I always play Contra on easy first to get the level structure down. Now on normal it's harder but still do-able. Beware though its 5 stages, feels about half as long as Super Contra. Also it's 4:3 ratio.
Some levels are quite reminiscent of past contra games. The end level is like the last level of super contra, it even has the same boss albeit acting in a different way.
There is the obligatory latching onto missiles and jumping over rising lava.
It's a game I can see myself playing again and again particularly in multiplayer but it is perilously short. Its the difficulty which will stop you and of course the gameplay will keep you coming back for more.
Overall if you haven't played Super Contra then definetely get that first (not that I'm talking to you Leo).
I think a hard corps Genesis download would have been better for me though. At least you get to play as humans in this game. In the Euro version of Contra aka Probotector they make us play as robots and the VC version is the robot one.

Too bad to hear the game is short. But I'm sure it's still fun.
Because of all this Contra talk I went and picked up Contra IV and found Contra Advance. Since Contra IV has Contra I & Super C, I pretty much have the entire Contra experience in the palm of my hands!
I'm excited to play Rebirth when I get a Wii...but what you said about the game is slightly disappointing.

How are you determining what is unfinished, cause it seems like you dont own most of your games anymore. Are you just going by what you remember, games you started playing but stoped. My unfinished games are only the ones I have in my possesion now, I wouldnt want to know how big it would be if I included all the games I borrowed or rented.
I am looking at your NES completion list, wow. Fester's Quest! Gremlins 2! You haven't beaten Mega Man 6? You beat Rush N' Attack, man that game is impossible hard. You only gave Super Mario Bros. 3 three stars, uh... wtf.
Your Genesis list feels like something is missing... something blue (oh just read your post). Thats it for Saturn, no Virtua Fighter? You never finished FFVII??? Oh god no! You never finished any of the PS1 RE games???
