Did you know there are 30 RPG's scheduled for 2014? Actually an IGN video worth watching!?ign.com editorial impressions media phantom_leo
$1.4 billion from Japan alone?! Thats who is paying for that damn game. Japan has gone to mobile phones, its done. That game is pokemon mixed with puzzles, that could be you Nintendo.
I think the last time the holiday season felt like truly the best time for game releases was 2004. Then, once Resident Evil 4 came out in January 2005 everything changed. Since then, it has felt like the 1st few months of the year get the best games. Or at least the highest quantity of great games.
Remember back in the day when everything would come out before December, and then we would get maybe one great game before March or April? I kind of miss that in a way.....gives you time to enjoy what you have.
Guy who wanted to sell off Xbox division PUT IN CHARGE OF Xbox division:
"Stephen Elop will still rejoin Microsoft shortly to lead an expanded devices team focused on Surface, Windows Phones, and Xbox"
GAF says:
Just so everyone understand the situation :
The guy who allegedly said he would get rid of the Xbox division and all the devices is now in charge of the Xbox division.
That's the same guy that put Nokia in a situation dire enough that they couldn't do anything but sell themselves to Microsoft.
In charge of Nokia ----------> Kills Nokia
Wants to kill Xbox
In charge of Xbox ------------> ??????????
The guy announced that the current line of Nokia products was obsolete while the next line wasn't even out thus making the business of his company toxic.
He made his company make a partnership that proved to be disastrous to his company success (at pretty much the same time).
Seriously look up Nokia under his leadership, he basically killed what was left of Nokia.
The main campaign is 2 hours long, it could be speed run in 5 minutes.
GI says they tried some extra missions but not all, did not mention how many there are but said they all take place in the same base. Koji Pro says they used Dead Rising case zero as the inspiration, says with DLC and all this extra paid stuff they decided to try it with the first part of the game.
Gameplay sounds like a blast but you pretty much know all the info from watching the gameplay demonstrations. You have to find all hidden XOF patches to access the console exclusive mission. A little more on GZ, it uses an pad app where you can use a pad to be your classic radar. In the game you can access it through a menu but it is real time on the pad.
They spoiled the entire story, what little there is.
Now MGSV, it takes place 9 years after GZ while Boss was in a coma. It starts with the trailer we saw at the hospital when its attacked by “Those who dont exist” which includes a fire version of Volgin, Psycho Mantis and more. Ocelot saves him and the game takes off from there. Boss ditches the name Snake and finally likes to be called Big Boss. Kojima altered his look to signify Boss’ new attitude so he has a robotic arm and the shrapnel which becomes a horn sticking out of head.
For those wondering how Les Enfants Terribles fits in with the timeline he says it will all make sense at the end of the game. The game area is 200 times larger than the GZ base. Gigantic open areas to explore which with many small bases, houses, farms, etc to check out. Some spots are guarded some are not. You can choose to get into fights or avoid them. It wont be one giant open world but many different large maps because you travel around the world.
Kojima says the games will play alike but in TPP its not constant danger like in GZ, you can choose to escape a base if you are seen in TPP for instance. The base building from PW is back, now there is a new base (probably Outer Heaven) and you rescue people with the fulton recovery just like in PW.
The bases will be more interactive, everyone will have their own and you will be able to hop online and visit a friends base if you want. If you rescue more hostages in GZ they will be transferred to TPP. Says players who play TPP will be at a clear advantage for TPP than those who don’t.
Very interesting Kojima interview in the issue. Basically talks about how he got into gaming and how he is stuck being the Metal Gear guy. He claims he does not want to be known as that man, he claims he doesnt have much time left cause he is 50 so he wants to write a list of all he wants to do before he dies and make sure he does it which includes writing a novel and making a movie.
He claims he likes simple stories, ironically. He said he always tries to make a simple story. He says he wont let series canon hinder him from telling the story he wants so if he has to contradict a few things he will.
There was a comparison of him and James Cameron with Aliens where that franchise was handed off after Alien and it was successful. Kojima said his situation is more like Terminator where if he left it would become a mess. He claims he has had no success in passing the torch which implies he has tried. There is a lot about Japanese culture and how he doesn't relate to any Japanese developers anymore except Platinum Games.
What I found most interesting is his talk about GTA and Konami. Remember that GTA tweet about how amazing an open world it was and how he was jealous. Well he says he is jealous of Rockstar that they are able to pump all their resources into making the game they desire. He says he can't do that, he still needs to work with Konami and partner on different projects and make sure things are balanced for Konami as a whole.
