Molyneux: "They've threatened me, they've threatened my family and it just cannot go on"

As I said last week, "it's not a great week to be Peter Molyneux." How sad is it though, that I can't really decide if he's even being truthful about statements like this? Did you guys see the Paper, Rocks, Shotgun interview he did? Pretty brutal, but not undeserved.  At any rate, I think the guy should take a very long vacation and then maybe come back after he's made something complete, and talk about what he made rather than what he wants to make. Might be good for him.

The first question of that interrogation interview was, "Do you think you are a pathalogical liar?" Damn! LOL I haven't read the entire thing yet; it's just too brutal to read in one setting.

I like Molyneux. I like that he tries to push to boundaries of the gaming. But he also always has these grandiose promises that he rarely delivers on. I absolutely would never give him my money without a finished and reviewed product available beforehand.

I also enjoyed the Eurogamer editorial Requim for a Dreamer.  Overpromising is one thing, but promising things that you know are not in the game and won't be added in is a whole other thing.  The article also touches upon how he remains such a likable guy, mostly through actually showing that he's human.  Oh, and how he by sheer accident got back into game development after his first game bombed.

I think when it comes to Molyneux, he's a guy who has big ideas but should be in charge of absolutely nothing. There's a couple articles/interviews out there about him from the last week, and in one of them some of the programmers who worked under him nearly killed him a few times. I don't remember if they said which game, but they were working on one that was near completion, and shortly before they were done he announced to the press a host of new features the game would have that had never been discussed internally before. So the programmers were left to try and figure out what to do with little time, little budget, and little support staff.

Seems to me like he's just too much of a crowd pleaser who enjoys the spotlight.  I know of a few higher profile people in my business who are in similar situations where they'll hardly work themselves, hardly pay their employees, but do attend each party and live the good life themselves, while getting credited for the fabulous work the people in their employment put forth.

I've been listening to Wolfenstein: The podcast.  My favorite bit was when the host likened 'stealth killing someone with a knife' to 'saving a dollar while buying candy'. LOL

Also, GG, I saw your comment in the Smash thread about gyro aiming in the shooting galleries. Pfft, stick/circle pad all the way! I got the big prizes the first time, too! And in the swamp, after beating the temple, my first target shooting run, via the witch, resulted in 54 targets hit. The second time -- to get the prize for beating your own score -- I got 64. Hm, 64... how appropriate.

I'm guessing you mean the Majora thread?

Gyro aiming >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> stick aiming.

Don't know what is going on with Molyneux as I haven't paid attention to anything he's done since Fable 2. Seems like a nice guy, but he's a dreamer, he gets people too enthused and then doesn't deliver. I think he's got a bad rep in the gaming community now and it will be hard to shift it.
