Why does the switch eshop run like an unresponsive piece of shit? Is it because I have a game in the background?
I think it’s just Nintendo’s online infrastructure. Try running it without a game running in the background, probably won’t make much of a difference though. Perhaps a wired connection would be better then Wi-Fi.
It's because they read all your internet cookies each time you log in to the eshop. All that porn browsing of yours results in something just short of a DDOS attack on their servers.

So I spent a large chunk of my afternoon trying out the Mega Man X Legacy Collection. Couple observations....
1. The series actually peaked with the first entry.
2. God damn are they hard.
3. There are no save states in this! I'm reasonably sure I won't get through most of these because of it.

Oh how true this is. Pretty much the same conclusions I came to as well. Mega Man X is my favourite. Made it through the first two games but got stuck at the final boss of the third and after a LOT of attempts I just kind of gave up on it. May go and try again later on down the road. The thing that pisses me off the most though is that the password saves don’t actually save you at the part just before the final boss if you make there. If you go back again to it later on after a failed attempt and input the password you have to redo all the stages of the final boss areas. This means you need to redo all three final areas, their bosses, the eight maverick refights, and the final boss and his multiple forms. Ugh.
Yeah, I Make it to the boss fights on each level every single time, but I just typically lose most of those fights and then ultimately have to replay the entire level again. I guess it's nice that they opted to maintain the spirit of the original games, but I'm not that gamer anymore. I'm getting older and might die at any minute. I don't have the time to get stuck at a single boss anymore.

That part underwater in Octopus’ stage in Mega Man X where those sub creatures come up from the ground and you have to shoot them a hundred times while they push and pull you with the current while you try not to touch the spikes always makes me want to eat my controller.
Spent the day with the nephew. We played Wii. On a 480p crt. Damn, the controllers kept disconnecting, using decade old rechargeable batteries. And why is it so hard for kids to actually aim at the sensor bar without the cursor drifting off the screen? Can't even hold a steady controlled motion. Mario Galaxy looks a bit assey from how I remembered it. Fuuu, need an HD version. Hotd 3 looked good but is hard as balls. He started playing Indiana Jones. I forgot how fun the Wii was, even games like this are still novel and fun and he loves the motion controls. Then we hooked up Disaster Day of Crisis, still so good. I forgot, my memory of it is that it was mostly on rails but it was mostly free form 3rd person action. Really need a sequel. Gaming on an SDTV again was an experience, actually being able to see every grid square like a mesh on the screen, reminded me of old arcade games. He actually loved Hotd when he's older I can get him on Dead Space Extraction or the Resident Evil games. Also he prefers multilayer games. There's something special about games you can just turn on, not have to learn the controls and jump straight into the action.
