I decided to start a play through of Mass Effect this weekend (thank you, Game Pass).  It still looks very nice.

I had a sore throat and fatigue last week. Today I have a stuffy nose and aches. Sinus issues or Covid?

Holy shit. He wasn’t that old was he. They that it comes in threes. There was Betty White, Sidney Poitier, and now Bob Saget. Damn. R.I.P.

no, he was only 65. He was actually right here in Orlando too. He had just started doing stand-up again and was staying at a very nice hotel in town where he was found dead.

I hope it's not covid, but yeah it's covid. Everyone is getting the new variant. This reminds me of when I was in elementary school, and there was one week where we had a third of our class out due to some flu that was being passed around.

Agreed.  We were probably one of the last to get the old Delta variant.  We don't need any of that new-fangled Omicron stuff here.

That's no age to go.  I guess it's a symptom of getting older that people appear to die younger and younger.

So what has everyone been playing during the first weekend of 2022?

I've been enjoying Road 96 on Switch.  It's a game where you attempt to reach and cross the border of the totalitarian state you live in.  You don't do any actual travelling, but instead the gameplay consists of story beats at certain places where you'll  meet up and interact with a recurring cast.  Every time you reach the border (or fail to do so), you'll start anew from a different point on the map as a different teen.  It's a clever concept and a decidedly indy game in its limitations.  The only let down is the user interface, where during conversations or for specific actions you drag around a small pointer to onscreen 'choices', which is rather clumsy.

Pro-tip, you can enlarge the clickable tags in the options menu, making it slightly less difficult to accidentally click the wrong choice.

I mostly played Tales of Arise. It’s quite a lengthy game but I’m very much enjoying it. It’s quite a nice looking game with a lot of places to run around in and explore. The combat is tremendously fun. Some very good production values in this Tales of game.

Have also been playing some Halo: Infinite multiplayer as well.

I spent part of my weekend screwing around Puyo Puyo Champions, which is basically an online version of Puyo Pop without any story mode. It has single player options, but really the whole thing is just there so that you can be ranked against other players. I played about 20 rounds of that, and one three I think. I thought I was good, but apparently the only people playing it now are really experienced players in Japan. So, it was pretty ugly.

After giving up on that, I finally moved over to RE Village. Definitely not as scary as VII but definitely seems fun. Finished the opening chapter in the village and just moved on to the castle.

I spent time playing Banjo-Kazooie, Mario Bros. Arcade, Dirt 5, and a tiny bit of Animal Crossing.

Can't remember my funimation password for the TV. When I try to login to funimation website on my phone it keeps opening the fucking app, which I'm already logged into. So I can't get anywhere.

I enjoy twin stick shooters but this one isn’t really one I’d purchase myself. Only really tried it because it was on Game Pass.

It’s a Rogue like so it gets better the more you play I hear.

Ive been playing Asphalt 9,Animal Crossing, Crysis 3 and Enigmatis 3.

I started a play through of Mass Effect, thanks to the Game Pass.  It still holds up fairly well though the menus are sort of clunky.

Still playing Crysis 3.

Overall I think it's the best. It manages to straddle the perfect line between the open plains of the first game and the tight city locations of the second.

It also goes all in on stealth. You can play it like first person Splinter Cell.

There are now more alien weapons to use. There's some decent vehicle use. The story is very good for the genre.

Still playing Final Fantasy adventure.

Think I'm enjoying it more than The Minish Cap just because of how good the music is. That's the only 2D Zelda I've played for comparison.

Horrible. Bob Saget hit me the most, he was THE sitcom dad for my generation. Sad
