Got back into Breath of the Wild heavily the last few days. This is a game that's very easy to lose track of time with...before I knew it five hours had gone by. And I don't think I had accomplished much of anything.
This game is really perplexing as a Zelda game. It's amazing for what it is; the scale of the world and the attention to detail is astounding. And it borrows all the right elements from the very best open world games while adding it's own. But at the same time, because of the style here it also loses some of what made Zelda what it was. You're definitely not going to get the perfect pace of Twilight Princess here, or the genius dungeon design of Majora's Mask (at least, from what I've seen). And it can be extremely tough to figure out exactly where you should go next, a la Elder Scrolls Morrowind.
But even still, what the game does right, it does insanely well. It's a different take on the series, but no less relevant. I'd say this was the most impressive game visually from 2017 also. Not on a technical level, but what they do here with this graphic style is pretty much taken to the pinnacle of what could be achieved with the hardware. In a way, kind of like Metroid Prime was in 2002.

So what y'all playin' this weekend?
For myself, I'm going to:
I'm on vaca with nothing to do right now, so I'm definitely in gaming mode.
I’ll be playing more Octopath Traveler this weekend. I’ve completed the eight character stories and now have all 12 job classes. Just have some side quests to do and the final dungeon and boss to beat. Might jump back into Xenoblade Chronicles 2 to prep for the upcoming release of Torna.
I actually pre-ordered Torna. Was going to get XC2 but then I saw this is a prequel story to it, and it's cheaper. So I'll start here. Amazon is enacting their lame new anti preorder policy on the 28th, but they said anything you preorder before then will still get the 20% off. So I went on a bit of a preorder spree.
Greatest metroidvania that's not named metroid or vania. So yes.
But yeah it can be tough.

I started playing God of War (201 yesterday afternoon.
I'm pretty close to finishing up Guacamelee. Probably will start something else, but not sure what just yet. Whatever it is, it would just need to last me about 2 weeks until I get to dive into DQ11.

Just noticed two games releasing this year that I didn't realize!
Had no idea....the fall just got more expensive.

Oh interesting...guy comparing Ys 8 and Xenoblade 2.
I played very little this weekend. Just some Kingdom Hearts 2.
