So who has August birthdays here? Maybe we need a birthday thread so we can know when to celebrate.

Never did get Kirby’s Epic Yarn but I got similar games with Yoshi’s Woolly World and Yoshi’s Crafted World. I played a bit of them and really enjoyed the relaxed nature of them. Definitely need to get back to them someday and play some more.

Happy Birthday, Hamster!

I was really disappointed by the opening of Doom Eternal, but now I am loving it.

So what have all you birthdayboys been playing this weekend?  I fumbled about with some couch co-op Human Fall Flat, exploded a couple of times while playing 'keep talking and nobody explodes' on the Quest2 and spent the rest of the weekend getting some time in with Psychonauts2.

Found this review for the Leisure Larry Reboot, Wet Dreams Don't Dry which I loved recently. The review is in Russian but I found a bit translated:

"Subversive, sardonic, brimming with wit and a merciless satire of 21st century dating culture. This is the heart and soul of Leisure Suit Larry, updated for the digital age. Extraordinary puzzle design and brilliant writing make Wet Dreams Don't Dry a must-play addition to the Leisure Suit Larry canon. True adventure game fans take note, this is very much the Leisure Suit Larry 8 you've dreamed of and never thought you'd get to actually play"

Played a ton of Asphalt 9 Legends over the weekend

Also been eying up the DLC packs and which one to buy.

I think you have to aim for the pack with the most credits and tokens. Its all very well getting an awesome car(s) unlocked but you might not be able to upgrade them without the cash or blueprints. And if the car is a class A, you can only use it on class A events.

There's tons of stuff to do in this game, you can claim free cards daily (20 cards for one vehicle unlock). There are daily events to earn new cards or tokens. You can play online multiplayer. But there's 5 seasons of singleplayer career mode, with about a dozen grand prix events per season. Just played some Japanese tracks, they really make it a love letter to car manurfactuing. You drive inside futuristic car factories and pop out in parks blooming with cherry blossoms smiley

New York looks amazing, its parade day and there are huge balloons above you. This game is half racing and half awesome tourist game where I can revisit old vacation destinations. Also played this american mid-west track in the middle of a tornado! And then raced in what I assume to be the Grand Canyon.

This game is the car equivalent of Mario Kart, without weapons.

Also started up Bulletstorm again for 5 mins. This is an awesome port, it looks better handheld than any other game I can think of and looks great on the big screen too. Really solid performance and excellent image quality.

I was busy marathoning Psychonauts 2 this past weekend. Beat it yesterday but still have a few things I need to do to 100% it. Excellent game.

In addition to Doom Eternal and Psychonauts 2, I'm checking out Forza Motorsport 7 to see if it's  worth buying before it goes away for ever.

The answer is yes, I just need to decide whether the DLC is worth it.

GG is so committed to adventure gaming now he's reading reviews in other languages, I love it. LOL

I've not gamed much beyond setting up my NES and SNES mini with the games in my collection. Which was sickening (how many I have that I did not know).

My bloody PS4 has gone back to spitting out discs which is killing my Yakuza Like a Dragon gaming. Weird to hink that it first started doing it 6 years ago

And finished the kitchen renovation.  I don;t even want to know how much it cost, but it started in November 2020.

Some games on metacritic have hardly any reviews. I go where I must!

Just Started Edna and Harvey: Harvey's New eyes, sequel to the excellent Edna and Harvey. They've made the decision to have the main playable character mute, so whenever you examine something you have a narrator speaking describing it like a story. Whilst it's a nice idea, every damn item has a longwinded dialogue attached to it. I can see this getting annoying. 🤔

I've been having second thoughts about the Mclassic upscale. Despite it not making every game looking better uniformly, it is quite impressive that it betters a range of games. To see No More Heroes 2 and Dead Space Extraction, even Rabbids Go Home looking more like an HD remaster on an HDTV. It is quite impressive. There are a ton of games it does nothing for, but overall I think its worth it for the 50% of games it does work for. And you have to remember I haven't even been using it in the optimal way.

For instance I've been using a crappy amazon wii hdmi converter with it on a 1080i TV so it's only converting wii games to 720p. It can go to 1080p with the right TV.

And when using it on a 4ktv, it only outputs to 1080p unless your TV has a 2k mode 1440p. Very few tvs do that, you would have to buy a 1440p monitor or a TV capable of that. Then you can play switch in 2k using it.

However I think one of the best ways to use it will be with the 360 and PS3. Taking the 720p or sub HD and outputting 1080p.

So I couldn't get the switch to connect to the WiFi upstairs last night. Damn console has crappy WiFi reception.

So I played offline Asphalt Legends where you can play split screen or quick races. Essentially track by track but with no rewards. And I realised I wasn't enjoying it as much in that mode and I realised why.

I should mention I haven't spent a single penny of real money on this game. But what makes the game so rewarding is that the game is always rewarding you, sometimes on a race by race basis with all sorts of different stuff.

You earn in game cash, tokens, tickets, blueprints, trade coins. Basically allowing you to either unlock new cars, upgrade or customise your existing cars, import and use rare parts to improve your car. Even earning the ability to visually customise various parts of the car.

The game is also unlocking new Grand Prix events, each of which is around 10 races long and there around 10 per class. So even though I've been playing like crazy I only unlocked like 12% of single player content and there are 8 or so Grand Prixs I haven't even started. And that's just in season 2. There are 3 more seasons I haven't unlocked. And there are special events to play and club events where its like Splatoon, you all play and if the overall team reaches a certain level you get more rewards.

I also started playing multi player and it's just what I like in that you can't really tell you're playing multi player. Rather AI controlled cars, other humans are playing it. And it unlocks and rewards you so much with all sorts of custom parts and easy cash rewards.

Asphalt 9 uses the same sleazy tricks of any other F2P game to keep you engaged: showering you with a lot of items, of which you need a ton to actually make any progress. The main difference with most F2P games is that the gameplay itself is actually pretty good.

Also rabbuds go home was a fun game. Great loading screen too!

Yeah, the Switch has the worst Wi-fi of any console I've ever owned. And I have my router in the same room. I connected my Switch with a USB Ethernet adapter and it's crap too but at least usable.

that was fun. The premise got a little stale after a while, because the levels didn't really change too much, but in short bursts it's fun. And shaking the rabbid in the Wiimote is still one of the funniest things I've ever come across in a video game.
