Spike TV VGA host Zachary Levi out to respect gamers, not the Spike TV audience and 'bro dudes'
I think one of the things about the VGAs that is cool and different is that it’s fun. It’s really kind of a more laid-back atmosphere and gaming is fun. Almost more than anything, it’s fun, it should be fun, it should be taken as the amazing interactive entertainment that it is. And now, more than ever, it is by far the most lucrative entertainment genre out there. I mean, I think it’s sort of fitting to have videogames awards.
One of the things I made really clear when I jumped onboard was, “This year I want it to be clear that I’m about the gaming audience, I’m not about the Spike audience.” I’m happy to work on the VGAs on Spike and make the network happy, but I want to be respectful to the community of gamers because I am one myself. And [with] the humor involved, I want it to be smart, I want it to be honest, and accurate.
Gamers are not just a bunch of bro dudes hanging making a bunch of jokes about balls and boobs and stuff like that—it’s a very broad audience.
I'm glad about it....as you say maybe more risk taking will, err, take place now. Miyamoto is great, but I get the impression that he thinks everybody should design shit just like him...which is typical of bosses in any area of life to an extent. The Nintendo way has always been the Miyamoto way, so lets see what happens.
My balls are fuckin' itchin' like a bastard after a serious round of titty-fuckin'! Think I drank too much Code Red too bra, can't stop pissin'!
I played the demo's for Goldeneye and Forza 4 a few minutes ago.
Goldeneye definitely looks a lot better and leads it to being more immersive visually on the 360, no doubt there. Surround sound is better too. As for the controls, when it comes to standard pads it feels a hell of a lot better on the 360 as well, which is likely due to the fact that the classic controller is cheaply made despite its nice layout, while the Gamecube pad clearly wasn't really meant for the game. Otherwise, its the same game that was on Wii.
Forza 4 is really impressive...to the point that I want to get it now. I've never really been a fan of Forza, always thought it was overrated. But Forza 4 is just sick. It feels much more "alive" than previous games, the controls are perfect, the production values from the graphics and sound to the menu's are unmatched, and it also has the best cockpit view I have ever seen. Wow, good shit.
Miyamoto has not been in a director role since OoT. Miyamoto wants to be more hands-on with gaming. This has nothing to do with taking risks. If you read Iwata Ask you see that usually Miyamoto comes up with crazy ass ideas like having Zelda in first person back when they were making OoT and guys like Koizumi just nodding their head and then proceed to ignore him. Or in Galaxy that he was against any story in the game and Koizumi just started hiding the story.
I think it is good news. Miyamoto really seems like the type that wants to create games instead of overseeing it. He has been overseeing so many games his influence stretches thin. People wll still probably ask him for advice, but he want to do less of that and that is good. They are kinda using Miyamoto as a crutch. Believe it or not, Miyamoto is mortal and he will retire someday.
Mario and Zelda are in good hands. Koizumi is a stud and Aonuma want to keep changing Zelda. He already did a good job in Skyward Sword, so let's see what he can do with Wii-U, plus he made Majora so he is auto awesome.
LIES!
Me and my buddy Miyamoto were making macaroni art yesterday. He's really a master with it. His macaroni mosaics are mind bogglingly good. He uses just the right amount of glitter too. Really knows how to make it pop. He mentioned his psuedo retirement to me as we were washing the glue off of our hands. He's really into the idea of developing a lot of smaller games for the eShop for the 3DS. He's got all these wild little ideas, but in his current position of God of Nintendo, he'd never be able to get away with them. I don't want to get into too many specifics as he asked me not to say anything, but he's got one idea for the 3DS that is basically a cross between Patapon, Star Tropics, and lesbian porn. It's really brilliant. He's gotten a little push back from the other powers that be at Nintendo, but he thinks he'll get his way.
Not feeling spectacular these days, so I picked up the Super Hero movies I have let slip by me in the last year or so. Watched Green Lantern, have Thor and Captain America to go. I'll post some opinions later just for the fun of it.
The good news is you watched the worst one of them first.. They only get better from there.
I take super hero movies at complete face value. I don't expect Shakespearian writing or Oscar worthy acting. I watch them to be occassionally inspired by heroism and to be entertained. I didn't mind Green Latern one bit. The Sixth grade-writing of overcoming fear and the cloud of space poop super villian did not stop me from looking at 'Hal Jordan' learning to fly for the first time or committing his first acts of heroism and becoming a star struck kid again, wishing the ring had chosen me and that I was flying to Planet Oa. Ryan Reynolds was a perfect choice even if he was subdued a bit by the "writing" and he certainly looked the part.
...doesn't hurt that he's HOT either...
Just wait until I watch Captain America...
I for one think Shakespeare is overrated.
He was a buffoon.
If I've read 4 Thor comics in my life, that would be the extext of my knowledge of the character. It seems odd to me to have a black Heimdall and an Asian Norse Warrior, but it doesn't bother me as much as the hardcore comic fans. What seems far fetched to me in some respects is set aside for the totally believable and relatable, HUMAN aspects of sacrifice, humility, jealousy and living in the shadow of a father you could never seem to please. Yes, sometimes comics (and comic book movies) can be simple, but sometimes they are perfect for revealing simple truths.
Screw comics read about Thor in wiki. The mythological Thor >> comic book Thor
Oh. Trust me, when it comes to ACTUAL Norse Mythology, I am practically a scholar! From Yggdrasil to Hel, The Valkyries to Valhalla, Ginnungagap to Ragnarok, Sigurd and Fafnir... I've practically read it all!
You forgot Ymir, the most important one.
I just have to say, If DC is going to go the Marvel route and have a Justice League movie to match The Avengers, they better start stepping up their game. The production value of Green Lantern versus Thor and Captain America was embarassing! It was a fun movie for sure, but nowhere near the ambition of Thor and Cap.
Out of the three, I have to say I almost favor Thor a little more. It just had themes I could relate to more than Cap. The Frost Giants parts of Thor were great. A lot of Captain America seemed to be played out in montages. I must say, I did love the special effects of little Steve Rogers versus full-grown Cap though! That was amazing!
Today was totally cathartic. It's good to believe in heroes sometimes. My world has been a little dark and gloomy these days. The only little bit of hero action I've seen lately was a big mistake and left me with a few fractured body parts. Not exactly heroic.
I think I am a big enough man to say I get swept up in these movies. My heart soars at the heroic action and I even tear up a little bit when tragedy occurs (Loki and Bucky). The thought of Cap missing his date and waking up in modern NYC got to me as well. I don't know what has gotten into me lately. Everything around me seems broken (not just fractured)... and I've been seeking out that little bit of extra hope that only Super Heroes sometimes can provide. Don't know if anyone gets what I mean, but when all is said and done, I do recommend all three movies, even if it's only for a bit of escapism.
DC is kind of doomed with their movies. Generally the scripts get written by committee with Warner Bros. execs watching over it, instead of an individual. Batman was taken much better care of, though after the next one I think even those days will be over. The next Superman movie will ultimately tell the fate of DC hero movies. If that one gets botched they'll never get it right.
I love super hero movies for many of the same reasons. You are not alone Leo. I hope you feel better as well.
