U2 and NMH2 are release date purchases for me. I rarely get hyped about a game but the first Uncharted blew me away so I've got big hopes for the second one. I am just hoping that the reviewers are not over-compensating for their treatment of the first Uncharted.
I have played the Brutal Legend demo and I enjoyed it very much. The most striking thing about the demo is how much heavy metal love is put into this game, even the main menu is a love letter to metal fans. I am sure all die hard metal fans, or any one that can appreciate a game artisiticaly covering a certain style will love this game.
The opening cutscene is as awesome as it is funny. It has a giant stage prop come alive and behead the singers of a tween "metal" group, that sets the tone for the whole game. Jack Black is right in his element, I instantly liked his character and found him really funny throughout. Make sure you take the time to listen to him talk , don't rush so that you may hear all of his lines.
The gameplay is standard 3rd person action adventure stuff. He has a basic move list, X to use the axe and square to use the guitar. You can make a few combos like X, Square, X. If you hold the buttons down you do a more powerful attack. L2 is lock on, circle is dodge or block depending if you are moving or not. The combat was very basic, even on the hardest difficulty setting there was no real challenge, I didnt even see a life bar, maybe it was removed for the demo? You do meet up with a partner which allows you to do a co-op attack. Looking at the trailer it seems you will control whole armies of groupies, I assume it will play like Overlord or something.
There was a vehicle segment as well, this hotrod car that you build. A boss fight ends the demo, basic pattern boss battle, the usual 3 hits and they are down. There was a hint of a puzzle in the demo, I hope the game is full of them.
There wasn't much actual gameplay to get a good grasp of the full game. Judging by the trailers there will be a massive open world to explore and armies to control. It has the basics of a great action adventure game but like most in that genre the quality of the game will come down to the level design and mix of gameplay elements. In terms of story, and overall style this game will be hard to top, it's oozing with personality.
