Let me describe my day in regards to the Uncharted reviews.. I was at work so I could only get bits and pieces and the first thing I saw was 10 from IGN and 10 from some PS website and other perfect scores. I thought to myself this game is going to get the most incredible scores ever. Then later I get back on and the game gets back to reality, 8 from Eurogamer, 4 from G4.
I read most of the reviews so its time to review the revies. The IGN reviews reads like a masturbatory love fest with not much detail on why its awesome. He just goes on and on about how no game has ever presented a cinematic game like this. At how the game will blow our little minds with its setpieces. I have no problem with gushing reviews, but they need to include good reasons why it deserves the gushing. I read this review first so I assumed Uncharted 3 is the most incredible game ever made.
Then I read the 1up review that was far more level headed and explained WHY it was so good. Here I learned about the new melee system and how the game mixes up the gameplay scenarios very well. As well has learning that the multiplayer has been fixed back to how it was in the beta. Still all good.
Thats when I learned about the Eurogamer review and I had to read it. I found the review to be a little over dramtic in its negativity. Basically the entire argument of that review is that because it is so cinematic the player doesn't do much. So he complains about how the player has little control, how the puzzles get solved for you and so on. I dont believe that cause the same can be said about Uncharted 2 and that game is incredible, there is plenty of gameplay and the cinematics serve to enhance the gameplay not control it.
The last review I will mention is G4s which is probably the most telling one. Throughout all these reviews I was still left wondering how is this game better or worse than Uncharted 2. Adam comes right out and says that it matches Uncharted 2 in some areas but doesn't hit the same amount of highs that Uncharted 2 has. He claims that Uncharted 3 basically follows all the same beats of U2 even the poor ones and it has the same kind of ending. He also goes into detail on how the co-op mode lost the excitement of U2 co-op mode and is now just an exercise in shooting dudes. Maybe Adam was expecting too much but it does come off as a review of someone that really understood why Uncharted 2 was so special and how Uncharted 3 just doesn't differentiate itself enough.
So who knows. I am going in expecting a game as good as U2, but no where near the jump from U1 to U2 and usually that leads to me not liking the game as much as the second one. There is a whole list of franchises where I love the second one more than any other cause that is the one that really explodes and brings the series to its full potential while the rest of the sequels just tweak the formula a bit. That said because I expect it to be on U2s level I do think it will be one of the best games of the year.

Fail.
- reviewer says it's easier than Ocarina Of Time and Twilight Princess
Fail.
GAMINGGEEK!!!
This week I have only a few half days to finish Batman. I get back on wednesday and work thursday and friday. Then I fly again on sunday to get back on tuesday when Uncharted hits. And no i wont leave Uncharted 3 on a shelf while I finish Batman, its too important of a game.
Oh well.
Hey Bear, how are you feeling?
You'd think you buying Bully would have been enough to summon him.
No, i am just calling for him. Hes asleep right now.
I am going to have to step my game up. I must get Endless Ocean.
You need to buy Go Vacation ... and like it
___
Listen to Wu-Tang and watch Kung-Fu
I almost bought Go Vacation this past weekend, but buying Rocksmith left me brokeded. That and Yakuza 3.
My main question would be the setting.
Nooooooooo not LA. GTA V better be Vice City.
Dear God no to both LA and Vice City. One of the reasons GTAIV was so horrible was it was the same setting as 3, and honestly, wasn't all that different. Meh@HD LA or Miami. New setting or bust. I suppose London would be more acceptable if you're going to repeat a setting vien that that was done in 2D.
Wait Super Mario Land 3D comes out on Nov, 13????? So I am getting a new Mario and Zelda game in the same week???? OMG!
Ok technically exactly a week apart but who cares.
So anyone else here downloaded the Saints Row: The Third Creation Initiation Station?
Because it's fun as fuck. Volition have put some pretty rad taunts and also chucked in some cool pieces of clothing (which I can't wait to try out in the full game).
Uncharted 2 still has too much of a combat focus for my liking over its exploration, but fuck it still blows the 1st game away. Gooood shit.
