How many games are there and in what order do they come?
I hear there is a Mask of Miracles 3DS game too?
What is up with the Vanquish reviews, some 9/10s and then some bad reviews. Is this the next gen P.N.0.3?
CVG
"Vanquish aspires to be extreme, over-the-top and bombastic - but, in fact, it's a competent if unimaginative third-person shooter.
The almost negligent treatment of the story and characters places a heavy burden on the visuals and gameplay - and although the former has the wow factor, the latter becomes monotonous and irritatingly similar as Vanquish wears on.
Mikami has the basis for a gorgeous, thrilling shooter here. But the wooden narrative, stale mechanic and barely-there learning curve prevent Vanquish from ever quite reaching those heights. "

", the whole thing gets old quick"
DESTRUCTOID
"Vanquish is a tepid and tedious game that simply doesn't deserve your cash during a period chock full of far superior releases. And I never thought I'd have to say that about a Platinum game. "
Like the never seen witcher 1 port, it looks increasingly likely that Witcher 2 won't be hitting consoles to me.

Well done. I knew you could do it!!
For consistency (and to avoid confusion) I will just use the titles of the US releases of games. So far there are three out:
1. Professor Layton and the Curious Village
2. Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box
3. Professor Layton and the Unwound Future
The three of them work as a thematic trilogy. The next games which as Robio said chronologically will stand as a trilogy of prequels (a la Star Wars) are:
4. Professor Layton and the Specter's Flute (out in Japan)
5. Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle
Number 5 is the one which will be a 3DS launch title in Japan.
The film, Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva, has an original story and doesn't follow one of the games

Listen to Wu-Tang and watch Kung-Fu
Damn that's a lot of games. Wish they would do a trilogy pack.
Yeah it would be nice, but I wouldn't count on it. Level 5 has worked a lot now with Nintendo and Square-Enix. If they've learned anything from the two of them it's that there's more value in NOT doing packs and just re-release games instead.
The film is its own thing, but chronologically it takes place after the Specter's Flute. Sadly it doesn't look like its' ever coming to North America, but apparently there is a version that will be released for the UK. Hopefully I'll be able to pick that up. I could get a subtitled version of it I suppose, but there's just something wrong about listening to Professor Layton speak Japanese.
Also there's another movie in production and apparently even a live-action stage show in the works. It's tough to overstate just how popular this character is in Japan. Really when you look at it Capcom scored HUGE in the cross-over title. Phoenix Wright is going to get exposed to a much wider audience than ever before.
Yeah the movie is out on UK DVD soon. I will be renting it.
Also the games really pack the DS carts with a lot of content. Cut-scenes, audio voice-overs, lots of music tracks etc. They couldn't put more than one game on a DS cartridge even if they wanted to, though as Robio there's no reason for them to want to as the games sell well on their own.
GG i've been on your case before about giving the series a try. Start with the first game. I'm sure you could get it for around 15 quid now. Even though it's essentially a series of puzzles - the plot, the characters, the charm add to it a lot - it's really more than the sum of its parts. I think you would really get into it.
___
Listen to Wu-Tang and watch Kung-Fu
I suck at puzzles though.
I would be at gamefaqs or crying here.
YES! Just beat Voldo in Resident Evil Darkside Chronicles and Alexia too. I'm on a roll, now on the next Krauser Leon mission. Seeing this game in SD for the first time, very pretty. Wish Shattered Memories could scalp some of the reflective effects. Real shame that more aren't tailoring games to this system in dark confined environments where they can more easily pack in the detail and effects.
Cruising back through COD WaW, in hindsight, it's pretty linear and I think the controls, visuals and layouts are better in COD4.
"Naka's title is something that I've been hoping to see for a while now. The man behind Sonic and Nights is trying his hand at a new action title for us, and I think that's really important not just for us, but for the game industry as a whole."
"I'm really happy to get to work with people as amazing as these, and I think everyone at Kadokawa Games can agree with me on that. If we can package that emotion in the games we create, then I think we'll succeed at keeping gamers similarly happy, too, and that's my ultimate goal here."
The following comments come from Naka...
"The game itself is an action title that takes place in the sky. The action gameplay is what I'm focusing on the most with this project -- interactivity is the most important attraction with any sort of game, and if that doesn't evolve, then games won't be everything they can be. Sonic was all about completely taking over the land, and Nights brought that same concept into the skies. I had always thought that action games that take place in the sky are too hard for players to cope with, but then I thought up a new method for dealing with it. That's how this project got started. If I had stuck around at Sega, then I might have used this concept to make a sequel to Nights!"
The following comments come from Suda51...
"I can't say anything concrete about this project yet, but I do guarantee that it'll feature stylish action and some really extreme twists. I showed the game off to an overseas publisher, and they couldn't stop laughing -- I mean, just bending over and laughing. How many games do you know that can make you laugh like that? When I saw that, myself and Yasuda were like 'Yes! This is really gonna work!' I think it's going to be a really big title in the worldwide market."

Spin?
"While this news was, in some cases, a hard pill for some to swallow, we believe it is an important step for the industry. Why? Because we've long acknowledged that our reporting of monthly point-of-sale purchases (covering new physical sales of hardware, software and accessories only, not used game sales) did not represent 100 per cent of the consumer spend on the industry. Since new physical sales at retail have been down for some months now, the news that the industry is beleaguered has been widely covered, and it has caused unnecessary angst for many. So, while the monthly POS sales reporting still represents the majority of the consumer spend on the industry, we believe that by reducing our reporting on that portion of the market, and augmenting it with our new report, Games Industry: Total Consumer Spend, which looks at, and measures, the other avenues consumers are acquiring games content, we would provide a better, more comprehensive look at just how big the games industry is. The games industry is experiencing one of the most transformative periods in its rich history; new technologies and ways of gaming, new consumers being introduced to gaming, and new avenues of distribution all play major roles and we're excited to be evolving our coverage of the market to accommodate the industry." - Anita Fazier, analyst at NPD
So...because the NPD doesn't report on digital downloads, we now miss out on a ton of hardware/software data each month. Someone tell me how this makes things better instead of worse?

Nice.
Sonic Free Riders?? Okay so what's the incentive to play this game? Sonic Riders was originally a medicore title that actually got worse in the sequel. I don't see that changing here.
But you actually make an arm swimming motion to swim.
Ownage right there.
Senor Steelo.
I was just wondering, you seemed to really take to Mario Galaxy once you tried it properly. Did this make you rethink trying a Zelda or Metroid Prime game? I would like to see your reactions to it.
Cool. It's always good to get one finished. Speaking of, I am well back in the saddle with GTA4. I blitzed through about 8-9 missions last night. I just checked a FAQ and it looks like I am about 6-7 missions from finishing, so it will be nice to get that one out of the way so I can start the Episodes.
NPD can do what they want, the people who need to know the numebrs will still get it on the report that they pay for. I'm sure Metacritic causes much more angst for developers than NPDs.
WTF does Zelda or Metroid have to do with SMG?
Hmm. I guess I could try. But they're hard!
