Played the RE5 demo.

Its ok but I wasn't blown away at all. Definitely seems like more of a co-op game the way the demo is set up, which is cool but I don't really want a co-op RE game.

Controls are the same as RE4, but what's with the default aim speed? Slow as fuck. Had to turn it all the way up and then it finally feels like RE4 on Cube. I'm totally spoiled by Wii controls so this feels cumbersome to me.

The tag along chick kind of annoys me....again I can see already how its going to make co-op the better option for a smoother play. It doesn't feel like a natural partner, like say Dom from Gears, or your squad in Crysis or Halo. She constantly stays RIGHT next to you to the point of annoyance. Its like get out of my fucking way bitch. She moves unnatural.

Already had to save her ass 2 times and watched her get her head chopped off once.....this is exactly what I don't want to deal with for 20 hours. They should have just let you play ALONE in Single-player, like a normal RE game. Its different from Ashley in RE4.....she's almost not an issue because she stays behind you....this chick on the other hand is supposed to hold her own, but its just bothersome.

I see they threw some Arab looking dudes into the game for the "don't kill the blacks" people. I think I shot the same Saddam looking guy like 10 times.

Graphically, this confirms I never want to see another game set in Africa. Its just like Far Cry 2; solid technically, but totally bland looking compared to the last game artistically. Everything is boring looking in Africa apparently. It doesn't have the WOW factor that RE4 visuals had.

Ummm, what else.....guys now erupt into an even stranger pile of goo after you kill them. Not really a fan of that. Makes it feel arcadey.

I guess that's it. Its still good but I just wasn't floored. Its more of a copy-paste B-level RE game from what I can tell as I thought it would be. The apparent changes I'm not big on, like the focus on co-op (you'd think Zero would have taught them something...oh it did, add online) and the seeming removeal of the last few bits of true RE atmosphere. Maybe later in the game it feels more like RE. Because as it is, yeah it copy's RE4's gameplay style yet the game itself doesn't give off a Biohazard vibe and atmosphere like RE4 did.

I would not be surprised if some mags and sites say they like this as much as RE4 just because of the online though. Works for every other game.

I rate the demo an 8.3

Quite fun. Even though I died constantly. Didn't really know you could leave the main house in the Public Annoucement section.

Good to also see that there was no lag.

You have never been outside the house, wow. Sorry I must have thrown you into the fire just running into the madness like that. Also it seemed everytime you got attacked I got attacked, so I couldnt help, it happens.

You'd be shocked how well I did when I was offline before I learnt you could get out of the house. I managed to kill that fucker with the huge axe.

I think he is easier in the house, you can use that little fense you can jump over to constantly get away from him. The hardest thing to do is to take him out out in the open, not cause of him, he is a slow idiot, its cause the enemies come from freaking everywhere, and if one grabs you from behind at just the wrong moment, axe guy will get you.

Iron Mans 2

"Sega and Marvel are collaborating closely to ensure we deliver an authentic Iron Man experience,"

Sega: (backing up dump truck full of money to pay for license) Is that enough authenticity?

Marvel: Mhm... little more please.

I find the level of honest communication in this link to be surprising (and good news as well) :

http://www.joystiq.com/2009/02/04/more-wii-games-from-ea-thanks-to-low-development-costs/

"EA's John Riccitiello has made a strong argument for why EA is looking to increase its Wii development. It boils down to the fact that developing for the Wii is a lot cheaper than for other current-gen consoles. Riccitiello said during EA's Q3 2009 earnings call that "development is typically a third to a fourth as much for a Wii game than it is for a PS3 or an Xbox 360 game." When put like that, it's a wonder anyone develops high-definition games at all.

Riccitiello went on to explain that this is largely due to Wii developers "producing less art than for high-definition games." As a result, EA will be giving the Wii as much developmental emphasis as the 360 and PS3 enjoy collectively, seeking to "rival Nintendo on their own platform." If the announcement of Dead Space for the Wii is any indication, more emphasis will also be put on bringing more hardcore experiences to the console, rather than ports of the latest Madden or block-based puzzle games."

