Operation Flash Point. Complete with campaign and deep online multiplayer with vehicles.
I used the multiplayer as another part of the excellent package that was Halo 1. Halo 2's campaign should not exist.
Still there wasnt really anything like Halo before Halo. There still isnt much like it, most FPS are CoD like sadly.
What is wrong with Zelda music, what a symphony snob.
The package thing makes more sense, but still isn't true.
I edited my post with a better example: Operation Flashpoint (it pre-dated Halo not by a great deal, but I just woke up and can't think of any more examples lol, so please forgive me). Deep campaign, deep online and offline multiplayer. Excellent vehicles. The complete package.
I also wish Halo had been copied instead of CoD. Sadly its setting meant that would never happen.
Its easier to justify your company copying a real world setting like a war game, than it is to justify copying an outer space combat with aliens game. Halo 4 looks very Metroid-ish though, so now when Nintendo finally releases a new Metroid everyone will say its copying Halo.
I completely agree, plus, at the time... I was 11-12 years old and I didn't have broadband so I was stuck with the god awful campaign and it's terrible cliffhanger.
With the million mini-master chiefs it seems like they're trying to make it more real world war settingish, or at least more dudebroish. In the original the other soldiers were there to get killed and make Master Chief all the more badarse. That was part of the charm.
I haven't played anything post-Halo 2 so I could be way off the mark.
It still baffles me how Halo 2 got 9.5 ratings everywhere like the 1st game when its nowhere near as good. Nice to meet you BTW, I'm a sarcastic asshole just so you know, but still a lovable guy. Ask Dvader. And watch out for Steelattack...he likes to grab ass.
That game sounds cool but yeah they both came out basically about the same time so one didnt really inspire the other.
Halo was very original. Say it.
Operation Flashpoint was first. Operation Flashpoint wins.
Red Faction came out before Halo. It had some kind of crappy jeep you could drive around.
It also had the same control setup as Halo but Halo gets credit for "inventing" it.
I agree, the campaign was a disjointed mess (I would even say it's one of the worst campaigns in the history of shooters) and not only that but it added many interesting characters and it failed to develop them. Halo 3 suffers from the exact same problem, Reach and ODST are really, really good though.
Don't worry about the sarcasm, or the ass grabbing XD .
To be fair, many PS1 games had a similar setup (Alien Resurrection, MOH Underground and Men In Black Crashdown comes to mind) so who invented the perfect console shooter control setup? Too many to be counted.
Is this guy serious?
"The bigger trend is clear though: dedicated handheld consoles are a dying breed. The Nintendo 3DS has sold only 17 million units, far less than the 150 million Nintendo DS units or 81 million Game Boy Advance units the company has sold. Meanwhile, mobile gaming is expected to become an $18 billion industry by 2014, driven by cheap, casual games available on smartphone app stores."
Ugh....yeah and how long did it take DS and GBA to sell that many?
Gotta love Devin. Steel, he speaks of the atomic Clock here, Gene Hoglan, at the beginning.
Sorry to impose, Aspro, but I had to add to your news story. Not only are they printing more Dragon's Dogma, due to its success, they are turning it into a full-fledged Capcom FRANCHISE with more games coming eventually. Archie, your dreams of seeing a PS4 / 720 version of the game WILL. COME. TRUE!
**This REALLY is excellent news! Congrats on accomplishing that with a new IP, Capcom!**
Mirror's Edge is done.
Cool game in the same way that De Blob was a cool game...interesting graphical style and unique basic design, but beyond that there's not much to it. Worth checking out though.