He says he just got into Breaking Bad and he is pissed cause he wasnt the one to come up with that story, he wants to tell that kind of story. He says if he pitched a story like that to Konami they would probably say no. He also loved Gravity, loved how simple it was and he says trying to create a game that simple would be hard with Konami. He says that movie really impacted him, making something out of the ordinary a big success and is jealous of it as a creator, says it stirred something in him.
He talks about how he is close friends with Guillermo Del Toro, says he would like to work with him one day.
This new issue of GI has the first review of Castlavania Lords of Shadows 2 and they gave it a 6.
Here are the other reviews:
Donkey Kong TF - 9.25 Tomb Raider Definitive - 9.25 FF Lightning Returns - 7 Broken Age Act 1 - 8.5 Bravely Default - 8 The Banner Saga - 8.5 OlliOlli - 8 Danganrompa - 8.5 Dr. Luigi - 8 Repubilque - 7.5 Dragon Ball Z Battle of Oz - 7 Joe Danger Infinity - 8 Nidhoog - 8 Fable Anniversary - 8
Catlevania: LoS 2:
Claims nearly every attempt this game makes to "stray from its fundamental kill room formula ends in failure".
Reviewer loved the first game, said "Unfortunately this sequel is as fresh as a whiff of garlic breath".
Good new combat mechanics but enemies stun locking you out of combos from across the map while you fight with the camera.
Reviewer hates the modern setting, its filled with generic alley ways, factory levels.
Says there was one stealth segment that was the worst of its class. The more traditional Castlevania settings are better.
Says there is one great level with the toy maker, outside of that most of the game is just ground previously covered in the first game.
"This shambling monstrosity is composed of chunks from other, better games"
DK Tropical Freeze:
Seems like generic worlds, ice, beach, jungle but "the variety is amazing"
Ride minecarts through saw mills, dash through a forest with a raging fire, etc.
Great difficulty balance, bonus stages are a bit ridiculous in difficulty though that is expected.
Water levels return, are very fun, better to control with analog stick than d-pad. For some reason you have to access the menu to pick one or the other.
Dixie and Cranky add new moves that work best to reach certain collectibles or specific platforming challenges. Rotating barrels allow you to select the best Kong for the job.
"Local Co-op is as much a mixed bag as the first installment."
6 worlds instead of 8 in the last game. But each level is larger. Reviewer says it rather have a smaller collection of the best levels Retro can make than a more bloated game with less quality levels and that is exactly what this game does.
FF Lightning Returns:
Worst of the Lightning series but not a bad game.
Real time combat makes battles feel more about skill than feel automated.
Game has easy and normal difficulty choices, cant change once you start the game. Its a hard game so the reviewer says to be afraid to choose easy.
That said the reviewer states the challenge of normal makes the battles thrilling.Says there is flexibility in the combat and battles are exciting.
Biggest change is the time system, all you have is 13 days, has its drawbacks.
Forces you to plan your time accordingly which can lead to entertaining time management.
Doesn't allow the time to delve into certain gameplay systems, like killing a species of monsters off for great loot. That needs lots of grinding which you cant do much of.
Many side quests are poor dull fetch quests that have annoying restrictions like only happening in a certain time of day.
You are forced to do quests cause that is how you level up. Cant choose how you level up each quest assigns the upgrades.
Fighting still matters as it gets you money and EP used for spells.
Calls the story a joke, feels like a non-canon spinoff that would be in a comic
Says this game swapped out systems that worked in past games for some that don't hit the same high notes.
Good. . . let the bad reviews come in for Castlevania. Let them be horrible. Let them be fetid and gut wrenching. Let this game be so foul that the very mention of it to future generations will be met with cringe and ire!!!
Look just below the new story you just posted and you WILL see some new you can be excited for!
I did see it. I don't get what they mean though. It's like 2 RPGs in one?? In length? Persona games have always been like that. Are they two separate games? Two separate stories? God dammit Destructiod, show some journalistic talent and explain yourselves!!

I will stream some of the game later if anyone is interested.
Game Informer played through MGS Ground Zeroes' main mission within 4 hours
I read through the MGS article

DK sounds amazing. Can't wait till I can play this...maybe next month or when I find a good used price of $10.
I really want to get excited for DKC. I just can't. It'll be a fine Gamefly rental for one me one day I'm sure.
Look just below the new story you just posted and you WILL see some new you can be excited for!

I'm going to buy as many copies of Lords of Shadow 2 that I can because I know that Robio will secretly be crushed if it doesn't do well.
No not length, girth.
Interesting.
I sentence you to the curse of 1,000 papercuts and a lemonade bath!!! May your anus burn!
Meh. That's a typical Monday nighter for me.
