its own share of 'impossible ports', but it'll run Nanite, Lumen, etc. at much lower settings.

Witcher 3 on Switch, I did not buy it because either I thought it was one of the games you have to stream or it has a massive download.  ANyone here experienced it on Switch ('cause lord knows I need an excuse to buy a third copy of Witcher 3 I'll never play).

Hrmmm, I was going to sell my boxed Wii U and all the games, but now looking at what it is going on E-Bay looks like it has not gotten a collectors bump yet.  Poor Wii U.  Tonnes of boxed Wii U's not selling at $220.

In fact looking at the whole collector scene on Ebay Australia is grossly depressing! Check this: Keep in mind $100 AUD is $64 USD.
