For all the ranting and complaining about that game I've done over the years, I'm a little bit ashamed of you having to ask that.
Limbo is crap, but it came along during that first wave of artsy indie games. It's aesthetics were unique enough that it had a bunch of reviewers completely snowed and got them to kind of forget that the gameplay itself was just atrocious.
So to answer your question, no the game is not supposed to be good.
And now you know that everybody else is wrong and I am right.
In other news I've started The Great Ace Attorney again. Nearing the end of the last case of the first game.
Love the game but it has reams of unnecessary dialogue.
Indeed!
Will probably try this out myself. Looks like some silly fun.
Thevgpress's critical consensus on Limbo and Inside are totally backwards. Aesthetically, Limbo is nothing special. But there are a couple of really great platforming moments in it. Inside, on the other hand, is aesthetically great; without any notable moments in terms of gameplay.
To be honnest, they're both not that great.
Trial and error where you die endlessly. With crappy controls and a dude that can't even swim in 5ft of water.
The camera and controls are pretty bad. You fall off things because of the camera or the controls. Just not fun at all.
The game needs Mario Odyssey like control responsiveness.
Instead you move like a happy drunk.
The camera is the worst thing, always at the wrong angle.
As Raven said, if you're not drunk then you are playing it wrong.
I'm going to have to do a full review or at least some kind of write-up when I'm done. Not to sound like a broken record, but God damn this game is bizarre. Absolutely zero considerations were made with the translation to make it a little more appealing or at least a little more clear for a western audience. This is weird Japanese gaming melodrama at its most pure.
