It's a great addition.  It was one of the things that had a hold on my at GS. The way it is done here threw me for the first  seconds, but it's nice to be a little different -- it's a leaderboard rather than a leveling system.

Yeah, the main reason was that I didn't want to follow-the-leader and just do another Level X: INSERT_GAMING_REFERENCE_TITLE.  The downside is that you don't consistently improve the rank, but on the opposite side of things, it keeps you active because you don't want to fall back
