Going up the funicular railway. Everyone recommended it, but on a Saturday on a week when kids were off the queue was crazy.
After an hour or so of waiting you're accepted to the gate where you rejoin a new queue.
There's stuff to look at at the top but you have to be willing to commit the whole day to it. And most of the areas are quite steep to get to, so anyone with physical problems probably shouldn't bother.
Food is really cheap in Malaysia, like 3x to 10x cheaper than the same dish in London.
I've been to other foodie locations like Hong Kong and Bangkok, but I'd say the availability and price makes this the best place. You can get a great variety of cheap dishes which encourages you to try more.
There's also fresh watermelon (and other juices) on tap for cheap.
But the Durian garages are the best. Imagine a garage like area with some plastic tables. You go in to this little makeshift courtyard and stuff yourself with fresh Durian.
While a cat wanders about between your feet.
Lol at this couple on the mountain today, it smelled the food they bought and followed them incessantly. They tried to ignore it. I saw them 30 mins later and the dog literally sat poibt blank in front of them while they ate.
Personally, I would have been more than happy with a very simple update of the original Factions with some new maps. But it seems something more Grand and potentially more disastrous is on the horizon.
Destiny did not even need to be never ending bullshit.
The food prices are crazy, especially considering the quality (judging by pics, so who knows). A Malaysian friend keeps telling me (and a mutual friend of ours) to visit her, just because of the price of food.
We had a restaurant meal for 6 and it cost £35
At local hawker centres you can buy 3 dishes and a drink for only a few UK pounds. The food here is totally safe to eat, no dodgy roadside stalls.
It's hot as balls today. A 5 min walk had me soaked in sweat and sitting under a tree.
Went to this heritage mansion tour, the toilets are as old as the mansion. You walk into something like a stone horse pen and slide a giant wooden door across and latch with a piece of iron a couple of hundred years old.
The problem came when the door jammed and wouldn't open all the way. I had to squeeze through a foot width gap with my belly. Almost got trapped.
My brother in law and his wife visited Thailand and said the very same about the food, dirt cheap but great quality. I'd really like to visit one day.
My shirt was soaked with sweat and sticking to me.
My overall impression is that Penang is a beautiful, cheap place with great food, cheap taxis and some luxury shopping places too.
But it's so fricking hot and humid, even compared to Bangkok that it can be very uncomfortable.
And there's always some smug SOB wearing a long sleeve sweater and not breaking a sweat.

I went to change out the dead batteries in my Wii Remote and the AA batteries were corroded. They weren't even that old, maybe six months. It doesn't appear to have damaged the controller. Now I have to figure out how to clean this white acid off. Heh, I've been using alkaine batteries my entire life and I never had this happen before.
Same thing happened to me as well. A couple of months ago went and checked my Wiimote and realized I had left the batteries in. Not sure how long they were in there for though. There’s a bit of white residue in there but not too bad. Still need to try and clean that out though.
