OH. MY. GOD. That Castlevania collection thing would, BLOW. MY. MIND. I'd think it'd be really nice to have the N64 games in it but I also wouldn't miss them terribly if they are omitted.

I only have CV4 and two of the DS games, but I played all the gba ones too.

I really want SOTN but without a hard drive... eh.

So what other 8 or 16 bit CVs are worth getting? And wasn't there only the 1 N64 CV game and wasn't it like a 75% game?

So the game room rumour panned out. Anyone remember when I posted pics and details a couple of months back?

No

That's because your mind is too pre-occupied thinking about Burger Time.

I remember us talking about a Sony Home-like arcade a few months ago.  So is Rare working on all this XBL stuff? I know they make the avatars.

Here's what I posted, wow from October the 8th 2009

360 gets is own PS style home

Images and details have leaked onto the net for something called 'Xbox Avatar RetroCade', which looks strikingly similar to Sony's PlayStation Home.

Mentioned in a previously-secret consumer survey sent to
Joystiq, the "virtual Avatar arcade" could be called "Game Room," "RetroCade," "Classics LIVE" or "Tower of ROM." We like the last one.

screenshot_222546.jpg

It looks incredibly similar in concept to PlayStation Home's own arcade, though if the leaked survey's anything to go by it's not going to be free of charge.

The second survey question asks, "Which of the following names would most compel you to purchase the product?" indicating that the "Xbox arcade" might not be a totally free space.

We've contacted Microsoft for comment.

Yeah that was it.  Am I missing something here? This doesn't seem like anything to be excited about.  You walk your avatar up to an arcade machine and then play a retro arcade game... ok... and then what?

Here's a rundown for you for what's good and what's not:

8 Bit games

Castlevania - Fun and kind of short, but hard as hell. Most players will never even be able to get to Dracula let alone beat him.

Castlevania II: Simon's Quest - Lots of story, but the game ultimately feels broken. Skip it.

Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse - Best of the 8 bit series.  Tough, but not ridiculously hard.  Password feature helps.  4 playable characters and multiple paths gives the game a ton of replay value

16 bit games

Super Castlevania IV  - Best of the 16 bit games. Bare bones story, but great controls and great music.

Dracula X - Felt like a step backwards for the series.  Little more story to the game, but the graphics weren't quite as good and the controls weren't as elaborate.  Not a bad game all the same.

Castlevania Bloodlines/Vampire's Kiss - The lone Genesis Castlevania and pretty underated.  Controls like the 8 bit games, and features 2 playable characters one with a spear and one with a whip.

Then there's Rondo of Blood that's could be included in this, though I wouldn't hold my breath.

Oh yeah, and while I wouldn't say they were the best in the series, the N64 Castlevania games - Castlevania 64 and Castlevania Legacy of Darkness weren't bad games.  They just happen to have come after Symphony of the Night and were a let down in comparison to that.  I actually think they were the best 3-D Castlevania games made (which isn't saying much, but it's something).

I'd say you are correct.   The 64 games get a bum rap.

Yeah they were actually kind of neat in their own way although I would rank Lament of Innocence and Curse of Darkness as being the better 3D Castlevanias.

This is a typical fight in Bayonetta. The battle starts with a few grunts, you move in with quick sword strikes, summoning giant hair feet and fists to destroy them. Dodge a move and everything enters slow motion where you switch to your whip to grab a far enemy bring them to you so you can leave a skull bomb at their feet. At this point you can do a torture attack so you grab the nearest dude and throw him into a guillotine and chop his head off. He leaves a staff which you pick up, plant into the ground and spin around on it kicking everything around you. Flying dudes come in so you jump in the air doing combos. Then you jump on one of their backs pull a giant chainsaw out of your ass (figuratively) cut the guy in half, you may still use the giant chainsaw as a weapon so you drill the nearest enemy cutting him to pieces. Now some flying dragon thing shows up so you jump and transform into this bird and shoot arrows at it. It tries to hit you but you counter which summons a ton of huge fists and feets out of the air to beat the shit out of it. It lands stunned on the ground where you do a few moves before finishing it off by summoning this huge bird that land on the dragon and grabsthe dragons head as if it were a worm and slowly rips it off and  swallows it whole.

That is a normal fight.

Hey! Do you think with all the hair you have on your body, if you had command of it, you would be a weapon of mass destruction?

I think I have an idea for Bayonetta 2.  Nyaa

For me Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse is the best of the 8-bit games because of great graphics and music of it's time, multiple characters to play as, and braching paths.

Second was Castlevania II: Simon's Quest. Some of the great classical tunes first started here and I really dug the night/day aspect.

Third is the first Castlevania. Tough as nails but just a really great game that started it all.

For the 16-bit games Super Castlevania IV is my favourite and pretty much my favourite of all the "old-school" 'Vanias. Great gameplay, awesome bosses and boss fights, and for whatever reason I've always liked Simon Belmont the best. Excellent graphics and soundtrack and it was a decently long game for it's type.

Second was Castlevania: Bloodlines. Excellent game all around that was really only hampered by the graphics and sound because of the Genesis' capabilities.

Thirdly was Dracula X. Really solid game with some neat graphical effects but for some reason it just felt that it held back on it's potential.

I can't tell whether this is good or bad.

Neither. It's completely awesome! Nyaa Even though I have yet to finish the gane I think that I can safely say that Bayonetta has set the new standard for action games. Yes even above my much beloved Ninja Gaiden. The game is sheer perfection.

Everything about the game is great I just felt like the magic was gone. When I played the DMC it felt brand new, no game really played like it. The way Dante moved, the way he instantly slashed every foe, the ease of how he jumped, that feeling of freedom was amazing. The game itself had issues but that core gameplay was incredible, it was so good that I loved the game in spite of it's flaws. Now there are other games that control like this, that have combat like this, it just did not impress me as it once did. If you never played the DMC then you are in for a treat cause it will blow you away. For me though it felt way too similar to that game.

I am going to be hard on this game and give it a 9.8

LOL LOL

9.3 is not a GOTY score for me, that is why I was being hard on it. The way everyone around here is jizzing in their pants about it sounds to me like 9.6 or above scores. Nyaa
