Is Vita cross-play feature an attempt to steal Wii U spotlight?
'Sony didn't shy away from attempting taking the wind out of Nintendo's sails. It's looking for any reason to help sell Vitas, and this functionality certainly doesn't make it any less attractive

PS3.
And didn't you get all bent out of shape the last time I suggested a topic was passe?
Well didntcha?
....
Yeah... that's what I thought. I'm off to play ME3.
Yeah, but complaining about people complaining about something being passe is so passe these days, Aspro.
How not to cure a migraine in seven easy steps:
Here's a theory (back on game critics gushing over art games).
Maybe it has to do with them being genuinely pleased to eb writing about something that is not like 90% of the games they have to play for review day-in, day-out. They get to be a bit more creative in their writing and feel better about their chosen career.
Its mid-August...isn't it high time somebody made a U launch countdown thread?
Played more Arkham City last night, freed Mr Freeze.
This game feels like it's coasting, there is nothing outstanding about the game, it feels so formulaic to me. I'm literally going through the motions now and I feel like it barely has any redeeming features about it. You go into a building, there is a central room with a few side rooms. You go into one side room, take out a couple of bad guys, go into the other side room take out a couple of bad guys. See a console and hack it, repeat.
Go into a big room where they drop 20 bad guys on you, you tap X, X, X, X, X, Y, X, X, X, X, X Y. Till the battle is over. See brief pointless cut scene with a Batman villain you've seen a million times already.
Repeat and rinse throughout the whole game. I feel like selling this on ebay.
I started Arkham Asylum the other day, and that is exactly, exactly how I feel about it. The action sequences are such that you can get through by blind button mashing and the forced stealth bits are just done by swinging on gargoyle and floating down to pick your targets. Seriously, why was this game so well received? Why is it so revered? Is it simply that it was the first superhero game which wasn't a broken cash-in mess? So far it's very much a 6/10 game for me. Nothing stands out. I wish I'd played this before buying Arkham City as well, but I just stupidly assumed they were both great games.
Did the art-game-review debate come about because of Papo and Yo? I don't like how the guy is so in your face about him having been abused etc - I appreciate some subtlety in that respect - but the game does look good to me. And different enough that I just might enjoy it. I'm mostly positive towards it for the time being ... 7/10

If someone wants to make an arty game. Well put it in the museum. If you going to let me pay for it, I am going to treat it like any other game. If the game is lacking, than it is lacking.
Because you are such a big man that you don't give a shit about what a game looks or sounds like and you only care about the core mechanics?
Every game has art, whether it's stupidly labeled as an "arty" game or not. You are not immune to it.

It's GAF that is annoying me. There is this thing about launch games and new systems the goggles are amazing. At E3 2011 they showed a Wii U sizzle reel and the whole of GAF said it "didn't look as good as 360/PS3 graphics" and it turned out that it was 360 and PS3 footage used! Also the repeated notion that every Wii U game has to look better than the best of 360/PS3 or it's somehow a graphical failure. We had this with the Wii 1 and I distinctly remember it back then. People unreasonably expected every Wii game to look better than the best Xbox or GC game, regardless of investment or talent used or even engine or size of environments.
Think about this, Ass Creed 3 is Ubisofts launch game, it's a port. This is their 5th 360/PS3 Ass Creed engine, their 5th go at making this engine on long established hardware. And yet on their first go at a Wii U version (ported from the 360 version) it looks best on Wii U. Kotaku has said it, Gametrailers EIC has said it, Gamers have said it.
Aliens Colonial Marines is Demiurge's first Wii U game and compared to other versions on PS3 and 360 it will be the best looking version with higher resolution textures.
If you take the best looking console games this gen and make it on Wii U and take advantage of the hardware it will look better.
And guess what GAF, every 360 game doesn't look better than Gears of War 3 and every PS3 game doesn't look better than Uncharted 3. Every game released has a different level of graphics showcased. Just because a game is on new hardware does not mean it auto-looks better than the best games of another machine.
You can find launch games on 360 which look horrendous by todays standards and some which even look worse than GC and Xbox games. I'm sure that when Nextbox comes out with it's 4gb and 8 cores you'll see Crysis 3 DX11 equivalent graphics which will look 80% as good as it does on a high end PC. If the Wii U is only twice as powerful as 360 with 3 underclocked cores and 2GB of memory the different won't be as stark. When you go into a Wii U thread or want to discuss the game it just gets derailed by this graphics comparison nonsense so often it gets annoying.
And jesus, look at the other zombie games this gen, none of the screens I have seen look as good as ZombiU. Maybe RE6 does but CapGod are graphical kings in some cases and they have like 400 people working on the game and they have made many, many games for these consoles already.
It's a neat idea but when I think about backwardly sticking my fingers onto the back of portable to control a portable, I just think I will hate it. You might as well just use your fingers on the touch screen instead of crooking your fingers and trying to poke the back of the Vita case. Also compared to LBP the visuals are kinda unappealing and rough.
HDTV? Have you hit Bionis field yet? Some areas look better than others, the scale is incredible.
The first area looks pretty bad, wait till you hit Bionis field. But yeah it does look better on an SDTV, notcible jaggies on an HDTV and the already low res textures are stretched even more on an HDTV. Also, try putting your HDTV into 4:3 mode and see if it makes a difference.
The game can look good. Imagine this on an SDTV, slightly softer, not as sharp.
Xenoblade is about the big picture, not the details. When it's at its best it's like watching a large landscape painting in motion. You're not going to be wowed by the detail on a rock but you may gasp at what's in the skyline in front of you.
I wouldn't say that. The portable marios have always been good for portables. NSMB DS was okay, but only average compared to the Wii game. What I would say is that a portable mario made decently will still be one of the best platformers on that hanheld and a solid buy - not a great one.
I liked Asylum at the time and still in some ways do. It was the original and it was smaller and felt tighter. " Is it simply that it was the first superhero game which wasn't a broken cash-in mess? " Kinda, yeah. And it's Batman, modern grown up Batman and people go nuts for it. Objectively the gameplay in the two Arkam games is overly simplistic and nothing special but it was the atmosphere and gameworld that pulled Asylum through. Arkcity is larger and overbloated, with looser design, has even even less focus, more repitition and the same baby simple controls, combat and stealth. I have no idea why it got so many GOTY nods, I feel like I've been hoodwinked into buying this game. Where were the reviews mentioning how it wasn't really an open world or how non-interactive the city game world was? How the combat had not been improved at all, how damned similar it was to the first game to the point where it's not worth buying?
Nah, it's the Dark Knight and it has great graphics and it makes you feel like a badass very easily - you can press X once and the camera will zoom in and Batman will do a reverse backwards flying kick in slow motion to a guys face. GOTY.
Too lazy.
What content would you like in such a thread?
No where in my sentence do I say anything closely resembling this.
This is supposed to be scary? Or funny?
"Is it simply that it was the first superhero game which wasn't a broken cash-in mess?"
As we say in Australia: Yeah....no.
That's kinda tough since we don't have a price or release date.
I did a fuckton of updates guys, check them out.
