So what do we call the 3ds now? It wasnt just a function it was the name of the system. So is it now the 2/3ds.
It's the 3DS, the new system is the 2DS. 2DS is the equivalent of the Wii mini, a cheap, slightly gimped piece of hardware made to buy kids that you're not afraid they'll break. I sure wouldn't hand my 3DS to my nephews, but I'd gladly chuck them that brick.They announced release dates!!!!!!!!!!!

Nintendo 2DS Has One Big Screen Divided by Plastic
Nintendo has revealed that its newly-announced 2DS has one large screen divided by a piece of plastic rather than two separate displays.
Speaking to USGamer, Nintendo executive vice president of sales and marketing Scott Moffitt confirmed that 2DS uses one display as part of a cost-cutting measure. According to USGamer, “the appearance of separate screens is merely simulated by the way the case masks out the extraneous portions. This means the entire screen is by necessity a touchscreen, with the upper screen protected by a layer of plastic that sits above it.”

Yeah, the 2DS is just a mini-tablet with the plastic bezel making it appear to be two different screens. It's a smart design to save money, but it sure is fugly. Hmm, maybe the 3DS should have been a mini-tablet all along.
