Yikes, according to VG Chartz, Madworld sold 40,000 first week, and 17,000 second...
Don't cry, GG.
Me and Edge said ages ago that it was a niche title. It's a black and white, cel-shaded ultraviolent game.
That's like saying a black and white movie is going to rip up the summer blockbuster films. If you want proper games to succeed on the system you need big name franchises like Call of Duty World at War which just hit a million on Wii or the RE games which are both over a million too.
Games about insects, on rails old franchises or uber niche violent fests like No More Heroes aren't mainstream and they aint blockbuster.
Damnit I wanted to make you cry! Ah well, I do agree with you. There's a fair bit of disgust and horror going on on the wii forums on GS atm. But it's just not the same as you crying!

You do realise there's pretty much no where else to get numbers from right?

Yes the NPD. I mean really this site has been proven to be pure BS time after time. The only time they are right is when press releases state the amount of games that have been sold then they change the numbers.

NPD is only top top 20 or 100 or whatever isn't it? So if something isn't in it there's no other choice whether they're right or wrong, and I never claimed they were right.
Ubisoft says all critics should move to the five star system (ala 1up's craptacular grading system).
What a wank.
Personally I don't think any score system works most of the time. Really, it all comes down to good writing, and being able to justify something without a score is preferable for me, but it's a matter of taste. And if you can justify a review without a score, then you should be able to do so with one, so once again, it all comes down to good writing to me.
^Who do you like as a game review writer? My favorite is Play Magazine Nick des Barres (if you don't know Play does not give scores). He is their Japanese reporter (well he's not Japanese, but he reports from Japan).

Old school Eliot Fish and Cam Shea. I haven't really liked Eliot Fish's recent work, though. The bastard sold out! I used to love Hyper, though, and back in the day I enjoyed even their worst reviews, which were still great IMO. I mean, I was looking back at some of the recently, and even Wilks used to be able to write a good review! So basically anyone who used to work at Hyper before the first period of Cam Shea as editor (once he got to grips with it, he became my favourite editors, though) and then up until Wilks took over. It really is pretty bad, and has an incredibly amatuer vibe which I don't like at all.
These days (on the internet anyway) I usually prefer user reviews. From I can remember the official Nintendo Mag used to have some great reviews in it too. PC Powerplay too had some good'uns though they could be a bit boring sometimes. Unfortunately in those two cases I can't remember any of the writers' names, except fro the ones that usually worked fro Hyper.

But you still trust the site enough to use it. I mean your better off just guessing the numbers due to that's exactly what that site does. I mean SEGA themselves claimed that they were happy with Madworld's North American sales so far.

i haven't yet given in but i have to confess to feeling tempted. the only reason i haven't bought the pikmins again i think is that i'm hoping little king's story will have somewhat of a similar gameplay but i'm very tempted. jungle beat is a great game also but it would make me very sad as it would remind me of my gamecube copy which got stolen along with the donkey kongas and my bongo controller (and many other things).

Yeah I just beat "Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake". Man what a great game third best Metal Gear in the series in my opinion.
Guess I should play this for more than an hour someday. You play as Raiden? So what weapons do you use compared to Snake? Weird futuristic stuff?

Really? I think its best to wait a few months before judging sales really. The press reported that Boom Blox bombed with 65k in the first month now a sequel is coming and the first game is nearing a million too.

And how many copies of Splatterhouse will seel in the first week on the 360? maybe 70,000? That's the only wide-appeal Madworld would have.
Still... I guess the Wii-audience in general is not paying attention.
Utter garvage as far as game reporting goes. Nintendo PR could not have done a better job. Seriously, what a joke. Sessler...
Splatterhouse will sell better than that I bet. Firstly, no celshaded games have sold really well. Okay maybe Wind Waker but that is a sequel in a 25 year old franchise, its going to get sales despite the change. If there is a new IP and its cel-shaded you're looking at low numbers inherently unless its an exception to the rule.
I would love to see a sequel to Madworld in colour. That would be so cool, not that I dont like the black and white, but it would be a really cool selling point for the sequel "Now in colour!"
It could look spectacular.
That reggie video, he didn't hype anything.

The best site to use would be global GFK chartrack which has merged with Media Create and NPD and UK sales. But that still misses a ton of sales info and they tend not to release worldwide sales figures. They did for 2008, overall top ten and the like. But otherwise unless a company releases solid info there really isn't a decent indication of sales.
At least VGchartz do alter their numbers according to released info. It's a decent estimate and a good indicator to use in lieu of anything better. Unless you want to trawl through the net searching for weekly sales of 6 months in japan add in months of NPD etc etc.

No he is talking about Metal Gear 2 not MGS. That is the second Metal Gear game, it came out only in Japan on the MSX and has since been included in the Subsistance pack. Its an incredible game. You basically find that MGS1 borrowed almost all gameplay ideas from this game.
On MGS2 no you dont get any different weapons, well not till the very end when you get a sword.

Yeah, I wasn't really surprised. Could still end up with decent long term sales, though, but there was never going to be a big burst at launch.
