I'm glad the boys here at VG Press aren't smoking up BioWare's butt like some of the game editors.

I always thought BioWare was slightly overrated and their games aren't really that fun, to be honest. I don't know, maybe I'm speaking out of my tail, but I guess I just can't get into a BioWare RPG as opposed to having fun with a game like White Knight Chronicles.

Although Dragon-Age isn't bad, I'd also rather play White Knight Chronicles over DAO. Looks more imaginative and inspired to me.

I tried Balder's Gate II and wasn't won over, but Mass Effect did get me interested; however, Mass Effect was also DRM hell, so I refused to buy it.

Tell me to get back to rewriting this site so it's not horrible on mobile

You know what I will say it, I am safe in here, WRPGs are bland when it comes to enemy and world design. You see that pick above, it is made of pure win. Beautiful forest location, big huge monster dude trying to club you, I look at that and I think "I want to play that".

Wuh! Wuh! WHAT ? ! ? WRPGs RULE ! ! ! Who wants JRPGs or SRPGs with all of their anime crap and amnesiac heroes? All JRPGs are the same, with the same plot and the same stereotypical characters! Every WRPG is totally different and have absolutely NOTHING to do with the Lord of the Rings! Dude! You are obviously a biased, otaku FANBOY who should play Oblivion for the next TEN YEARS 'til you GET A CLUE ! ! !

LOL

The GGD scares me sometimes.

Oh and Bethesda > Bioware.

Every couple years I get sucked into the idea of WRPGs and giving one a go.  I don't think I've ever liked one, with Fable being the only one I ever finished.

Fable is an action/adventure game disguised as an RPG.

If this turns out to be even simply as good as Phantasy Star 0, I'll be very, very happy.

An HD game of this type on my TV screen with online gameplay... Too much to ask...!

*Fingers are crossed, but bracing for a bad blow at the same time!*

I probably rather be playing that than Dragon Age.

DA isn't bad it is just waaaaaaay too story heavy and the auto fighting isn't fun. I don't feel like I am playing anything most of the time, I am sort of watching an interactive TV miniseries about a fake LOTR.

Well they made KOTOR which is the best RPG I have ever played, but how much of that has to do with it being Star Wars, probably a lot. It was also my first Bioware game so all the dialogue choices and game structure was new to me. The problem with Bioware is that all their games follow the same structure. The settings change, the battle systems change, but at the core a Bioware game plays like a Bioware game (Mass Effect  probably the exception cause it has real time shooting).  You enter an area, there will be a major problem which the locals will ask you for help. There will also be side characters that you meet in the town that ask for help as well. You do missions, you meet people that you have to talk to in certain ways. Then you do the main mission which takes you to the area of combat, fight things, probably end with a boss, return for your reward and do it all over again in the next city.

You know what I will say it, I am safe in here, WRPGs are bland when it comes to enemy and world design. You see that pick above, it is made of pure win. Beautiful forest location, big huge monster dude trying to club you, I look at that and I think "I want to play that".

I totally agree!

Which is why I laughed out loud with side-pains and jeering when BioWare said JRPGs never evolved!

So hypocritical, and the most arrogant thing I ever heard a developer said in this industry.

Darksiders Picture

That pic is amazing, its a dude with a giant sword riding a flaming horse while shooting a huge gun at monsters. Win.

You kinda forget who War is during the course of the game. Then you get Ruin (his pony) and you see just how powerful his attacks get while riding him; your reaction inevitably is: "Oh yeah... He's one of the Four HORSEMEN... Duh!"

Now I know why GG is so hard to get this game.

"this is probably the biggest improvement over the predecessor: with countless quests, salvage items, titles, photographs and of course the fish and birds, Endless Ocean 2 is very much a completionist’s wet dream."

What?

Every couple years I get sucked into the idea of WRPGs and giving one a go.  I don't think I've ever liked one, with Fable being the only one I ever finished.

Fable is an action/adventure game disguised as an RPG.

Fable is a bad game disguised as a competent one. Nyaa

WTH are you guys doing *blows smoke up Bioware's butt* I've liked 2 out of the 3 Bioware games I've played, but tellingly, never completed any of them. Mass Effect is a pretty great game, I just got caught at a bottleneck.

Bethesda, I've only played Fallout 3 and Oblivion but I liked both, Fallout 3 less so.

I was playing Another code R over the weekend.

It made my cry. Literally, the story took an unexpected turn, they turned on the violin music and tears were rolling down my eyes. Damnit.

If it weren't for the endless, thumb hurting, clicking through text, this would be an enjoyable-ish game overall.

Wow, Archangel. I knew you enjoyed JRPGs but I didn't know you loved them more than WRPGs. Happy

Same here. I prefer JRPGs more. I guess it's because I grew up with it, but it also fits my style of gaming.

Oh yeah. I've actually played relatively few WRPG's. Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 and Icewind Dale on PC. Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire on Xbox. Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Mass Effect 1 & 2 on 360. By contrast I've been hooked on JRPG's ever since Dragon Warrior first hit the NES. I've played countless numbers of them since then and I'll likely pick up any JRPG that comes out on a home console in North America.

FFXIII On PS2 Cost Square Enix A Year-and-a-Half

500x_500x_500x_500x_500x_ginger2.jpg

Not only was Final Fantasy XIII originally planned for the PlayStation 2, senior producer Yoshinori Kitase says that switching the title to the PS3 cost Square Enix "a year-and-a-half".

Late last week Kotaku posted pictures of the PS2 version of the game. The game, which was released on the PS3 last December in Japan, was formally announced as a PlayStation 3 title at the E3 gaming expo in Los Angeles back in 2006.

"Final Fantasy XIII was originally meant to be a PS2 title, but we had to switch systems due to the arrival of the PS3," says Kitase. "That cost us about one and a half years and was constantly a case of trial and error."

So this is a bad thing, right? Not necessarily.

"However, because we worked so hard at the beginning, we got to a cruising speed much faster then anticipated and therefore could start on the translation and international voice recording process at an early stage of the development," Kitase continues. "It's because of this that we can release both the European as well as the American version barely three months after the Japanese release."
