Today is going to be a big day for technology. We have Sony and Apple conferences.
So there's rumours that the PS4 Neo will have upgradeable components ie. graphics cards, RAM, and HDD.
So it's basically the Playstation equivalent of a Steambox? Yeah, that'll go down nicely.
MS and Sony seem pretty confident in the power of their brand if they'll end up offering 'scaleable' hardware, especially when you consider the aggresive pricing of games on Steam when compared to console pricing.
Hmmm....I kind of think they could pull it off, if done correctly. Both Xbox and Playstation.
Steambox was a good idea, they just completely screwed up like Nintendo with Wii U on marketing it, and confusing people. Most people like simple and easy to understand when it comes to gaming. With XBOX and PS, unlike Steambox, they will be ONE console with a big brand name on it, that you can buy extras for. Its actually a larger scale version of what Nintendo did with the expansion pak in the N64 days, only better The games will run fine on any spec of the consoles for at least a few "graphics card generations" for lack of a better term, so you don't even have to do anything to play any game you want for awhile, or worry about only getting access to half a game like Perfect Dark. Then, they just have to make it easy for people to know which gpu is the new release by the time you DO want to upgrade.
Where?
So the NX patented SCDs are okay too.
Suck it Supreme!
On the Internet.
I saw a video on YouTube by Rich at reviewtechusa.
Steambox failed because by the time they released, Valve had moved on to the Steam Link. That and there was no market for them. PC gamers could make better pc's themselves for much cheaper while console gamers are content with the existing offering and don't want the hassle of worrying about specs.
What you describe sounds an awful lot like just a pc where all upgrades need a Sony Seal of Approval, read: will be overpriced like the first party HDD's for last and current gen consoles. And what will you get in return? expensive games and a couple of exclusives. MS seems to be going for a model more akin to what we see in the mobile space these days, which seems like a leaner solution and easier to market.
It's still all a bad idea. The only good argument I've seen in favor of all of this is that you'll be able to play 'retro' games without havign to worry about hardware breaking or having a TV with 10 different ports so you can set everything up. But you'll lose the peace of mind that you'll be playing the optimalized version of your game, and gaming in the long run will suffer from the need to be 'forwards compatible' as it will mean even less headway is made in terms of AI, number of NPC's on screen, and all other things that are CPU bound.
Sony's DOOMED!
If Apple bought Nintendo:
Whaaaatt the fuck just happened?!?!!!!!!'bhsjshshdjdhdjsnajwjshkqiagekdhshfbf
I was going to buy Nintendo stock before the NX announcement, it went up 25% already. Wtf is this. GG you are supposed to know all Nintendo tumors, why didntbyounknow about this?!?!?! How did this happen?!?!
Sears still exists?
What part of Suck-it-Supreme do you not understand?
We already know about the cancerous tumor inside Nintendo - his name's Miyamoto.
Woo hoo! Super Mario for my iPad.
It's Kirbys Canvas curse re-skinned
