In other news: While I was hanging out in Washington Square Park today, a bug flew into the hood of my hoodie, down the back of my shirt, which was tucked into my pants, giving it free access to... bite my ass.

I also ran into Fredrik Eklund, the host of "Million Dollar Listing NY" on Bravo, at a restaurant where I had brunch...

...the straight friend I was with informed me that prior to his Bravo show, Erik was apparently in Gay Porn. I had no clue. Explains a lot that he only deals with BIG listings... He's very clearly overcompensating for something else...

...Did I mention yet that today was an extremely bizarre day?

I would like to point out how silly it was for Nintendo's marketing department to name Super Mario 3D World Super Mario 3D World, instead of Super Mario Cats. Billions of people love cats; tens of millions of people love Super Mario; thus with the title: Super Mario Cats, Nintendo could have sold tens of billions of Wii U consoles just by having that one little word in the title! *facepalm*

I am making progress, slowly but surely. I am in the Snowpeak Manor... at least I think that's what it is called.

It's such an odd Zelda. It has many dark, dark themes and events, and then you'll meet characters like Agitha...

...and then you'll suddenly find yourself snow-boarding down a mountain in an out-of-nowhere SSX-like mini-game moment...

..and then helping to make soup...

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, considering Majora into the whole Zelda equation, but man this one is weird.

Filing late.

Played a fair bit of Borderlands 2, then, for whateverfuckingreason, I strated and beat Heavy Rain. I gave first impressions in the last podcast, but now that I have finished have some different vewis on the game, which will wait for the next show.

So probably back to Borderlands 2, unless the stars align and I can play some Payroll 2 with Foolz and any of you that have the game on PC.

If you only play one game of this kind in your life, you should make it a Civilization game. Some of the most enjoyably relaxing gaming you can experience. Its a pillar of gaming, imo.

I just read the article Female gamers, devs discuss Bayonetta's portrayal of women

Lacking any girl gamer friends, it was an interesting read to a certain extent.  Basically opinions boiled down to Bayonetta being a good portrayal of sexy women, because she herself choses to be like that (if that's possible, being a virtual character), as opposed to just being a better animated piece of furniture in a ringmail bikini.  All of the sexiness sprouts from her character's own behaviour.  The point was also raised that this was completely lost in advertising, where Bayonetta is depicted sleazily on posters and cardboard cutouts.  Also, Bayonetta wouldn't be so controversial if there were more and differentiated displays of female lead characters in games.

I don't think that interviewing more or less random women makes for good journalism, but lacking female gamers to discuss these things with myself, it gives some insights on how women view games.  Someone raised a good point about it not being hard to place themselves in the mindset of a straight male gamer to enjoy games, but that it was rather insulting that most games just naturally assume that that is what you are.  And then there was someone who admitted to liking BDSM herself.

Bayonetta as a character is a lot like Lara Croft to me. Sexy and strong, and doesn't take any shit.

Read parts of that Sunset Overdrive review. Sounds like its going to be a very interesting game.

I'm looking forward to it. And I like the fact that  thematically it feels like its made by 30+ guys, as imo that was the last generation of people who had ANYTHING real to fall in love with in terms of music or culture in general as everything these days is so fake and cheesy its not even funny. I know for a fact Ted Price is actually a big metalhead, I remember him talking about bands like Opeth. Plus, all the games this title is influenced by were BORN in that era, from Jet Set Radio to Ratchet & Clank.

To me, THIS is the first major Xbox One exclusive. I don't really think of Titanfall as an exclusive, and all the other titles on the system are B or C level. Sunset Overdrive is the first true exclusive to be excited about.

Sunset Overdrive reviews

Eurogamer – 8/10
Videogamer – 6/10
US Gamer – 4.5/5
Destructoid – 8.5/10
Techno Buffalo – Buy
Hardcore Gamer – 4/5
Polygon – 9/10
Games Radar – 4/5
GameSpot – 8/10
Eurogamer Italy – 7/10
IGN Benelux – 9/10
ITF Gaming – 9/10
Gamer 365 – 8/10
Zing.cz – 8/10
The Escapist – 4/5
GamesBeat – 85/100
GameInformer – 9.25/10
Kotaku – Yes
Metro – 7/10

IGN – 9/10

  • CVG: 7/10 - There are fantastic moments where everything aligns perfectly, and even when it falls flat through over-effort the basic action is still a rewarding and noisy mess.
  • GamesRadar: 4/5 - You've never explored an open world quite like this. Sunset Overdrive's iffy gunplay and inconsistent missions are redeemed by absolutely amazing mobility and an infectious enthusiasm for mayhem.
  • Joystiq: 5/5 - Each of the game's systems feeds into another, making the experience feel complete and purposeful. More importantly, it gives players a plethora of choices in how they look, what weapon they use and how they play, and then makes every single possible combination feel vindicated.
  • Eurogamer: 8/10 - Beneath the glorious tech, and once the writing relaxes a little, Sunset Overdrive's wonderfully lurid and heartfelt - a bit like playing an old 4AD album sleeve. If you get that reference, you'll probably get this, too.
  • IGN: 9/10 - Sunset Overdrive is big, gorgeous, and a hell of a lot of fun. Never has getting from point A to point B in an open-world game provided so much enjoyment. It provides some of the most fun, frantic, and fantastic gaming I've had on the Xbox One.
  • VideoGamer: 6/10 - Sunset Overdrive's campaign may be disappointing, but its multiplayer offers a glimpse of how a potential sequel could fulfil its largely-squandered promise.
  • GameSpot: 8/10 - You can compare it to games like Crackdown, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, and Ratchet and Clank, but by combining the best elements of those games into a single package and injecting it with an anything goes, rock and roll attitude, you'll never think of it as anything but a singular achievement that stands tall on its own merits.
  • Polygon: 9/10 - The best thing about Sunset Overdrive is how it's unabashedly enthusiastic about what it is, in just about every way. That enthusiasm, and the freedom behind it, is contagious.
  • Metro: 7/10 - Shallow, simplistic, and never quite as funny as it thinks it is, but there's still more energy and imagination at work here than most other new next gen franchises.
  • Game Informer: 9.25/10 - Outside of the mission monotony, Sunset Overdrive is an immensely rewarding experience that has a look and style all its own and a great gameplay package to complement it. It's a colorful return to form for Insomniac games, and a hell of an exclusive for Xbox One.
  • Destructoid: 8.5/10 - Sunset Overdrive may have a few flaws inherent to many open-world games and lack an engaging narrative, but it's an incredibly fun, vibrant game that's a nice break from the overly gritty tone we see far too often in today's market. After Fuse, this is exactly what Insomniac Games needed.
  • VentureBeat: 85/100 - The look, feel, and sound won me over. Forgiving the mission structure and forgetting the tower-defense junk, this is pretty much what I would expect from an action shooter for this console generation.
  • Kotaku: No score - I often found myself want to shout at the screen: "Ok, ok, I get it: you're a video game and you know it. Now go and actually just be a fucking video game!" When Sunset Overdrive does this by easing off its zingers and just letting you relax and enjoy yourself, it can actually be a really good game. A great one, even. But it makes you climb over a giant heaping pile of bullshit just to get to that point.
