Shin Megami Tensei IV: Apocalypse (8.5) GREAT! Review

Apocalypse is getting great reviews all the way around.  Very happy to hear it. Not sure if I'll be grabbing this or DQ 7 next, but my 3DS will definitely be getting some use in the not-too-distant future. Unless of course The Evil Within is suddenly compatible with the Wii U.

I've had long term knee pain for quite a while.  Stubborn ol' me would never go see a doctor about it.  I kept putting it off, not another doctor's bill, I'll go next month, etc.  I finally went today and discovered it's my hip that has arthritis.  The hip is referring the pain to my knee.  Some day, I'm going to need a hip replacement.  Maybe not this year, maybe not next year, but some day.  He says as long as my knee isn't painful enough to keep me from work or other activities, I should hold off.  It sucks but at least I can still move, with a little help from a knee brace.  Some things are difficult.  I can't tie my left shoe without standing, I have to swivel around to get out of the car and steps are my enemy. I'll never be able to run again.  But it's not at that intolerable point yet.  We'll see.

Yeah GameSpot gave SMTIV: Apocalypse a 9. I want this and DQ7 as well. Too many games!

Up until this year I would have said you could probably have skipped the 3DS, but it's had as good of a year as any system. New and well reviewed Monster Hunter, Kirby, Phoenix Wright, Zero Escape, and Style Savvy (hey play it if you like, I don't judge) all came out. New Pokemon and River City Ransom games are still coming out. And we finally got a Dragon Quest game! And that's just the stuff that interested me (except for Style Savvy... I really don't have interest in that one). Next year already has a pretty solid line-up with some cannabalised Wii U games, Ever Oasis, DQ8 (if it doesn't sneak out at the end of this year), and the Pikmin game might be good.  Anyway, it's turned into a respectable little system after all.

Definitely sucks to hear all of that Travo. I guess if there's a silver lining you can tell your wife she has to do all the work in bed now right?  You have a medical condition after all.

Yeah it has turned out to be a nice little system. I also still need to get the new Fire Emblem games.

Two thumbs down. It would be worth getting a second opinion. Remember to tell the second doctor nothing if you do go that route.

Also, I was checking out the user reviews on Xbox live & the majority of people seem to really like Recore, so I guess I'm not totally insane.

It currently has a 4.7 out of 5 average among users.

Why are you so caught up on this game. I post a lot of review round-ups in the updates for many games from all developers - and if said game is getting mixed or bad reviews, I mention it off cuff, you've been here for years, so this is not some new occurance to you. Having that twisted into some kind of fanboy narrative is not okay, I don't know how you can't see that.

When I say Recore is bombing I don't mean it's a bad game, I mean in reviews it's getting a lot of 6/10s. Just like when I casually throw out that Zombi U bombed I'm not saying its bad game. To me, bombing is either sales or reception is low or bad. If you personally like the game good for you.

Dude you need to seriously chill. Maybe you've had a bad week or something because you're taking shit way too seriously. I haven't been treating you any different than anyone else.

My week has been fine thanks. I'm just tired of having every little thing I say being twisted into the Nintendo fanboy narrative for your own amusement - You realise that's being a troll right? And it's every fricking week now. The exact same thing we all hated at Gamespot. I can't tell you how much fun it was to log into my favourite forum at the time to see my friends, only to see what new way Carnage had concoted to troll me repeatedly.

It wasn't cool then and it's not cool now. I come here to chill out and have fun with friends, not to have every little thing I say twisted into your fanboy narrative.

It's not okay to casually throw out the fanboy accusation whenever you can't make a decent argument. Persistent trolling, that gives you pleasure at another persons expense is exactly what happened on Gamespot. Do you want to be lumped in with the likes of Carnage and Pedro, Grammaton?

Casually throwing about the fanboy accusaction at anyone and everyone you disagree with is supreme douchebag behaviour. It's belittling and it unfairly frames every single opinion the user has, as being biased or irrelevant one way or the other for every single topic. And I'm here to tell you it's not okay. When you disagree with Vader, you call him a Sony fanboy and walk off, when you disagree with Archangel you call him an Xbox fanboy and do the same. And with me you do the same thing with Nintendo. You don't actually agree or disagree with the content of a post or its argument, or just calmly present your own viewpoint. You do up to a point and then you often reach a point in a discussion then just spam the FANBOY button on your keyboard and walk off because you've reached a dead end in your arguments. Then days and weeks after, just passively aggressively randomly troll people.

Here's a Newsflash for you, just so you can understand about how I am with gaming now - I haven't bought a game in over 9 months, I spend more money on clothes then games. I spent more than PS4 money on a bag. I regard Anime as being my main hobby at the moment with gaming a distant 2nd. And I actually don't give a flying fuck about gaming at the moment. I prefer reading about gaming more than gaming.

That's where I am with gaming. So you repeatedly twisting every random thing I say into a "I'm so emotionally invested in" random-things makes NO fucking sense and is just stupid to me. The stupidity and logic of it is offensive let alone the rest.

What I don't appreciate is being trolled regularly especially when these troll don't even make any sense.

I don't post thousands of updates about all companies and gaming busting my balls for your benefit (and the benefit of the people here), just to have random shit thrown my way for no reason.

edgecrusher said:

Only you have a tendency to get very sensitive about certain things whenever someone busts your balls, or disagrees with you & doesn't want to bow down to however you feel about a given subject.

Seriously? I force people to bow down to my opinion all the time here? What universe is this? Sorry guys.... I guess.

edgecrusher said:

Now you're turning into the insult master because I said you seemed butt hurt, which obviously HAS you butt hurt.

I've talked about Recore the same way I've talked about many games that received lots of average reviews that I feel are actually better than people have given them credit for.

Nice try, you're trying to rewrite what happened again. You were the one who said I was butthurt about Recore, even when I have fuck all interest in the game and don't even own an XB1.  You're the one who bought it at launch and is miffed about it getting mixed reviews. You then turn around and say that I'm butthurt that 3 team members left Retro a decade ago and haven't make anything noteworthy since? I mean come on, it doesn't even make any sense. You made an off the cuff jibe, it backfired because it makes no sense and instead of just apologising and saying that you meant no offence (like literally everybody else here would have done - then moved on) you just keep digging yourself a deeper hole.

You made a failed trolling attempt like when you said I was an apologist when I simply pointed out that Nintendo's portable studios will continue making the same kind of games they always do.

It's not okay to twist every little thing I say into some fanboy narrative. I think you know that's not acceptable.

I want my friend back, I want cool guy Edgecrusher, not rancid troll Edgecrusher.

3DS started good but has faded into irrelevance with me. I've had some good times with it in the past but can't be bothered to play it these days and I think it's because of the Wii U. When I play the U offscreen it's exactly how I usually play my portables at home only now I've got a huge screen, great speakers, more comfort and way better graphics. Not to mention faster wireless, more apps. Then I boot up 3DS and see those visuals.... that small screen and I just can't do it anymore.

Gaming for me is about convience now, as long NX can be played off screen and there are arcade style games easy to get into and out of quickly that's okay. The games don't have to be short, I played the fuck out of XCX, they just have to be easy to jump in and get out of. Hate having to play something just to get to a save point these days. Or randomly long cutscenes.
