At a presentation about the visual technology behind the development of “Dead Rising 2,” the game’s character art lead, Izmeth Siddeek, said that the development team at Blue Castle games is preparing for players to encounter an unprecedented zombie horde. “‘Dead Rising 2′ deal[s] with the rendering of the greatest number of characters ever seen in a video game,” he said. “Everything else needed to be subordinated to this requirement.”
His presentation focused on how software called Mental Mill enabled Blue Castle to efficiently render many characters in visually distinct ways. The software is helping the makers of this zombies-in-a-casino action game to present a large number of characters without losing graphical quality and without having to take shortcuts that would put the game’s zombies in a small number of outfits.
In a postscript to the presentation, Laura Scholl, product manager for Mental Mill, said that Siddeek said that the “Dead Rising 2″ development team is preparing to have as many as 6000 characters on the screen. Siddeek did not say whether that figure was accurate.
Holy shit! That's cazy, crazy awesome that is.
I'm so looking forward to this game. I'll probably play through the first DR game sometime soon to help hold me over until then.
Squenix
taking over Eidos. Next TR game will have Lara showing even more boobs,
and wearing a thong, and two bunny ears. And lots of belts and zippers.
That or they'll make her look like a man, just to even out the feminine wiles of their male characters in most of their games.

CDProjekt Working on a New Game - Yes! CDProjekt is making another game? Can't wait!
Anyway where's Edge? I'm curious to see how he's liking "The Witcher"?
"Are Game Ratings Broken?" - While
some may be more broken then others, any rating system is broken. The
fact that it displays how old a consumer has to be to play the game
makes it broken enough. Never mind the terrible broad content labels.
Oh or how about the AO or NC-17 ratings which directly tell me that
your kid CAN'T watch this even if they're 16. Yeah that's really
consistent makes sense why "Orgazmo" got a NC-17 rating while "Hostile"
received a R. Makes perfect sense.
So NC-17 is worse than R? Is R 18+? Lovely consistency if it is.

Restricted is 17 or older (under 17 accompanied by an adult). NC-17 is absolutely no one 17 or under (must be 1 can enter.
The problem isn't in ratings--they'll never be perfect--but rather in their use. They're a guide and absolutely should not be something that's enforced, such as refusing purchase.

^^^Exactly. However many people don't see it that way. And going from "PG-13" to "R" and especially from "R" to "NC-17" kills your profits. Retail stores and even most online sites WON'T SELL YOUR PRODUCT. And this is all due to the board members at the MPAA who are just regular everyday people (not psychologists, or even anyone with a significant degree just your next door neighbor).

So they could well be psychologists then?
They aren't they're regular everyday people. There was a movie that was released not to long ago that revealed the identities of the people who rate these movies, they're practically your next door neighbor...
I know, I've been interested in seeing that movie, though I've heard it does descend into simply naming them, and not saying much interesting or helpful. However, my comment was simply a thinly veiled jab at psychology!

Yikes, according to VG Chartz, Madworld sold 40,000 first week, and 17,000 second...
Don't cry, GG.
Me and Edge said ages ago that it was a niche title. It's a black and white, cel-shaded ultraviolent game.
That's like saying a black and white movie is going to rip up the summer blockbuster films. If you want proper games to succeed on the system you need big name franchises like Call of Duty World at War which just hit a million on Wii or the RE games which are both over a million too.
Games about insects, on rails old franchises or uber niche violent fests like No More Heroes aren't mainstream and they aint blockbuster.
Oooh, snow. Another niche game by the way so I wont cry when it sells under 300k
Speaking at a GDC luncheon with several game industry luminaries, Blizzard's game design EVP Rob Pardo said that Sony and Microsoft need to "come up with new forms of gameplay and new mechanics."
Suggesting that the two companies should look to Nintendo and work on improving their input devices, he said, "If [Sony and Microsoft] don’t come up with a way to come up with new forms of gameplay and new mechanics, than there is no point in giving us new hardware, because then it’s just about cloud computing."
“This is going to make or break [console companies] this time around,” Acclaim's David Perry added. “I’m not aware they’re really putting a big amount of effort into finding out what the people who are making the games [want].”
Junction Point's Warren Spector speculated, “I think they’re so focused on the all-in-one device...I’m not sure they’re actually thinking about the games that are actually going to come out. It seems kind of crazy.”
Spector then turned to Pardo and joked, “I’d love to see what you guys do with the Wii,” to which the Blizzard exec smiled and raised his eyebrows, but stayed silent.
Oh god, the 3rd party situation is so bad that people have to insinuate and imagine content.
BOOM BLOX
Rahimi said that the console could store hundreds of the levels in its memory with each level only a few K. He said the game won't support saving levels to SD cards because that feature came along too late for the developers to use.
Aw what? Other EA games use SD cards. Oh well, its not like I will ever download hundreds of levels. I still haven't finished the hundreds of levels on Boom Blox 1.
