Well it seems thanks to a belated birthday present I am once again a 3DS owner. This time of the XL variety. Just in time for Phoenix Wright. Though unless I buy that Robot digging game this is probably gonna be a paperweight for a while.

If you register before the 7th September I may be able to gift you a free Animal Crossing download, but I think it may be euro specific.

I've already registered my system (got to get enough points to buy all that worthless shit in the club store after all). If you don't have anyone else to give it to I'll give it a shot and see if it will work. I will be honest though, I don't see myself playing very much of it though. Animal Crossing has never quite been my thing.

I have a feeling that outside of a few games I've really been looking forward to like Dual Destinies, the 3DS will be a system that I use to play older games in downtimes. Kind of how I used my PS3 for the first year.

Xbox One reportedly hit by production woes

This is really interesting. Prior to the Xbone and PS4 being announced the big rumors were that one of the two would probably not launch in 2013 because one of them was having production difficulties. There were lots of little hints that Xbox One was the issue, like that story about their chip board that had an 80% failure rate. I wonder if all of that was spot on from the beginning or just a lucky guess that came true.

Square Enix suspends digital sales of Final Fantasy XIV

That's a hell of a win for S-E. After all the abysmal reviews that the original version of FFIV had as well as all of the in-game problems and bugs, I didn't think there was any way people would touch Realm Reborn. I guess gamers are just very forgiving.... or have very short memories.... or they're stupid.

I'll PM you the code. If it doesn't work, don't foward it to anyone else. I'll see if someone from europe or UK wants it.

Thanks for the link, GG. The article needed Killer 7 in it for any depth; especially as it helps to understand what influence he might have had on Shadows of the Damned. What the guy is complaining about applies completely to No More Heroes, but I suppose he can't say it's a downturn if an older game had the same problems. Weird critique to only talk about those two games.

Yeah I just skimmed it. As someone who hasn't played SOTD, LC or KID from an outside perspective just looking at cricial reception it seems to be going downwards more. When I first saw Lollipop Chainsaw I thought it seemed a tad unoriginal for Suda and then he's gone and down another hack and slasher with an old aestetic.

Question is: does he need to reinvent himself in every game?  I don't know the answer, but even if he should just sit back and make the game over and over again, it'll still stand out from 90% of the other games out there.  There are very few people in modern culture who became rich or famous by constantly doing things differently, but a lot that got there by just doing very similar stuff over and over again.

On the other hand, the quality needs to be there.

Wow... Wonderful 101 utterly bombed in Japan. I knew it'd be low but not 5K low. Man I hate to say it but this console may very well be unsavable.

Nintendo's home console can be yours for just $299.99 starting September 20, the house of Mario announced today. That's a $50 price cut for a console that's about to get a steady flow of Nintendo-made games but that's been struggling to sell at even half the pace of its predecessor.

The Wii U will sell in two models: the existing black deluxe model bundled with the pretty-good game compilation Nintendo Land or in a new Zelda model. An image of the latter leaked last week.P

That Zelda console is black, but its GamePad controller is etched with Zelda-style script The bundle will also include vouchers to download a digital (duh) copy of the Hyrule Historia Zelda lore book and a copy of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD.P

Both consoles include 32GB of on-board flash memory. The system can be connected to self-powered hard-drives for more storage capacity.

The 2DS will be great for kids. That's the right price point and there's no worry about 3-D screen affecting their eyes. Plus that always open structure will make it easier to design padding for it.

PR said:

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Nintendo outlined a campaign that will offer consumers unprecedented levels of value and variety this holiday season. That proposition includes:

A $50 price drop for the Wii U Deluxe Set to a new suggested retail price of just $299.99, effective on Sept. 20.
A limited-edition Wii U bundle featuring The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD launching on Sept. 20.
The introduction of Nintendo 2DS, an entry-level dedicated portable gaming system that plays all Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo DS games in 2D. Nintendo 2DS launches Oct. 12, the same day as Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, at a suggested retail price of $129.99.
Dates for an outstanding lineup of Q4 video games for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
The announcements demonstrate Nintendo’s aggressive approach to providing new games and experiences available only on Nintendo platforms for all types of people this holiday season. Nintendo announced these items at the GameStop Managers Show in Las Vegas.

“Nintendo has one of the strongest and most diverse video game lineups in our history,” said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America’s president and COO. “Today we’re making those unique Nintendo experiences more accessible and affordable. However you play and whatever you play, Nintendo has you covered.”

Nintendo 2DS

The newest member of the Nintendo 3DS family is designed specifically for anyone looking for a more affordable entry point into the world of Nintendo hand-held video games. Nintendo 2DS will be available in Red or Blue on Oct. 12 at a suggested retail price of $129.99.

Nintendo 2DS plays the entire library of packaged and downloadable games for Nintendo 3DS only in 2D. The system features a distinctive fixed, slate-type form factor, and optional carrying cases will be available in Red or Blue at launch at a suggested retail price of $12.99. Nintendo 2DS maintains many of the same hardware features as Nintendo 3DS: dual screens, game-play controls and touch-screen features. The system also has backward compatibility with the existing library of more than 2,000 Nintendo DS games, as well as access to wireless connectivity features like multiplayer online game play, fun Nintendo Video content and great digitally delivered games in the Nintendo eShop. To view a video of Nintendo 2DS, visit http://youtu.be/sAExBTWIp3M.

People eager to test drive the new system will have the chance beginning in October, when Nintendo 2DS joins a sampling tour in conjunction with Simon Malls that visits several different markets before it wraps up on Nov. 3.

New Suggested Retail Price - Wii U Deluxe Set

Starting Sept. 20, the Deluxe version of Nintendo’s Wii U system will be reduced in price by $50, to a new suggested retail price of just $299.99. The new price makes Wii U an even greater value, particularly with the strong lineup of Wii U games available and on the way for the system in 2013. These include Pikmin 3, The Wonderful 101, EarthBound, New Super Luigi U, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, Super Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.

The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Bundle

A new limited-edition Wii U bundle featuring The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD launches on Sept. 20 at a suggested retail price of $299.99. The bundle includes a black Deluxe Wii U console; a GamePad controller adorned with gold lettering, a gold Hyrule crest and gold symbols from the game; a download code for the digital version of Hyrule Historia, a book that details the chronology, history and artwork of The Legend of Zelda series; and a code that can be used to download The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD from the Nintendo eShop immediately at no additional cost.

The digital version of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD will also launch on Sept. 20, while the packaged version launches Oct. 4 with distinctive gold-foil packaging, both at a suggested retail price of $49.99. GameStop is also offering an exclusive Ganondorf figurine bundled with the packaged game at a suggested retail price of $54.99.

Reggie on 2DS said:
The reason we do this is, obviously, there's a limit to how low hardware can go from a profitability standpoint. This device allows us to reach lower consumer price points and still generate some profitability for the company. This device allows us to get to that five or six-year-old demographic, but in terms of the Pokemon demographic, you and I know that it's six to 66."

Not sure about this WW Ganon figurine bundle, it's £60 here and usually Wii U first party games debut online at £35 which is really good, only slightly more than Wii 1 games. So I checked the online price for WW by itself and it's £45 - so £15 more for figurine on top of that?

If the figure is £15 then plus the normal £35 it should be £50, not £60.

Sounds like some reaming is going on here. However good it is, it's an enhanced port of a cube game. This is priced too highly.

EDIT - Rayman is out in 2 days! Wtf? Too many games.
