Yeah Iga that thread makes my head hurt sometimes. I dont even like NSMB enough to defend it that much but some of the stuff said in that thread is so stupid I can't help it.
I love the last point Grammaton made that Nintendo probably would love to kill off its major franchise and only focus on wii games, that why should Nintendo ever make another Mario game like Galaxy when they can make more money with NSMB. Meanwhile Nintendo's upcoming release schedule has Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metroid Other M, a new Zelda in the works, and Pikmin 3 somewhere.
And Wii Sports Resort will influence the WM+ controls of Zelda, so even the 'casual' games have their uses for teh hardcorzz.
Besides Gram has Nintendo confused with Activision, the reason they won't make yearly 2d Mario games is, because the won't want to run it into the ground. Like Activision did with Guitar Hero.
Besides 2D Mario selling so much is a good thing. It the consumer basically saying that 2d platforming is a serious genre and does not need to be relegated to handhelds or DLC. Expect Nintendo to continue both 2D and 3D Mario.

i don't know. you'll most probably end up being right in the end as there is a high chance heavy rain will get lost up its own ass but for the time being i'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and at least maintain some interest level since they seem to be trying something somewhat new and different. alan wake looks a lot like another RE4 clone action-horror game. but like you said it may very well end up the more playable of the two