GG, it sounds like you want to play Splinter Cell Conviction. It looks to be the furthest thing from a SC game since the series started.

I was looking forward to it a zillion years ago. Not anymore since it's disappeared. It looked like Hitman, only they were pushing this physics idea that sounded really stupid so I'm not suprised at the re-working. The whole idea was to have everything in the game react to physics, a chair thrown into a desk etc. It looked like Sam Fisher: Office Fighter and without a proper interface device like the Wiimote in Elebits it would just be a waste of time for litttle reward.

Your impressions vocalise most of my fears about this game. Let me ask you, when Sheba died, does your game end? Do you have to restart? I hate having to look after NPCs. Even in RE4 which was easier since you could dump Ashely in a bin, when she was around it really peed me off.

Are you serious? IF it does come out Capcom will put 10 people on the game with no budget and phone it home like Dead Rising Chop Till You Drop.  Capcom really do like to port though, RE4 Wii sales alone match Lost Planet and Dead Rising sales though. Still, wont happen I bet.

This is something that annoying gits like me keep repeating and that gamers hate to hear. Wii econmics, if they had been acknowledged and used to publishers advantages long ago........ well you wouldn't have seen EA and THQ losing hundreds of millions. Boom Blox can sell 700'000 and be a success, Tomb Raider Underworld can sell 1.8 million and Eidos consider it a failure. Games need to sell more just to break even and only 10% of games make a profit according to a report I read on Gamasutra. You have some really successful developers with high sales but sales are clustered and the rest of the industry is hurting.

FAMITSU REVIEWS

It's cold! Everywhere! Especially in Japan, where they still don't really believe in central heating and prefer to sit around the kotatsu with their cat and play Nintendo DS games all day. (Not really.)

Remarkably, mid-February seems like a pretty good time to be a gamer in Japan, with one high-brand arcade port and two half-decent adventures coming to stores at roughly the same time. Here's what Weekly Famitsu magazine thought about them:

- Another Code: R (7/7/7/7, 28 points): The Wii-only sequel to Trace Memory has made the leap from 2D to 3D graphics, which "results in a nice, standard upgrade to the graphics, but also slows the pace of gameplay down to a leisurely walk." Reviewers lauded the "beautiful landscapes and expressive characters," but noted that this was less old-school adventure and more like the pretty, story-driven games we've seen out of Europe in recent years. "The focus is less on puzzle solving and more about the father-daughter connection, giving it the feel of a young-adult novel," one wrote. "Compared to the volume of the story, the amount of puzzle-solving you're asked to do is a little light."

- Mario & Luigi 3 (9/9/8/9, 35 points): This is the highest-scoring game of the month (outscoring both SFIV and Skate 2), and while there are "no dramatic changes," Famitsu's reviewers could find very little to complain about. "The fun action and lovely pixel art of the previous game has been further polished, creating a game filled with the sort of fun only the DS can provide." The M&L-touring-Bowser's-body gimmick is lots of fun, it seems, and while one reviewer "would ask for a little more length," this is still "a great game, one that serves as an example of how games should be made."

- Street Fighter IV (9/8/8/9, 34 points): The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of SFIV got the same rating, being essentially identical to each other. "The essence of SFII has been perfectly retained," wrote one reviewer. "It's not just nostalgia here either; there is a whole new level of gameplay here, which impresses me." Other writers praised the online system, which offers search based on player level and the ability to wait for a player to finish a match before challenging him (as if you were waiting for your turn in the arcade -- hey, remember that?). The learning curve for beginners may be a little steep, though: "Few games can boast as complete a multiplayer experience; maybe asking for a similarly complete single-player mode would be asking too much."

Little Kings Story, the preview says it looks like a cross between Animal Crossing, Harvest Moon and Pikmin, minus Harvest Moon's ball breaking chores.

Holy shit, did anyone check out the wallpapers I linked????? Happy

OMG, Check out the Deadly Creatures MoCap video. That's the kind of game marketing I like to see. Nyaa

You said it man. It makes me wonder what the 8th generation is going to look like for Sony and MS.  I mean, is this sustainable?  When games cost as much as movies to produce how many games can even the largest of publishers (like EA abd Activision) release each year -- like 4?  7 maybe?  is that what we want?  20-30 new games a year?  Maybe...

For whatever reason, and this will age me tremendously, but the vibe I get from Wii is like the Commodore 64.  A platform that is accessible to anyone, consumer and developer alike.  Where there a lot of games? Yes.  But the cream rose to the top and the discerning consumer could avoid the crap.

And when they released the Amiga, a much more powerful and expensive machine, the  consumer base (beside the well-healed) basically said, "nah, I'm good with my C-64 thanks).

I got nothing against big games. I love high production values. I know it's probably weird to even think about as a gamer, shouldn't I be looking forward to the biggest and best, prettiest looking games? I can't help it, even when I read things like selling consoles at a loss, investing and losing billions on hardware. This kind of subsidised approach to gaming. Reading stuff like DS and Wii profits being investing in next-gen projects. It just makes the logic centre of my brain implode. If these games aren't self sustainable, then are they vanity projects? And what happens when one flops? You had all these analyst warnings at the beginning of this generation about the high cost of next gen development, about the small companies not surviving or being bought.

A couple of years later, coupled with the world economic slowdown this is now painfully apparent that publishers are hurting badly. Shedding jobs like ticks. Some of my favourite companies, Free Radical, Factor 5, even commercial giants like EA, Sony, and MS. And if you look at US or world sales data, gaming is more popular than ever, more sales than ever. But like Jesse Divinch of NPD said, the tides are rising but not for all boats. Sales are clustered so when EA make a good game like Mirror's Edge and people rent rather than buy it over Fallout 3 or Call of Duty. All that money they spent doesn't give them enough money back to either make a profit or cover costs.

So in the short term we have games with better production values and the price we pay is more and more developers shedding jobs, cutting projects or going bust. That's why the old adage of not putting all your eggs in one basket holds true. If Wii games are a third, even a fourth of the cost of making a PS3/360 game then simple economics means that you should have seen more, better quality projects on that fact alone - then coupled with the record breaking (better than PS2) success of the system. In 2008 between Spring and December the number of 3rd party million selling games on Wii jumped by 12 to 30 titles.

He added that as of the end of March 2008, there were only 12 third-party Wii titles with sales totaling over 1 million units. But as of December 2008, that number had jumped to 30 titles, he said.

On DS, there were 28 third-party DS games that exceeded 1 million units at the end of March 2008. That number climbed to 49 at the end of December.

http://www.edge-online.com/news/iwata-third-parties-finding-wii-ds-success

This is why you should be seeing better support, there is just no excuse these days for shovelling out nothing but crap.

Why the hell is Hudson, a Japanese company making a WiiWare Online Multiplayer FPS?

Looks like a DS game.

It looks like Moon.

For real...tell me that doesn't look like Jackson?! Has to be intentional.

That pic is legendary as far as I'm concerned.

Played the RE5 demo.

I rate the demo an 8.3

Your impressions vocalise most of my fears about this game. Let me ask you, when Sheba died, does your game end? Do you have to restart? I hate having to look after NPCs. Even in RE4 which was easier since you could dump Ashely in a bin, when she was around it really peed me off.

Yup.....game over unless you can run over and save her fast enough, but when she gets her head chopped off that's hard to do. Its going to annoy me I know already.

I'm honestly still not sure if I'll even get this right away.....I may be more interested in Tenchu at this point, though I don't really need nor am I dying for any new releases right now.

Check the RE5 thread, I dumped a preview there, would like your feedback.

OMG, Check out the Deadly Creatures MoCap video. That's the kind of game marketing I like to see. Nyaa

ehh ... will not be checking any deadly creatures videos and please guys be a little considerate with the screen shots from this game.  that last set of snake pics really freaked me out big time.

this game is the worst idea ever.  could i sue the developers for trauma?
